  1. Maybe it wasn't a Frenchman?
  2. The stupidity of people beggars belief...why?...if its a "protest" then it's pointless as no-one will know who did it.....jeez man, this type of thing just gets me riled up!
  3. Ahhh, OK I did wonder about that part about the alloy rim...I see now theres a braking surface there??......just increased my knowledge of carbon rims right there...so from what I understand this "fairing" is not a structural element of the rim, the rim is essentially an alloy one with this carbon fairing added...so really not a carbon wheel, actually an alloy wheel?
  4. Is it my lack of knowledge about carbon rims but does it not appear that there have been repairs at this spot before? ....outlines of strips....but in any case...toast, even if I do know nothing about carbon rims, my spidey sense tells me this will look great hanging on the wall of my garage with a clock mounted on the hub....
  5. I agree, and BZ to the security company but WTF is going on that it gets to this point....why are these guys not behind bars????
  6. Nice route, good mix...only issue now is that section of Bay Road instead of Hout Bay Main Road is now fenced off and Private...but the "new" climbing trail next to Hout Bay Main road from the Disa River road intersection up to Constantia Nek is fully doable on a gravel bike, a really nice climb up well off one of Cape Town's most dangerous roads....
  7. Here's great run: Start at the bottom of the Southern Suburbs Greenbelt down in Tokai Follow the Greenbelt trail all the up to Southern Cross drive Cross over, and climb the jeep track up the Kirstenbosch/Newlands trail Finish at the M3 and go left to the start of the Blockhouse trail (follow the pavement trail to the turn-off Rhodes Memorial Street just before UCT Campus Climb up to the Kings Blockhouse Come halfway down and turn turnwards the Table Mountain Cableway along the now-closed upper Tafelberg Road, past the Cable Car station to Kloofnek Down Kloofnek to Theresa Avenue an the trail-head to The Missing Link Enjoy/suffer the Missing Link to Llandudno Drop back onto Altantic Drive and climb to the top of Suikerbossie At the top of Suikerbossie, hop off and go through the Ruyteplaas Private Estate...(estate was built on the condition that the old Victorskloof road remains public so they let you in and out) Descend to World of Birds in Valley Road and make your way up to top of Valley Road Duck through the trail up there and join Hout Bay Main Road up to the Constantia Nek Roundabout...you can stop here for coffee or wine!! Follow Rhodes Drive back to Southern Cross Drive and you are back at the top of the Greenbelt Trail A real good mix of gravel and tar!!! Big climbs too! About 80km's

  12. Check your airline rules for sporting gear, most have limits on size and weight, usually enable you to have at least your bike in a box as part of you checked luggage limit, some charge, some don't, best to know before hand.. Best bike bag that you can afford, if you use a bike box from a bike shop, they usually free but make sure you re-enforce the corners and underside with duct tape. It will only last one or two trips. Pad the frame with pool noodles... Remove the rear mech... Remove pedals.. Deflate tyres... Stuff the gaps with strong plastic bags filled with bibs so the frame doesn't rattle around inside the box/bag Take a small box with some tools/spares, just stay inside weight limit. Use your entire check-in limit for the bike and bike stuff, you can add your other MTB gear to carry-on, if you taking a bike to S Land, you don't need anything else...maybe toothbrush... On your way out go to Customs and declare your bike, just take a pic of the frame serial number, or the bike if no serial, fill out the form and keep it handy for your return cause some bugger will try accuse you of running a second hand bike import business when you come home!...Show him your Customs export form and Presto! Enjoy S'land and make sure you pay Morgins a visit!!!! Or any alpine trail for that matter!!!

  23. You can send Strava gpx routes to the Edge 130 and then navigate that route but there is no base map on the Edge 130 so you just get a basic B&W "line" drawing of your route and it will navigate you along those lines, no street names etc etc Try to get the plus version tho....a few more features Great resource for review: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/06/garmin-edge-130-plus-in-depth-review.html
  24. Ooooo, my favourite ride in Cape Town...but a lot slower!!! GP9 and Max...
