  1. obviously someone took notice, cause on last night highlights on the TTT, there was no commentory, just silence. Just an aside but the couple times i have watched the coverage on RAI, how awfully bad is italian regualr TV, corny corny game shows and suitably ugly preseners. Italy is th land of style, elegance and beauty but their TV is piss poor
  2. not good news at all. Thoughts with the family. I thought riding at suikerbosrand was the only safe place to ride road....not any more I guess
  3. also doing my 1st. Had an ok base but have now stepped it up. Ride wed/frid 1 1/2 hours usually off road or mountain bike on road. Tues/thurs either ride or do a boxing class. We did a hectic 2 day training ride in dullstroom on the weekend. Sat was 120km (7 1/2 hours), mud and crazy hills. Sun only 80km but included a 12km road climb. Will try to get in both a sat and sun ride of atleast 3 hours. more than that is tuff time and family wise. my legs are still tired but the training will hopefully pay off.
  4. 110km sat off road in mud an rain and 2000m of climbing 80km sunday mainly off road but did include a 12km road climb up the highest paved road in the country. did an hour this morning on the road and the legs were sore !!!. ...hope it helps for sani
  5. bought vanilla recovery from dischem yest. They had quite a bit of stock but few flavour options. was listed for R399 but when nit was rung up paid R360. happy to buy from you in future !! (price dependent)
  6. rudi rydon. They may not look as cool as say the jawbones but they work well and are light. Only gripe is that they fog up so quickly. I have a pair of oakley sunglasses and have replaced the lenses twice due to pealing. crap lenses great marketing
  7. think brown is now the new black. its going to be everywhere soon with matching shoes

    Dogs

I generally slow down expecting the dog to have a nip at my ankles. I like dogs, am usaully in a good mood on my bike and dont let it worry me. Dogs in the park are like most bad car drivers, if you anticipate them going for you/turning infront of you, you can usually avoid an accident.
  10. Dischem never seems to have stock of the cytomoax recovery drink. Their staff has almost no knowledge of what a suitable alternative would be. I have tried wasp in the past which was quite nice but I always felt better taking the cytomax after a hard ride or workout. I ended up buying the biogen recovery drink (strawberry). I has a bitter after taste and left me feeling a little "under nourished". Its mostly a matter of personal taste but I waswondering what are the better drinks on the market. The biogen does have quite a high protein content 20g per serving but what are the key ingredients to look for when buying a recovery drink. Thanks
  11. I must have go lucky as purchased a top from CRC recently and they marked the parcel as bike parts and paid no duty just vat.
  12. CWC are not greedy or needing to be closed down. They are simply going about their business of trying to make money and attract clients. Its quite simple that people look for value and service when shopping and if CWC offer this then good on them. Trying to make a buck by being cheaper and better than everyone else is simply good business and in this day and age of dog eat dog its survival.
  13. My 1st MTB race and really enjoyed myself. There was enough of everything to keep things interesting and I will be back next year. MTB races are way tougher than road !!!!!!!
  14. Like him or not, La certainly does bring more colour and excitement to the tour and I do enjoy seeing someone my age take on the youngsters. He is an amazing rider and total quality and looks to be in unbelievable condition. He will however not win the tour. The mountains is where it counts and its here that contador, schleck, sastre will show their class. contador is the best time trialist of the contenders. AC did lose face in the split yesterday and it was brilliant to watch the brake get away and have LA in it. its a great tour so far and I think its only going to get better !!!!!!
  15. shop service levels all reflect back to the store owner. If they firstly employ the right people who have some bike knowledge and then are the type of people who can actually sell its half way there. having been to so many bike stores its no wonder many of them are battling to stay in business. Good service goes such a long way and can even allow higher pricing than say importing goods from CRC. prob is owners are not around all the time and staff who usually dont give a sh*t either way simply destroy the businss.
  16. there are deals all over the show. U just have to be lucky and call everyone. I think solomons will be doing a close out soon on trek 2008 models.
  17. Just got myself an Ex8. Been pondering a purchase for ages and was going to go HT and then found a just cant say no deal on the dual. Absolute beauty of a bike and looking forward to a proper ride on it tomorrow morn. Took it out Thurs morn for just a bit buts its crap in the dark and I still have to work out this suspension thing. Nothing nicer than a great ride that also looks so damn nice. Broke the bank and now have to find some ammo for the curtais my wife was looking forward to getting. Just work harder now !!!
  18. I also put on weight taking the USN protein drink. My eating habits did not change either and I ws training fairly hard. I thought the drink would help me recover quicker and perhaps help build some muscle. either way the muscles did not grow and my jeans got tighter. Stopped the drinks, trained as normal and back to normal weight. Fortunatley I am a skinny guy so weight is not an issue for me. I just thought the protein shake would help with recovery after training and make me healthier, perhaps stronger from muscle growth. When it comes to nutrition its a minefiled out there and i guess commom sense and moderation work best.
  19. I was amazed at how powerful tintin was at FL, especially considering he is no youngster, now its possible to understand how. He is part of the old school and I now have no doubt that 99.9% of cyclists in both the pro and semi pro or even amatuer ranks DOPE. There is a new bread of up and coming younger riders who just may be clean but who actually knows. Guilty until proven inncent I say !!!! colinw2009-04-29 01:01:06
  20. Never miss my monthly copy of cycle sport/pro cycling. Proper journalism written by people who have a passion for the sport. Bicycling is just a waiste of trees.
  21. I'm going to try all the alternatives, waiting list, enter in August. was speaking to someone today and its sounds like a brilliant ride
  22. Thanks nancy for the heads up on the "pre-entry waiting list". Got ref 626 which makes me think there are already 600 teams on the waiting list already. ........WOW !!!!!
  23. Looks like an incredible event and would love to ride next year. I see that entries are limited and by internet only. I assume its on a 1st come 1st serve/pay basis and thats assuming there are entries still avail once 2009 particpants have had 1st right of refusal. In reality how likely are my chances of getting an entry by simply filling in the online entry and paying the money. A friend of a friend knows some land owners that may have pref entries but that seems like a story. Any good ideas or ways in ()
  24. deciding on which hardtail to purchase abd have narrowed it down to the following options and would love some unbiased opinions on the better bike. (shops often sell the brands that have better margins and ignore the buyers requirements) merida hfs1000 gt zaskar expert trek 8000 mongoose meteore elite tks
  25. rasmu looks shocking. dont care that it helps him climb faster.
