  1. PPA grades a event afterwards and route markings are one of the issues. If race receives more than 80% (there are 130 points in total, very comprehensive) they can choose the date that they want to have their event next year. If they between 60 and 80% they have to take what they get. Below that they get canned i think. All the rules are very clearly explained to the organisors before the race. I think that great way to keep the standard of races high.
  2. poging tot moord?
  3. skop hom!
  4. Was at a meeting the other day and they quickly explained why it is not out yet. the years seeding is done using the argus as measure of all races. Because the argus was such a ballsup seeding would have been completely haywire and everyone would have had horrible seedings. Eg. Marius in G group, this obviously couldnt work. Sooooooooooo, completely new actuarial calculations had to be made to do the seeding. A new model is almost complete. It also takes into account mtb races and very hilly rides like cobra giving you a better seeding than a fast flat race. From what I heard the model should be finished this week.

  7. Weird Full article: http://www.sportsci.org/jour/0101/cf.htm Researchers from Canada?s McMaster University recently investigated the effects of interval exercise on VO2max (MacDougall et al., 1998). Training was performed on a stationary cycle ergometer for three days each week. The program began with four intervals lasting 30 s, separated by a 4-min rest period. By Week 7 the number of intervals had increased to 10, while the rest intervals were gradually reduced to 2.5 min. VO2max increased by 9%, demonstrating that significant gains in VO2max could be achieved from exercise of a relatively short duration. In the first week of the program, each training session lasted 14 min. By Week 7, the length of each training session had increased to 30 min. A team from Japan?s National Institute of Fitness and Sport found that a high-intensity intermittent training program achieved bigger gains in VO2max than a program of steady cycling (Tabata et al., 1997). Active male subjects were assigned to one of two groups, each training 5 days per week for 6 weeks. One group followed a training program involving 60 min of moderate intensity exercise (70% VO2max), for a total of 5 hours per week. The VO2max in this group improved by an average of 9%. Training sessions of the other group consisted of eight all-out work bouts, each lasting 20 s, with 10 s of rest. This group cycled for a total of only 20 min per week, yet their VO2max improved by 15%, In addition to its effect on VO2max, high-intensity intermittent training can improve athletic performance. Lindsay et al. (1996) reported that 4 weeks of interval training can improve 40-km time trial performance of competitive cyclists. The cyclists replaced approximately 15% of moderate intensity endurance training with high-intensity intermittent training, completing six interval sessions during the course of the study. Each interval session consisted of six to eight 5-min work bouts at 80% of peak power, separated by 60 s of recovery. The authors found significant improvements in 40-km time trial performance (54.4 ? 3.2 vs 56.4 ? 3.6 min) and time to fatigue at 150% of peak power (72.5 ? 7.6 vs 60.5 ? 9.3 s). In a similar study, Stepto et al. (1999) examined the effect of five different types of interval training on performance of a 40-km time trial. The cyclists were assigned to one of five groups. Each group followed a different program, as shown in Table 1.
  8. if your courier it to them and pay them to courier it back it takes about 4 days.

  11. I'm trying to get my girl into cycling and we went for 2 rides allready (but lots of spinning classes). She complains of pain between her shoulder blades. Any suggestions how to solve this? We are the same height but my legs are longer than hers....see rides with my setup with the saddle lowered. Thnx!
  12. Would love to give feedback, but think the post official that stole my package should register on thehub to do it.....I never received my parcell. Saw one of the clerks at the post office with a polar 625x, will have a chat with him!
  13. ok, so ek moet vir n 7h race in welnton 4h15 opstaan? Is n betr oplossing ni om nog 5 tannies v 45 minute aan te stel by registrasie ni? Ek kla ook as ek n 500 gram rare steak bestel en ek kry n 200 gram ovr done steak.
  14. entered the 60 km but had to do the 30 km as the f-up with the registr. Very disappointed because driving to wellington, queing and paying the entry is bit overkill for 1h40 ride. Just such a shame because if the registration, surely the easiest part of the organisation, was dnne properly it would have been such a nice experience.

  20. Hi, was at the spar next to willie on Friday. Guys were loading up some bikes on a trailer and I had a chat to him. Apparently it was the liquidator guy. And the following are the facts. Al the stock that was on consignment is now out of the store. The stock that is left (lots) will be tried to be sold as a package. Probably to cwc, cyclelab or someone else thats big. IF that doesnt work a firesale will be held. There will be advertisements in the local papers as well a big sign at the shop for three weeks. Good luck to the guys, hope a good price is reached, it would be beneficial to everyone. FanieFiets2009-08-03 08:00:00
