  1. Just my 2c - The first paragraph of the OP says that there was a board on the road stating "USE AT OWN RISK" Surely that implies that the road might not be safe but it's up to you if you want to use it and if anything bad happens to you it is your own responsibility?
  2. The video is supposed to be demonstrating how easy it is to reverse the trucks in a straight line with their new steering control system - even on an articulated truck.
  3. We really do get some beautiful afternoon skies in the midlands
  4. Sunrise over PMB before the start of the Hill2hill from World's View
  5. Any LBS that stocks Ryder products should have them otherwise they will be able to order them for you.
  6. I just use the Ryder spds and at 300g a pair and R500 bucks they win both ways! EDIT: Oh yes, they also have a lifetime guarantee! http://www.rydercycling.co.za/Graphics/Pedals/SPD%20BI%20PEDAL.jpg
  7. That's good to hear. You shouldn't be charged any extra then.
  8. One thing I can say is that those Kore xcd sl wheels are bullet proof. I have been absolutely thrashing mine this whole year with my 110kg backside on them and they still run perfectly true. I'm not sure the crest rims would still be turning by now with the abuse I have put them through.
  9. Ag nee man, what happened - did you bunny-hop another brick on the pavement?
  10. Nice one Nige! How much did SARS demand of your your retirement funds for it or was it just the VAT?
  11. The biggest drawback with this option is that you lose a lot of top end speed. The gearing of a road crank set is so much bigger. So where your big blade on the mtb is usually a 42 tooth the road bike has a 52+ big blade. Also the rims of a road bike and a 29er are the same size but the overall circumference with the skinny road tyre on is much smaller than the mtb tyre thus going less distance for each revolution of the wheel. The upshot is that it works, but you end up spinning out at quite a low speed.
  12. I see in the small description that the Amashova shirt is made from or has something called "birdseye moisture management" Perhaps that contributes to the fantastic price?
  13. I think a fair price would be between R120 and R150. And besides which what about getting the sponsors to chip in say 5 or 10 bucks each per shirt and that will also bring the cost down. We are after all walking around advertising for all the sponsors of the race that are on the race t-shirt.
  14. Also I leave the data connection on so that my wife knows where I am at. I find hitting the the little power power saving button in the pull down menu helps quite a lot too.
  15. I can do a four hour ride with endomondo running on my Samsung S4 and the battery only goes down by about 30%
  16. Quick question - Is it wrong to say that one likes a blockbuster, super hero type movie??
  17. The thing is, what would the cops do to you anyway? We do not have licence plates on our bikes and one is not required to carry ID so they can't even be sure of your real name to write on a ticket. I knew a guy who used to hitch-hike a lot on the N3 and he got fines all the time for R40 for walking on a highway but he would just give a false name and say that he can't remember his ID number and then throw the ticket away away. He did this for years and nothing ever came of it.

    Amashova 2013

yes I saw that too. I thought it was perhaps road kill from the night before like an alley cat or stray dog.

    Amashova 2013

Well, that was fantastic! My first Amashova (and also my first road race) so I started in P batch seeing as I had no seeding. Couldn't find anyone going the same pace as me so I ended up riding a 106km individual time trial and finishing in 3:42 with that head wind all the way. I had heard of people touching 100kph down fields hill in previous years but I couldn't even get to 70 the wind was howling so hard straight into me. All in all I really enjoyed it and wonder how it could have gone if I had a bunch to ride with (I think I must have spent a combined total of 10 minutes in the whole race on other peoples wheels and the rest of the time I was just passing and passing other riders.) Despite being a mtb rider primarily I must say I do quite like this roadie thing!

    Amashova 2013

Does anyone know what will be happening at the starting area of the race? At the moment the whole street is still blocked off outside the city hall between church street and longmarket street and there is still no paving laid. It was supposed to be finished by September but as usual these projects always run over time and now they say the end of October.
