  4. If you interested in restorations, watch this fellow apply his skills to watch repairs! The Nekkid Watchmaker...there are quite a few watch restorers on YT and lot have dispensed with all but the most necessary commentary so I find it very therapeutic, but this guy has just such a great way with guiding you through the process with wit and knowledge......he has tried to drop the commentary and got stormed by his followers to continue....his following is growing exponentially! Enjoy... https://www.youtube....GaHZdzowk2-7hJw

  6. Ha, also been follow this closely from the start, staggering detail and research going into this restoration! Real old-school boat building techniques mixed with hi-tech application...a joy to watch!
  7. If I may..... Coming from DH/trail/enduro with single crown full sus.... First ride on a gravel bike was "Ag No way man!" .... "Nee vokdit!"...."How the hell?"...My teeth nearly fell out my head! No suspension other that the little flex in a stiff carbon frame....Ok it was an MTB trail not a gravel road per se but I though, well at least I can ride on the road! But then I got wider tyres (35mm), gravel bars and better seat (Spez) and persisted and so far I'm sold on the new avenues and the flexibility a gravel steed offers ie start on the road, hard right onto the trail and pop out to finish on a swift road ride home. MUCH more time in the saddle that just pure MTB or road. Now I have to admit that I have not done any real distance on a pukka gravel road but I have done the Mast at Tokai ( ) and the full Newlands trail ( ) both of which have some knar better suited to a soft-tail/full suss and there are some parts that you do suffer and have to ride real careful...so you have to know up front that you are not going to be able to go full gas....as long as you realise that, you will enjoy a gravel bike if not purely for the speed you can tap into quickly and its ability to be used on the road voetstoets. So with the Stashe on 3" tyres, ja the issue right there...3"...I have had some on my full suss MTB and whilst it's like riding in an old cadillac limo banger with floating shocks going downhill on single track....they ride like you are dragging 12 inches of railway line everywhere else cause of the low pressure ...1.8 bar was just right for me! So again, its horses for courses, if you looking at a gravel bike, know their limits and evaluate the trail/race/route you want to ride....but also know that they do give you more choice. Having said all of that, the fundamental rule of bicycle ownership applies over and above any decision making process... N+1 Fin!

    Who remembers?

Reminds me of a different but similarly gory event from my youth...mate of mine lived on the edge of Baakens River valley, we used to go down and build rafts on the river (there were a few areas with largish ponds), fish for small mouth bass from them, one day cutting wattle saplings, I downed one near the ground but it didn't part cleanly, used it as a step to reach up for the next one.....as I started cutting, balancing on one leg on the stump...it parted and I slipped off the stump, the wedge shape of the stump gouged into by right shin, down to the bone....I shite my self, jumped up and ran up out of the valley to my mates house....on the way, I look across and see my shadow on the road and the skin flapping from my shin!! Haunts me to this day, that image! Not much blood but very deep wound.....Got 13 stitches and lots of attention at school!!!
  12. If you wake up early enough, downtown is a bit saner....

  22. Bwahaha, ok so that's close enough, you can boogie board in the reserve, on Wednesday mornings only , at high tide ...
  23. I've heard that if you want to surf in the reserve, you have to be born in the reserve...no-one was ever born in the reserve, ever, ergo, no surfers in the reserve....
  24. oooo, ok I have surfed in the reserve before but I don't know where it was cause all the footage I got was completely ruined by weird black bars that prevented me from seeing any landmarks, I heard its cause locals there have cast a voodoo on the place and any footage taken there is magnetically altered to remove references to any landmarks so when you look at it, you can never make out where you surfed and therefore you can never go back to surf that place again...ever...
  25. I heard that there's also waves there for surfers....but no-one actually knows exactly where...maybe next time you cycle there, you can scope the place out and get back to me so me and my mates (I'm a surfer and know how to surf and so do my mates!) can go catch some waves! Edit...where's that damn font now...thought I had it saved somewhere...ah well...
