  1. Hi I have this for that I am considering putting on a bike I am putting together for myself. I cannot get much info on it butm from what I can see it appears to be a steel steerer with carbon/carbon wrap lowers? The question is there appears to be a crack, but I am not sure if it is just the coating on the steel section (not too sure how it is built). It sounds pretty metalic and solid when tapping it on that point and a bit below it? The top part is coated black and feathers out lower down to show the weave. What do you think - safe/find something else.
  2. Would it be better to get a bike with full Campagnolo Mirage 9spd (crank is still tapered square) components or one with tiagra 9spd components? Looking to get a cheap roadbike and just checking on the availability, price, etc of replacing parts. Then can you use a campagnolo 10spd crank with 9spd gearing?
  3. Not looking for anything serious (for now), but it never hurts if it looks good as well It seems like it is a split decision?
  4. Looking at the whole bike
  5. Mmm - ok so will need to shop around. Hey Matt, nope not giving up the gravel - just considering options for getting some training/mileage in.
  6. Hi there Need to find out from the roadbike fundies if this is a worthwhile purchase for 4.5K or if I should look at other options? Campagnola mirage drivetrain. Looking at getting the bike at that price quickdraw2009-09-09 02:53:07
  7. Between the two I would take the pilot. Tora 318 would be better.
  8. Well I moved from a hardtail (although I have owned a Trance and and Extension x-elite) and I am enjoying the feel of the Anthem. I transferred all my other bits (XTR and Fox RLC fork) to an Anthem 3 frame, the only thing I am wondering is how much of a difference the fox shock will make over the current budget spec.
  9. Would it be worth the expense to upgrade my current shock (giant maestro) to a rp2 or rp23?
  10. I'd say measure your chain for wear and if it is time to replace then do so. Once you put the new chain on you can see if your cassette and chain rings need replacing (things will generally start skipping with the new chain if they are worn). If they are fine and you really want to upgrade your current ride start with some lightweight wheels (probably save up a little more and check for bargains on th hub). Then you can look at your fork. If you wanna upgrade your crank then save up for SLX or get older XT - the LX cranks were a little heavy.
  11. +1 for Sidi dominator 5 But I guess you have to try on a few pairs to find which fits you best.
  12. Kinda agree with you there Tarboy, thinking that just replacing the little piece of cable housing running into the rear derailleur with a white one might do it. Oh well, I can live with it like it is till the next itch
  13. From what I remember those models never had replaceable derailleur hangers, so you needed a whole new rear end if you broke it. You would also need to find out the availability of parts for the rear shock. I might turn out to be more trouble than it's worth.
  14. Thanks! It is a standard Anthem 3 frame. Was think ing of a saddle with a touch of white in (hmmm - how to explain it to the wife ) Took it out to Tokai yesterday aft - sweet, although I had the saddle too far back so frame felt a bit long on the singletrack. Sorted it out this eve.
  15. Not quite the latest technology but "I LIKE IT" Not using the seatpost in pic (miscalculated budget - so have to sell) - so has original GIANT issue installed. Will replace seatpost with one in pic or Thomson next month. Rear shock to be replaced in the future (when I can afford to). Trying to figure out how to balance out the white fork (although I kinda like it)? quickdraw2009-08-31 11:04:20
  16. Thanks for the feedback. I guess I am still stuck between sizes. I will try a medium out today. Anybody got a small frame they wanting to sell
  17. I am 1.74 (actually 1.738) , will an Anthem medium be too big for me? I used to have an XTC1 17' (s).
  18. American classics also have a decent sound and sun ringle dirty fleas are pretty noisy. Might be a bit cheaperquickdraw2009-08-21 04:03:42
  19. I have one that you are welcome to use, but I am in Plumstead - so probably out of your way. If you are in the area, just give me a shout. 0828287437
  20. Hi What is the general consensus on these frames good/bad? Also I am 1.75m and currently ride a 17" kona kula with 90mm stem - will a S rm8 fit? From all the gathered data the the top tubes are practically identical?
  21. Super easy if you have access to an air compressor. Lift the edge of the grip slightly and blow some air under there while you simply slide the grip off. The same to put new ones on. Don't roll them off, this tends to stretch them out.
  22. I always have to do a double take on those Scale frames to make sure they are not carbon!! I LUUVVV white frames.
  23. Welcome to the hub, that is a sweet looking ride. It will have a slightly different look after it hits some mud at Tokai You sure it weighs in at 10.2kg?quickdraw2009-08-15 11:08:28
  24. You might have not "burnt"/worn in the pads properly before your ride in the wet. If the pads have not had that hardened outer layer burnt in then they wear out super fast in the wet.
