Not liking the downhill start. It is exactly the opposite of what I think is a safe start. I will be off the back hoping to get back later. This was always a "target" race for me to get my seeding sorted. I now think it will be a solid training ride. Safety first. AL start.
  2. Thx. I was honestly surprised but it clearly is available.
  3. What a great result for a great person!
  4. Edit. Content removed. Case is closed already....
  5. The pharmacist may get some professional issues. Dirty hands....
  6. A strange world we live in. Now go ride hard Daryl...
  7. Please Tumbles We don't all have access to The Star. A few crumbs please....
  8. WARNING I used to carry daily. For 7 years. Not on the bike but everywhere else. I stopped because I realised I was feeling a bit too brave and had a bit of a Clark Kent "I will protect you" attitude. I have been in situations where shots have been fired - maybe it was because I eventually hoped for stuff to happen. It is the type of kuk I am trying to get away from when cycling. Now we are debating this already. These animals are really getting to me now. Rant over.
  9. Not many people have won "Noot vir Noot" and the world championship.... BRAVO!!!!
  10. Speechless
  11. Sad story. Didn't Bruce have a similar personal tragedy? Sadly we are defenceless against lawlessness. We will always lose against cars. Patience is not very prevalent in Gauteng. One should take reality in consideration.
  12. I have always felt uncomfortable with this. If you are sitting in the car behind you don't know when you can pass because you are too far back. I don't have an answer but I think the OP has some standing on this topic due to the fact that he actually commutes. I do road and MTB and have cars and a motorbike - common sense is the best one can do for random situations but this feels like playing with the lions' balls. I have stopped doing club rides for this very reason. Not saying it is wrong. It just FEELS wrong.

    Jan Dagga RIP

Possibly more of a true cyclist than many of us. RIP.

Now THAT is right next to the artery (Femoral). Could have been VERY nasty...

Nice answer. Even for a Dr there is massive medico-legal implications. Morally I agree though.

Purely for purposes of discussion (not directly referring to this incident) : A cyclist prepares for a race that is important to him. He travels a long way to participate and in the process spending a lot of money. A fellow cyclist that is not racing falls. To what extend must one get involved (both morally and in reality)?

As I tried to explain - he might not have seen the kid falling behind him and he was definitely concentrating on what was ahead. I like to believe that most MTB'ers are good people.

It happened halfway into the first lap (and only lap for the short distance). They started about 45min before us (long distance). It was on a slightly tricky downhill that was marked as "DANGEROUS". It is very slippery with loose gravel and when you lock up you slide with no control. I fell there last year- spectacular OTB. This year there were guys touching shoulders just ahead of me. Merely impossible to get control when you start sliding. I was halfway down A thus it was the front runners in A or another short distance rider that they refer to . These injuries heal very well - hope to see him back soon. On a side note - blocking the track with bystanders and bikes on a nearly blind downhill can lead to major problems too. I guess the group was inexperienced in the racing scene and many things may have been a surprise.

D2D takes me 3 min longer but it is earlier after winter. The route had changed now on both. I think D2D is easier and 94.7 is harder than before.

  21. Behind the knee is to vague. More to the inside /outside /middle?
  22. Same day as D2D. Pity. I like to do both.
  23. One could have it delivered to a mate in the UK that will be coming for a visit soon. If he was to bring it in for his own use (being a cyclist and all...) no duties will be payable.
  24. I have several Atera products incuding those. I have a set permanently installed on my trailer. 4years no issues. I think the importer has decided to pack it in though.
