  1. Can't really make out what brand of bike this is Looks awesome!
  2. Whoops, my bad.
  3. Giant recalls 2011 Anthem 29ers
  4. Start a poll. Not every member of the hub wants to post an update
  5. Just to add to the above, don't just take a 29er HT for a spin around the block once. You need to ride it at least a couple of times to have a true comparison. It does take some getting use to.
  6. 1.87m MTB 170mm Road 172.5mm
  7. From Twenty Nine Inches World Exclusive: On One Introduces New 29er Range; Report 1 Now the question for Kiwi, When and How Much?
  8. There is another post with more info 360 degree life
  9. The Aliante Gamma is an awesome saddle. It measures to 143mm in width and I am getting one to fit on my road bike as well, it's that comfortable. I had a Gobi for a month or so but it was just too narrow and created an awful amount of hurt after an hour or so. It is only 130mm wide.
  10. Read somewhere that SRAM will be introducing a 2x10 gripshift on the request of Julian Absolom. He prefers them to triggers. So they will probably debut in the 2011 XC World Cup Season and be available for mere mortals end 2011 or early 2012. But it's all just rumors currently.
  11. It is not normal so you need to either add a spacer or torque the crank arm a bit more. When I installed my rival crankset, I had to really torque it. I didn't need spacers but I did remove, re-grease and reinstalled a couple of times before there was no play on the crank.
  12. Would be good for her to go and ride one. They do handle a bit differently than the 26er and one has to get used to it. The advantages of the 29er will still remain as majority of the benefits are actually in the wheels. The Trek Team Riders, Willow Koerber and Heather Irminger, swear by their 29ers and they are tiny ladies. You might even consider an 29er HT for her since she is small and the larger tires at a lower pressure would give adequate "suspension".
  13. Sounds like the limit screw needs to be loosened a bit. Park Tool - REAR DERAILLEUR ADJUSTMENTS
  14. Then you should have no problem getting it replaced under warranty.
  15. Firstly, Shimano should honor the warranty doesn't matter where it was purchased from? I am sure the LBS does not cover the expenses of warranty replacements. As long as you have a proof of purchase it should be valid. The only question is how to handle it with Shimano. Going through your LBS is easier as they know the reps but it should not be a closed door altogether. I would be willing to pay the LBS for handling the claim. It's like a service fee. Secondly, if LBS wasn't so ridiculously expensive on certain things and the markup wasn't 80% then more people would purchase locally. It's the chicken and egg scenario, but why should the consumers spend more to pay less in future? Doesn't make sense. LBS should sell for less and sell more volume. My opinion.
  16. I was thinking that the action ratio is 1:1 for both 10sp and 9sp derailleurs and shifters, therefore it should work.
  17. My 9sp derailleur needs to be replaced sometime and I was wondering if I can buy a new SRAM X.0 10sp Derailleur and use it with my 9sp shifters and cassette? I am in the process of converting to 10sp but I was hoping to doing it in phases. My logic tells me that the derailleur will only move as far as what the shifters are able to pull the cable. And that with the limit screws I will be able to ensure that it doesn't shift to far. Is this logical?
  18. Only hefty import duty on clothing and complete bicycles. For parts you can work on about 15.5% for vat and import duties.
  19. Had the same issue on my 29er XT wheels. The freehub was faulty which caused the bearings to seize. This was after about 750km's of riding though. New freehub was fitted and it currently running smoothly. If you still have your receipt from CRC you can claim from Shimano. I didn't want to go through the hassle so just put on a new freehub.
  20. Since I bought my wife a WSD mountain bike to replace her mens bike, she has been enjoying riding a lot more. She is short and the shorter top tube of the frame givers her a better position on the bike and hence the handling is much better, which boosts confidence. Marketing myth of not, it worked for her.
  21. I think we should all go back to riding steel fixies!
  22. Question is, if Regular and Compact are the same price which do you buy? Me thinks, Compact
  23. In theory, yes.
  24. You can use Hope but need to buy GXP adapters for the cups. Hope Bottom Bracket Truvativ GXP Converter From 91.38 ZAR
  25. It's the same as barends on riser bars. If it works for you, ride it no matter what the others say. No point in mashing the pedals to get to the top of climb in your 39t blade when you can spin it out in a 34t blade.
