I think one of the reasons Graves did so well on the second sector is that he was running single ply low rolling resistance tires front and back which would have given him a big advantage on the high speed/ pedalling sections.

It's so flat there you can't really understand it until you actually see it with your own eyes. The steepest hill you ever ride up is the little ramps up onto the top of the dykes (kind of like the off-ramp of the freeway up to the bridge) Everyone always says how flat the Freestate is but compared to Holland it is like the Alps!

I thought I just had a head cold for the Tourdekrantz last weekend and after 35ks (very muddy) it felt like I had ridden 135k and by the end I just wanted to go to sleep. It felt like I had only 10% of my normal power. On Sunday it turned into a moerse flu. It's a chance you take, maybe it will be nothing more than a cold but the exertion could lower your resistance and end up with something worse. In hinds sight I should have stayed home in bed....

An easier way to get more than 2 or 3 percent back is just buy 1 thing less when you go shopping - no hassle, no swiping cards etc. Or just choose 1 brand over another that is slightly lower priced ie R97 v R100 then you have saved 3% wohoo!

It's already happening. The Ryder spd pedals I bought about 2 months ago for R350 are now R500!!!

I suppose it would be a bit odd if he did go.

I guess my point is I've ridden up Sani pass and I know how difficult it is and how long it took. To see these guys blast up those mountains at that speed is just mind boggling. I was trying to compare that climb to something similar that I have tried.

I was pondering the similarities between Ventoux for the roadies and our very own Sani pass for the mtb guys. If you compare them, Ventoux has around 1500m climbing over 20.5kms and Sani pass has around 1300m of climbing over 21kms. But then compare the lovely smooth tarmac of Ventoux to the rutted, boulder strewn gravel road with river crossings, mud etc thrown in. what do you guys think?

Yes, because effectively the brake is stopping the hub from turning and all of the riders weight/ momentum is trying to rotate the rim around the hub which is trying to stop rotating...

I wonder how that front hub will hold up against the torsional forces exerted on it under heavy braking with a heavy rider on board?

Absolutely. They are super strong, durable and are great in mud. I am a big boy and they have never given me any trouble.

I have this instead. It fits perfectly into the middle pocket of my jeysey. It has 3 bombs, bomb adapter, 29er tube, multitool, puncture kit, tyre levers and ID card for our local trails.

It could also be your pedal bearings. I had some that drove me insane!
