  1. Hansie 928km

    Benky 853km

Quite a gap...75km, Maybe hansie takes a break at tankwa and kevin can catch up?

I think the race for 3rd will get interesting, the chasing pack is catching up on Brian, maybe he burnt all his matches? Looks as if Hanno and chris broke away from Michael?

  2. Some funny stuff in there - thanks for sharing. Did the red romans steal any hair for a nest?

Heard about a few guys throwing up, do you think that is due to something you ate/drank or just due to fatigue/circumstances?

Haha not that I know of, I was so tired i didn't care!

I think the was a combination of things, too much choc milk in the RV and the heat

  3. My quick (by no means in detail) account of my Munga 2017 experience

Bloem-VDK: Nice ride, hurricane winds for about 30min outside bloem, arrived 00:30, couldn't sleep (too much caffeine), set out 3am

VDK-Britstown: Falling asleep on the bike until sunrise, tricky navigation into petrusville, corrugations (im on a hardtail), had a tailwind from WP3 - WP4, some ice cold homemade choc milk! Really suffered last 50km into britstown, was hot and windy! had a good 2hrs sleep in britstown

Britstown - Loxton: I set out at about 17:00, it was hot and we had a head wind, trail magic at about 50km, coldest water ever from a friendly farmer! Some more falling asleep on the bike and a real struggle to get to WP6(treat of a water point, friendliest people they even made pancakes at 2am!), set out for loxton at 5am, arrived 7am. Had a nice scrambled egg breakfast in Loxton and 3hrs sleep!

Loxton - Sutherland: Started just after 2pm. TOUGH as nuts. it was hot, it was windy, I hurled a few times 30km from loxton, WP7 very nice, slept an hour here, Fraserburg was closed at 9pm, and then some horrible jeep track to WP8, didn't sleep at WP8 and made for Sutherland. arrived in Sutherland just after 6am. broken...finished...klaar.

Sutherland - Ceres: had a nice breakfast, 3hrs sleep, made for ouberg pass just after 2pm again hot and windy. Ouberg pass is much higher than I thought, you reach frightening speeds on your way down. WP9 was good, 1hrs sleep. Luckily had the Tankwa during darkness, WP10 had no sleeping space for me, had 5min on that red capret! Made for Ceres at 00:30, more falling asleep and sleeping in the road next to red romans, had some hallucinations and a coloured oke chased me to steal my bike, no really it happened. Got into Ceres at 6am.

Bain's kloof feels never ending and it started to rain.

I finished the Munga in just under 4days.

I could have been more efficient in the race villages in terms of time. Try to keep momentum even if you're going slow and if you can practice and learn how to fall asleep real quick, it will help.

I will do it again in a heartbeat! I think the entries open 1st of Jan!

  4. Well I won myself an entry 3 weeks ago........waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat has become routine!

I do need some SOLID advice on bib's....please don't tell me the most expensive bib's are the best as my bank acc is starting to crack and I still lack a GPS!

    Thanks!

  5. Oh man....

You know you've overcooked when you cross a puddle like in the pic below.

Normally I'd just bounce over that.

Not in Clarens.... Here I am- looking at it as if about to traverse a raging river in flood.

Taking a long shot here, but weren't you the guy I suffered (walked) with up that last climb through the neck? You have similar kit.

  6.

What saddle did you bend the rails on? I had a cheap Giant saddle which I had the same problem with, then I got a Specialized Phenom Expert, and it has been going strong for over a year now.

Its a WTB, came with the bike, 2012 GT zaskar 9r elite

  7. Hi guys,

So my saddle rails are bent, i saw in another thread that its not advisable to fix them, so its a new saddle for me.

Is there saddles with stronger rails? Maybe the ones with titanium rails? Im 100kg. ????

    Thanks

  8. Yip, you need voice line rental even if you don't want a voice line. Say thanks to telkom.

    So to recap, you need:

    1. Voice line (Telkom, R160)

    2. ADSL Line (Telkom)

    3. ISP (Afrihost, Mweb, Telkom, etc.)

2 & 3 can be bundled and works out a bit cheaper than going separately. I can recommend getting 2&3 either from Telkom or from Afrihost

    Cool, thanks!

  9. If you're not going to stream, get a 2mb uncapped bundle from either Afrihost or Telkom. They're both good.

Works out about R400pm (for line & isp) + R160 for telkom voice line (if you don't already have that)

Ok, let me get this straight...the 2mb uncapped is R200 at telkom, but you need line rental and adsl line rental...do you need both line rentals if you just want it for internet, I'm not going to use a phone on it?

  10. Switching off dstv this december! Not even superrugby is worth 700 a month!

So downloads...I currwntly have the 8ta 10GB promo, but looking to go uncapped. Any suggestions for adsl isp's and linespeeds? I'm just gonna download won't steam at first..

    Thanks

  11. I am not sure how our collective whinging is going to get the Springboks to play better at Ellis Park in 3 weeks time. Imagine getting off the plane from New Zealand and have everyone remind you that you were robbed. As if the players do not know that! I think that the side now needs to concentrate on the Wallabies in two weeks time and we should focus our attention on that rather than p!ss!ing into the wind.

PS: Let Saru deal with the I R B on the refereeing matter and lets get behind the coach and players for the next game.

    Agree..

The home games will see fourie du preez in place of pienaar, and hopefully bismarck is not suspended...we can still come out on top!

    P.S.

Its strange the last 2 big influence games the boks played in nz we were "unlucky"? Bryce never reff'd again...wonder what pwat the frogleg twat will do?......

  12.

    Weakest kiwi team? Explain?

The injury of DC is a blessing in disguise, again AC is the flyhalf after leading the mighty Chiefs to super rugby glory once again!!!

Only weakness in this team, is McCaw(returning from sabbatical) and Cane(plunkman for chiefs). And you can't really call McCaw a weakness. He's very presence in any team lifts the spirit and morale of not only the team, but it seems the entire New Zealand nation.

I was in NZ last year, watched the dunedin test, what an experience, saying the kiwi's are crazy for rugby is an understatement, they worship McCaw, the whole stadium erupted when the oke ran on the field.

what's interesting, all the locals say only one team can beat any AB team any given day and that's the boks. They have a lot of respect for our rugby, they can't understand all the politics in our sport.

I believe HM is short sighted, to win a world cup you need to grow as a team, to grow as a team you need to lose games and learn from your mistakes. I think its a good bok team, would have liked some younsters in the sqaud.

We have a serious problem at no10 and will have for years to come.

    Bryce lawrence was paid.

  13. So yesterday I lost my wallet, what a crap feeling having to cancel all your bank cards, but the biggest issue is the drivers licence! So today sitting at the traffic dep, I got an sms someone found it! Luckily didn't pay yet!

Best part....a cyclist found it in the veld somewhere!

Better part...the trouble they went through to get hold of me! Through the AA card in my wallet (automobile one) and they called me!

    THANK YOU!!
