  1. Compact Cranks have a 50/34t chain ring configuration whilst Regular Cranks have a 53/39t or 53/42t chain ring configuration.
  2. I ordered some YBN ones from Kiwi today. Just wanted to know if there are any adverse reasons not to ride with a 9sp link until I get the 10sp links.
  3. The narrower 10sp chain just works better. I can use the whole cassette on either the front rings without it rubbing against the derailleur. I had an XT FD on there that I used prior to the XX FD but the XX FD has a smaller cage and fits closer to the chain rings. The gap was a bit big with the XT FD and the seat stays got in the way if I lowered the FD to where it should be.
  4. Don't know why SRAM did this but the link that comes with a SRAM 10sp chain is called a PowerLock and is not reusable. I have converted my Mountain Bike to 2x9 with XX Front Derailleur, XX Crank and a 10sp Chain. Still using my X.9 Rear Derailleur. I used a 9sp PowerLink to join the chain after having to break the PowerLock link. It runs smoothly and shifts nicely cause of the 9sp Rear Derailleur. So I was wondering if there is any reason not to use it like that? Obviously the link doesn't fit as snug as it would on a 9sp chain but other than that, is there any other reason that this is not advised?
  5. Have a look at the KCNC ones as well. They are a bit more expensive than then Aerozine but will last longer.
  6. I used one on my mtb and I must say it still runs nicely. What is nice about them is that they are serviceable. So you don't have to replace the cups, just the bearings. I had to clean it regularly though as it seems to collect a lot of dirt and grime from offroad riding. But on a road bike it should be super. For the price it would be difficult to beat.
  7. But is the drive side not used as a seal?
  8. I attempted to install a XX Crank on my On-One Scandal last night but I am not sure how many spacers to put on the BB. The BB shell is 68mm and according to the installation instructions I should put a 2.5mm spacer on either side of the BB shell. The problem is that the Drive Side spindle doesn't fit tight against the bearing race. If I put another spacer it works fine but is the correct? Plus, I cannot seem to eliminate the play of the crank. Any suggestions?
  9. I must agree, CWCycles's service is awesome, ordered yesterday at 11:00, delivered this morning at 8:30. Brilliant!!!!
  10. Boeshield
  11. How many of these will actually be available locally?
  12. I am in Centurion so will chat to the guys at my LBS to see if they don't have an old FD there. Will give Wayne a shout for further advice. Thanks a lot for the info, it's much appreciated
  13. The Scandal Slot Dropout Frame has a built in hanger. But I like the idea of the bolt on tugs. If you use these without the hanger then it would be perfect. Only problem is when you have to change a tire then it's a mission. Unless I am missing something?
  14. Thanks a lot for the advice. I will see if I can get either one of the FD's mentioned above and give it a try. I am going to install an XX crank on it in the next couple of weeks so was looking at getting a road FD (Shimano 105 5700 or SRAM Force). Will that also work? I run Race King 2.2 on the back. Man that is a high volume tire.
  15. I use a low clamp Shimano XT FD M770. Would the high clamp enable me to remove the tugs completely? That was why I opted for the low clamp but to no avail.
  16. I don't know if the MKS Tugs can be found locally but www.wiggle.co.uk stock them. There must be better solutions out there. No engineers on this forum with some ideas?
  17. Yip, I have it on both sides but they don't seem to keep the wheel aligned. Any body used MKS Tugs on their Scandals?
  18. I have an On-One Scandal 29er Slot Drop Out frame. I run it geared I have to use chain tugs as the clearance between the rear tire and the front derailleur is not enough. The problem is that the wheel doesn't stay aligned in the center. Especially after harsh braking the alignment is out and the rotor rubs against the pads. Has anybody had the same problem and how did you solve it? I know you get bolt on tugs but not sure how that will work when you have to remove the wheel to change a flat.
  19. Very very nice
  20. Very nice. Is it 2x9?
  21. Shan Wilson tweeted Kona King Kahuna 260grams lighter than the GF superfly carbon frame!!! Mmmmmm makes u think!!!
  22. The Big Kahuna tech features according to the website reads * Ultimate hardtail cross-country 29-inch wheel mountain bike * Kona Race Light Scandium Butted frame with hydroformed tubing * Zero Stack 1.5 Tapered Headtube * RockShox Recon Solo Air 100mm travel fork * SRAM X9/X7 9-speed drive train * Avid Elixir 5 hydraulic disc brakes * Easton XC 29er wheelset But I see the detailed specs says Aluminum 7005. Probably copied and pasted from the 2010 King Kahuna Tech Features
  23. So the 2011 Big Kahuna has the Scandium frame now and replaces the 2010 King Kahuna, Correct? Mampara: The 2011 Kahuna has an Aluminum frame
  24. Any idea what a big kahuna 29er frame would go for? Apparently it is extremely light. http://www.konaworld.com/bike.cfm?content=big_kahuna
  25. It's cheap and therefore the durability is not great. That is my experience. I installed one 6 months ago and ride regularly but I am replacing it this weekend with a KCNC BB as the bearings are starting to grind. The salesman from Bester Cycles where I bought the Aerozine said that they can be serviced though so you only need to replace the bearings but still keep the cups and sleeve. Will be cheaper than buying a new one. I am going to send mine to be serviced and see how that works out.
