  1. Howsit hubbers, Instead of creating a new thread I'll just carry on this one.

I have a roadbike I'd like to sell, can you advise on a good price.

    It's a 2015 merida reacto 5000 ltd edition.

Comes with a power2max pm with 52/36 rotor chain rings.

Rest is the standard ultegra build.

I'm thinking of advertising it for 35k and hoping to not go below 30k.

Will be selling with stock wheels not the ones pictured.

Nice looking ride. There are those that will say, it is only a Merida (snobs).

Get the pics as you would sell the bike. If you are going to change wheels and maybe remove the pedals, then have pics accordingly.

Unfortunately, a bike is only worth as much as the 2nd hand market is willing to pay for it. And it is a stingy market

  2. Ironic much:

I still find it hard to believe that grey imports will be of a different quality to the stuff that the Official distributor brings in. They surely come from the same factory, and if not where would the inferior ones be coming from?

As far as I know it's not fake, but a tyre can be tracked via the serial number. So whoever sells a item without a serial number is just protecting its source

  3. I have had four of these discount / grey import tyres break now. I initially bought two and needed to replace them as both tore within a few rides. When the third one broke, I contacted the distributor to find out what was going on with the tyres as I had been using the barzo for two years without incident and now all of a sudden I had torn three in two months... The distributor has been very helpful, but cant do much as they did not bring these grey import tyres in and referred me to the shop I got them from.

The fourth one tore in Tokai on Saturday.... I have no idea where these tyres have been sourced from but there is a serious quality issue with them.

Interestingly, none of the tyres had been ground on the inside, they just had no serial number at all..

The genuine ones I have now purchased have a clear serial number in them.

Just check, sometimes they grind it off and then use a permanent marker to cover it again

  4. So, as far as I know, the tyres with scraped serial numbers are the real thing, but brought in via unofficial channels.

Got the following quote from someone in the know about 2 years ago:

"Vittoria tyres are made with a protective layer on the inside, so when you scrape the serial number, you damage that layer and sealant can then react in a negative way with the tyre causing it to come of the rim while riding."

  5. I am not 100% convinced on this after that being my initial thought.

I think the rest of the field have genuinely upped their game and now the playing field is different. Also, Chris hasn't raced much at all this year and when he has he hasn't been as spectacular as usual in his run ups to the Tour and his team as a whole also have not been what they were in past.

He faded in the last part of the TT, the 1st segment he was pretty good all things being equal. However I really do believe that the competition has now caught up and that is a good thing.

I don't see him winning the Tour this year, Podium sure, but unless there is a huge turnaround soon or others around him having really bad days he is in for 1 hell of a fight.

Makes sense, then ofcourse, Piti will probably take it this year. Spanish beef or Hungarian engineering.....

  6. Hi all,

Please can you help me. I have replaced almost everything that can make a cracking noise like this but still it won't go away. Does someone maybe know the possible reasons for this sound in my video above.

I replaced the following already -

    Sprocket

    Rear Derailer

    Chain

    BB

You would really make my year if you can give me the solution because I don't know anymore.

    Kind regards

    Jaco

Had the same problem a year ago, only when standing to pedal

    Have you checked your knees?

  7. I wonder what the markup is on the total production cost of the Scalpel frame and LBS consumer price - I would guess somewhere between 3000 - 5000%?

I know LBS works on around 30-40% to get their RRP, before negotiations start. Then brands like Giant & Spez wholesaler (agent) has around the same markup to get to the wholesale price. Not sure what happens before that

  8. I won't get you started!

But I was thinking now, for next year, maybe I can try to do a short rider profile every week on the hub. From juniors, u23 to elites.

Mmm and perhaps do a short interview with the riders as well. Or do a short profile and tell the profiled rider to come do an hour q&a on the hub where the hubbers can ask questions!

Sounds like a cool idea. Will be good way for riders to promote themselves and their sponsors

  9. Good point ofaniy. But I think you answer your own observation. Most people cycle for the "lifestyle". Meaning it's just for their fun and health. Which is no problem.

I hope the boys do well. There are always amazing crowds at that tour!

True, which is also the a reason the sport suffers financially. Was the announcement of the new Bok team... Well I am sure everyone would have had a opinion and guess what, 90% of those opinions probably don't even play rugby anymore
