  1. Well that is good to hear I'm travelling with some KZN folk so perhaps you have inadvertently passed some info on along the way. Either way, I'm looking forward to the lifts up the hills. Sure beats shuttling.
  2. Thanks a lot for the info. I will check it out. We're staying at Les Voroches... (worked out pretty cheap)
  3. It would definitely have been cool. When are you guys going? We pretty much sorted. Got cheap accommodation close to the lift(s) apparently and transfers etc are sorted.
  4. Wooo Hooo! I'll be there end of August. Carn't hardly wait

  6. He's a hack. Lands short on all the jumps, botches the final whoop section & rolls the final double. LAME!

  8. About R200 per hanger.
  9. There are no hills big enough
  10. Pic #2 is Mike Reid (I think)
  11. I'm pretty sure you are spot on.
  12. Unfortunately I had to miss the race due to a certain someones poor planning of his wedding , but I was there riding on Saturday. The track, although dusty, was in awesome condition & very well prepped IMHO. Big up to Marnus and all the guys who put shovel to dirt over the weeks leading up to the event, you guys did an awesome job. It was a shame that there was such a relatively low number of racers, but all the feedback from the racers I interacted with had positive things to say about the track and about the event, so hopefully we see bigger numbers in future events. I for one hope to take part... Kath got Kelvin's boost over '*** n drop' on camera so I'll try get that posted in the next day or two. It was MASSIVE Hayden did his collar bone, not sure what happened to Des (I hope nothing serious) & Dustin is going under the knife today to sort out the elbow. Speedy recovery to all & a big thanks to the medics who looked after the fallen. Congrats to Tiaan who destroyed on the day, winning by 4 or 5secs so I gather! It seems the KZN boys in general dominated.
  13. No worries. Very cool film BTW. I'm coming after you when I get fired from work for abusing the bandwidth...

  16. Looks like it's going to be good!
  17. 139 is DH track in PTA. 1. Take the 139 exit off the N1 (North) and turn left onto Garsfontein Road. 2. Take first left at lights onto Matroosberg Rd and you'll go over a couple speed hums and traffic cirlces 3. Left onto Graskop Rd 4. Right onto Fort Mistake. This becomes Stapelia Rd. 5. Follow Stapilia to where it makes a sharp right and becomes Fuchia St. About 50m up there should be a dirt turn to your left (there is a big table here and a good spot to watch) OR continue up the road (500m) and you'll probably see cars and bikes about. According to Google Earth Co-ords are : 25 48.078' S 28 15.650' E Also check out a group on FB called "Mountainbikers do it downhill" Most of the Gauteng DH info is there.

  19. Awesome vid. Thanks for sharing.
  20. Dangle makes a come back on the page of the beast. Coincidence... I think not
  21. I've transitioned in the other direction to most it would seem. Started riding XC then more AM stuff, then dirt jumping, then a DH rig appeared and now I'm riding a fair amount on Enduro & loving it all. I find the Enduro outings to be a really good work out and definitely limit the arm pump I feel while riding my DH bike. I'm yet to change my bicycles to a moto-style brake setup, but I am keen to try it out. Currently it doesn't phase me too much & I'm yet to be caught out by grabbing a handfull of the wrong brake (touch wood).
  22. Since this would be something very new, I guess the question that should be asked to those who plan on attending is what would you want to get out of it?
  23. Great idea Nige. The only real issue would be potential liability issues should someone bin it properly and feel it was the organizers fault... So you may have to probably should consider an indemnity if you're planning to charge. < GP HI-JACK > I know the GP folk are trying to build a "Village DH bicycle" for people to try out DH. I don't think it's complete yet and I have not heard of any events as yet. My suggestion for the Gauteng folk would be to ride the 139 track in PTA. Most of the obstacles can be rolled or avoided and it can be done on a 'normal' MTB.
  24. I just checked. The First Ascent hydration packs come with Nalgene bladders so you should be able to find spares. Check out http://www.firstascent.co.za/retailers.php?provid=7&catid= for all the Gauteng retailers. Otherwise contact First Ascent direct and ask them.
  25. The NorthFace packs make/made use of the Nalgene hydration systems. I hated mine since all 3 I had leaked at the top cap/bladder interface. Drifters should have spares for sure. Also having looked (briefly) at the First Ascent system, their bite valve looks very much the same so perhaps check that out too.
