  1. For anyone else looking, I am also available for rider assistance/driving. Please DM me for contact details to discuss your needs 🙂
  2. Does lying on the beach for the last 5 days contribute towards heat adaptation? Asking for a friend🤡
  3. Witfontein forest in George is epic. https://www.trailforks.com/route/cannondale-witfontein-enduro-2024/ there is also Sky trails in Plett, but not sure what they’re like now, wasn’t amazing a few years ago.
  4. Think I saw a Stages XT crank on the bargain bin table at CycleLab N1 city today… maybe call them and check if you’d like to stick with an identical replacement.
  5. Agreed. How do they access banking apps without the fingerprint/password (and in many cases 2-factor authentication) so QUICKLY?

    2025 WC XCC/XCO

I was keen to do all the events in the series, but to be honest this one has me reconsidering it. I get that they are testing the water, but my feedback is that this is very unappealing.

    2025 WC XCC/XCO

Well aware of that, but come on... XCC should be more of a short XCO course and thats not what I'm seeing.

    2025 WC XCC/XCO

First race this weekend... Is it just me that's quite uninspired by the route for the XCC race? Looks like you could do it on a gravel bike... At a venue with so many trail options, surely they could have made a course with more than 5 corners, some switchbacks and a tiny bit more technical? New to this format, but expected more, so anyone out there that can give me more perspective?
  11. Your least expensive option is the Garmin Varia paired to mobile phone using the Varia mobile app. You can keep the phone in his pocket and hear the tones (and possibly feel the phone vibrating, but I wouldn’t rely on that) to alert of an approaching vehicle. The Varia is a device well worth the investment, I can’t ride without it now, makes riding more enjoyable and safer!
  12. As per the Pursuit website: The peer-to-peer performance index is based only on actual, verified event results data*. It is calculated using two parameters: the Total Index and the Event Index. The Total Index is the average of the top three event indexes per discipline, while the Event Index is calculated based on your final position in the event, the strength of the athletes in the event, the event rating, and the event index over three years.
  13. I'm not sure that loyalty counts, I've done most of the Trailseekers in the WC. I started the last one in Wellington in A batch and although I had a particularly bad race that day, I still finished in a time that put me in the top 10 of B batch with some A batchers behind... so don't understand how I suddenly got relegated backwards 3 batches (Wellington didn't have an elite batch like Banhoek did). Not complaining, it wasn't too bad having to pass people, but in the past the seeding system has been on point and one of the things that makes these races so great by not having traffic on the singletrack. One thing that could do better is have separate queues for the marathon and half marathon at registration... it was chaos.
  14. Was a great event. Something seemed off with the seeding though, my assumption is that the seeding index weights Wines2Whales quite heavily (longer event?) as I passed a lot of people starting in C batch quite early on that I can't imagine them ever being faster than me.

  16. The website really isn't great as a source for the route/maps. I did it in 2023 and these are the daily gpx routes that I mapped: Day 1: https://www.strava.com/routes/3043555412725683360 Day 2: https://www.strava.com/routes/3043557438576373720 Day 3: https://www.strava.com/routes/3043558609058231686 Day 4: https://www.strava.com/routes/3043559643554925728 Day 5: https://www.strava.com/routes/3043560784259747206 Day 6: https://www.strava.com/activities/9203381681 (lost the route, you can save it from this activity though)
  17. Finished my first Festive 500 this year, was a fun challenge. This is how it went… 24th: 0km 25th: 21km Indoor trainer w/ Ramp test 26th: 0km 27th: 44km Gravel bike 28th: 100km Road bike… slow ride with my gf, some wine tasting in the middle and absolutely baked by the sun! 29th: 201km Gravel bike… epic day out on the bike with a mate on an awesome circular route! 30th: 39km e-bike… 50km/h headwinds, not particularly fun! 31st: 100km Road bike… pesky headwind in the last 40km (average speed for the ride dropped from over 30km/h to 26km/h by the end) Some highlights:
  18. Avoid the area... that's going to stop those guys from being criminals? No they will just move somewhere else and create a new "hotspot"🙄🤬
  19. They will tell you that they are doing something about it... like stationing law enforcement officers on the bridge (there were two standing there yesterday morning when I drove over the bridge at about 8:30am).... but you know they can't do anything at shift change times or outside of business hours 🤷‍♂️ It's a bit of window dressing but absolutely nothing strategic or permanent about finding a solution to a serious problem. The criminals just sit and watch and wait for their time to carry on as usual. It's an insult really😤
  20. Here is an option. Banhoek_.gpx
  21. You say someone was stabbed and killed last week.... and we still aren't yet at the point of having had enough?😭 We have had enough! P.S. The shift change excuse makes my blood boil!
  22. What if one is a member of the Royal Cape (Cycling) Yacht Club?🤔
  23. At what point do we resort to the taxi's tactics of blocking the N1 to get the attention of the authorities? Law enforcement resources are too busy handing out fines to people with dogs off leash on the Sea Point promenade🙄 This is ridiculous, can only imagine how commuters who have no alternative must feel.
  24. https://www.treadmtb.co.za/a-new-strategy-to-help-combat-bike-theft/ the TLDR: How Cyclists and Bike Shops Can Get Involved Cyclists can join the fight against bike theft by registering their bikes with 529 Garage. The process is quick, free, and simple. All you need is your bike’s serial number, usually located on the underside of the frame. By registering, you are not only protecting your own bike but also contributing to a global network working to deter theft and recover stolen bikes. Bike shops play a crucial role in this mission by enabling the 529 Garage feature in Hubtiger’s software. When activated, bike serial numbers entered during servicing are automatically checked against Project 529’s database, making it easier to reunite stolen bikes with their rightful owners. Through the combined efforts of cyclists, bike shops, and the partnership between 529 Garage and Hubtiger, the fight against bike theft is gaining momentum, helping to recover stolen bikes and build safer, stronger communities one registration at a time.
  25. They seem to answer emails only once a week and a different person each time. I've just sent my device in, they said 10 working days from when they receive it for the assessment. The experience so far doesn't have me oozing optimism🤞
