  1. A friend of mine rides Pro. They have already included it in their planning. I think it will happen.
  2. Problem is I cannot find accomodation. Crap. Even have my Panorama partner lined up.
  3. That descent looks like BMC / Evans can roll down there at pace and so catch solo climbers. If there are no crashes it will have to be a long range breakaway. Roland to try again?
  4. If this is the whole story it is really shocking. Cyclelab Fourways was active on the Hub prior to opening - they should also respond to this to give their side.
  5. On D1 you could wish for a 32 on the bits up to the portage. Rest of D1 and the rest will be fine on 34. Thus 34 with a bit of sweating early ( especially if Hans se Kop is back in). Beware taking advise from these bloody mountaingoats - they climb those hills before breakfast.
  6. Jip. My wife sounds keen. I think I am going to do it. Even if I am alone on the road it will mean at least a sweep/ backup vehicle is available. I was looking for a winter goal. Thx man you have me all excited now.
  7. Mini Panorama tour. Also a goal for winter. Will you take the family? I wonder about availability of accomodation at the resort.
  8. Lots of climbing metres. Will be frigging cold. Starting to sound better...
  9. We could be two...
  10. I cannot find the detail again. I was looking at it before but got the impression that it was really only for the top guys. Is that correct?
  11. Man that is bad. Maybe it can actualy help your performance in a strange manner. It will help you to think how lucky you are to be out riding and how much you enjoy doing it. Many people perform better when they feel less pressure and relax. Also it can turn out to be a benefit to rest longer. Just trying to find the silver lining. Sorry if it sounds superficial but it has helped me in the past.
  12. Quintana could be bluffing a bit. Maybe he is really hurting. Either way he and Uran and the mountains will make sure that this is just the start. I have great internal conflict about Evans. I repect that he is realy tough and I like that he is showing the youngsters a thing or two but it is hard to root for him. For my money Quintana needs only one good day on the high mountains and minutes could disapear. Quintana showed what he can do on Mont Ventoux (as did Froome). This is a marathon and not a sprint.
  13. I used 36x18. I was wondering what would work for Babas' since will be my next S/S race. Sounds like 36x18 is good (since I am not Jules).
  14. Earphones are illegal, bad manners and stupid in a race.
  15. Generally true but sadly it is the exception that kills. I you have an unnatural low heartbeat (especially if it is a new occurence) it certainly can cause problems. Look at things like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and several of the heartblocks. Even a sinus bradi rythm can become abnormal. I know of a VERY fit Physician that died a few years ago. After all the postmortem test it was decided he died of a brady dysrithmia. It even led to a lecture at one of the Anaesthetic congresses titled something like: "Can one be too fit?". No I dont want to explain it all, because I cannot remember it all. The message is that is allways is better to check it with a cardiologist and be sure. Generalised opinion and misconceptions do not cater for the exceptions.
  16. I have to say I was a bit frustrated with that fast open downhill start. I sat there spinning like a top and it still felt as if the whole group went by. The sand was OK on the S/S. What would be an ideal 29er ratio for riding Sonela in your opinion?
  17. I think all cyclists get those "religious moments" sometimes. Now I want to go ride..
  18. Thx for asking Wayne. Right now I am in total awe of all these guys and gals. It was a very flat race and very short (40k). Although I am reasonably fit (raced in the front of AL the previous day) I could never get really comfortable. My best spots were the very loose sandy patches where it worked very well to power through (I will remember this for my next geared race). How you people do this for days on end is beyond me. I am so going to do it more!! I started with a standard 36x18 on a 29er. Will have to try other combo's. RESPECT to all of you S/S warriors!
  19. Morning of the event collection must be supported by all and sundry
  20. Very nice. No harm in adding nosecone. Lots of sense from DJR.
  21. My first S/S race. 1:55 with a flat tyre and rode all of it. Proud of myself. So nice to see many kids riding. A great event. A fantastic weekend out with two good races. Awesome organisation.
  22. This is no1 on my bucketlist. J2C on S/S. Doing my first S/S race tmrw. The journey has begun.
  23. Dont load a normal trailer with too many bikes on the roof. It becomes a mission too open the lid especially if a wind is blowing. Nose cone is nice to access stuff like pumps and shoes at races. I am thinking of building a flatbed type trailer with a nose cone. Some jetski trailer look like that. Maybe a deep base that can take suitcases or duffelbags (flat objects). NB: make sure you cater for QR as well as through axles.
  24. Good news. I think you must still keep heads up. They might think it is a good idea to do it again (to keep their enterprise ticking over). Make it clear that there cannot ever be a bonus again without an arrest. Then their tjommie cant "run away" all the time.
