    Security overnight is another thing that needs to be considered...how do you secure your bike at night?

    Always in cellular range or not? There are plenty of mobile apps that will be able to do this... If not, it would depend on if the track data is already inside the map. You can download trail map data from places like Trailforks onto the device as a route and then follow that but if there is no pre-existing data it may be a little difficult and you may have to rely on map reading skills and observation. You can also use Garmin Basecamp to plot the trail and then send the file to your device. You can customise Turn-by-turn instructions there as well then run the map from the device.

    So I am starting to gather kit for a 3-4 day gravel ride Oct, Western cape...Ceres loop to be exact, about 247kms I believe, some guys have done it in a day!!!!! but I want to rather go slow and have my eye on this... Vaude Trailfront, 19L (although that's probably what you will be able to carry with a hardtail, not gravel bars) waterproof carrier. Alpkit Soloist tent 1.2kg, apparently packs down to the size of a wine bottle! 3 season so rain and stuff but not that good with wind Mattress: I seen it suggested elsewhere: FA Aero 5.5 410g packs small but maybe too thin...? Looking for suggestions....

    Drop your recommendations for gravel/adventure gear...do you have a favourite frame bag/tent/mattress/cooking/utensils/tools? etc....maybe a packing list/Must have, nice to have....let us know what you carry and post pics of your bike-packing rig.

    Try another plug...this happened to me, it should flash when charging , the status LED flashes green while charging and is solid green when charging is complete. Got another plug and it worked...could be related to voltage from charger...??

    PedalCell have a unit that looks like the real deal, apparently puts out between 15 and 20W, comes with neat looking hub with 2 USB ports, a bit pricey though...there's link to handy s/sheet that helps predict charging capacity......mmmm...maybe, maybe https://pedalcell.com/products/pedalcell

    Yip, EL and surrounds has some wicked hills, a few years back, after being taken on tour by the locals first time round, I had to call the lovely wife to come fetch me at the bottom of the last hill!
