  1. Yet more discoveries... Algeria camping closed for 2 years! Had some correspondence about plans with Cape Nature and never mentioned this until now! So onto the next possibility Driehoek Farm....3 days of calls, no answer, no replies on emails...anyone have any inside info, is this place still open?
  2. Almost set! Head out next Sunday... clockwise from Bydiedam..turn just before Clanwilliam, then south...4-5 days with stop at Sanddrif to get up to the Arch overnight....maybe...maybe.. Any updates on road, river crossings etc welcome.
  3. Another vote for Panaracer, I have been using a variety for years on gravel and road... Slicks: Great for road but don't last long, the devil when its wet and tread wears quickly.... side wall eventually starts sweating....not great on heavy gravel. SK (Small knobs): Great for pavement and light to heavy gravel, knobs suffer quickly on pavement and they do tend to throw small bits of stones around ...dunno why...side walls hold up better SS(Semi-slicks): Best for light gravel/pavement/road combo and of all the Panas I have used, these are the best combo light gravel, pavement and road as well as wet conditions, last forever! If you going to gravel, go for the fattest tire you can fit!
  4. Eyebrows will only be raised in awe if this is fixie.....
  5. Thanks for the heads up!! I see its from 4th to 6th, that whole weekend...and all based out of Oasis, so yeah guess it may be a bit full in that area...plenty of other places to overnight, I'm sure...
  6. So seems the weather is taken a down turn AGAIN up North...if anyone has any updated Cederberg route info, please let us know...plans still on for End Sept/start of Oct...
  7. @Bub Marley...You should charge the organisers a "stay-away - great weather guarantee" fee.......you can split the rewards with me!
  8. Is it a bird or is it a plane....
  9. "additional information" tab.. Weight......1kg It is a computer after all...Maybe a modified desktop??!!
  10. If you don't intend flying with your bike again, then go for a cardboard box, most bike shops will give you one. Just make sure to use plenty of padding around the frame and re-enforce the corners of the box with lots of duct tape. Pedals and bar off, seatpost dropped and tyres deflated. Secure everything well so nothing can rattle and chafe.
  11. Cool! Thanks...will check them out...
  12. Any recommendations for lightweight meals, either the boil-in-bag or just-add-water option....don't want to carry pots around....meateater but will tolerate grass occasionally...
  13. OK, phew! so with a tent, I'll just stop and dos!😆
  14. 16-18% Wahhhh!!! have to rethink my packing (plan on self-support c/w tent)....
  15. OK!!! So the crossing where the Krom River goes into the Matjies River is flooded? How bad is it, I mean is it restorable or is that it for that section and detour is now permanent? PS the pics on that Strava link...gravel looks pretty sweet!!!
  16. A bit of inspiration from a relatively unknown and unwatched series (to me anyway!)....Richard Hunt adventures in some of the harshest gravel roads in the Northern Cape, some great shots of a major route along the top of SA! The pain and rewards of riding where no man has ridden!
  17. Final piece of the puzzle....
  18. Excellent! So I would assume the route CW down to Op Die Berg and back round to Citrusdal is no problem!?
  19. Oh no!!! Sheez RIP!
  20. Rory hanging out with TayHO @ Bar Robbo!!!.....shame, don't have much hope for Rory!!!🤣
  21. This!! Ghetto all the way!
  22. Jislaaik, now that sounds like a proper adventure...gonna break in first with Cberg loop but VERY keen to follow with this route!
  23. Excellent! I see the Wupperthal to EselBank is also closed according to that report so that shuts down the big climb loop suggested by @BuffsVintageBikes....hoipefully all will be back to normal by Sept/Oct!!!!🤞
  24. Keep us in the loop, I only plan doing it late Sept but would be great to get heads up on any major changes in the area!
  25. Ja, great video of the route!
