  1. Yep its official: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/122503-team-argos-shimano-signs-reinhardt-janse-van-rensburg/#entry1829550 He's gonna make it big...
  2. So I see the Netherlands-based team Argos-Shimano has signed Reinhardt Janse Van Rensburg for the 2013 season. http://www.1t4i.com/news/2493/ Surely a move for JVR to an international team does not come as a surprise but I wonder how this is going to influence MTN Qhubeka's very vocal ambitions to have a team at Le Tour in the very near future. Nevertheless, a massive addition to the Argos-Shimano league!
  3. Very NB! What I do is to take photos with my cellphone of every single setting, position and bit of gear on my bike. This is handy because you have the pics with you and you can reassemble the bike with all settings from the photos.
  4. Hehe - couldn't he have rather asked about the birds and the bees...I suspect that would have been a less complicated and awkward discussion... .
  5. My second Satellite Classic, and I enjoyed the race - the surges in the massive AL bunch was annoying up until Hekpoort but then again the headwind was killing us up in front and it was virtually impossible to set a steady and consistent pace. Bunch obviously sorted itself out after hekpoort and it was a pleasant time trial to the finish . However, I just came to realise again that this is really not one of the safest races on the road calendar and I agree with others that the start / finish really needs sorting out. Navigating a bunch of 20+ riders through heavy traffic, parked cars and pedestrians on the last stretch did not only cost us A LOT of time but it's also dangerous. I also think that this race specifically needs to be thoroughly advertised within the area beforehand, and on the day other road users MUST be made aware that a race is taking place on the busy roads.
  6. Hope the weather holds out! Good luck all, be safe..
  7. Will be there for the 114km. Get the legs moving after Amashova...
  8. Do a search on the forums on rants about SASeeding, take a number and get in line...I have come to accept that the index cannot be taken seriously and I do the Trialseekers for fun, nothing else. There are more than enough truly serious MTB sprint races in and around Gauteng and I, for one will choose my participating Advendurance events with great reservation next year.
  9. Fully agree...I have been riding, spinning, running, walking and crawling (ok ok not crawling ) in my Shimano 087's for more than a year now and they have taken many-a-heaavvvyyy battering. I have had my eye on a pair of Sidi's for a while now, provided that the Shimano's retire...but alas they don't! No end to the bloody shoes hehe.
  10. Will be there too...I love this race. Was fun with the rain (+ faaaast downhills) last year, can't wait! Have a safe trip down guys and see you at the finish!
  11. This reminds me of a joke... Wat is die verskil tussen 'n Land Rover en 'n renoster? By 'n renoster sit die poepol aan die buitekant...by die Land Rover sit die poepol aan die binnekant. :P
  12. Hi, I will also be there - if you don't come right for whatever reason I can pick it up for you! Cheerz
  13. I like this! (But also because it's a stone's throw from our farm...die mooiste sterre op aarde )
  14. Haha…I misread the tag-line: “Talk to me about tantrums and wives…” (Damn…was just on my way to go get the packet of Microwave popcorn that I had left over after the IPhone 5 thread… )
  15. This is quite old...and it has a bit of inspiring video footage to go with the way cool version of Deep Forest's “Sweet Lullaby”. I watch this vid at least once a week when the office claustrophobia sets in… http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_843448&feature=iv&src_vid=zlfKdbWwruY&v=bNF_P281Uu4
  16. Someone recently told me about taking Nougat and water during races. I was a bit sceptical but I must say that it really worked for me during my last (108km) race. Bought a large packet of small Damascus wrapped nougat sweets and took a sweet with a few swigs of water every half hour after the first hour in the saddle. Worked wonders.
  17. Not to play Devil’s advocate here but I do believe that this specific scenario needs a bit of contextualizing. I drive Lynnwood out towards the Boschkop turnoff every day to get to work. Currently, the road from Hans Strydom to the Hazeldean Shopping Centre is being upgraded and the physical tar surface available to any kind of traffic is an absolute minimum. Also, the traffic light at the T-junction turning left to Oscar’s Place has been out forever and traffic backs up across the Hans Strydom Lynnwood intersection every morning. Finally, this area is notorious for minibus taxis who drive in the worst possible and most inconsiderate way possible. To say the least – taking this road is a nightmare and super frustrating. Now add to this already volatile traffic nightmare bunches of cyclists who navigate their way through agitated drivers, taxis and pedestrians at peak traffic hours. On a daily basis I just shake my head in disbelief at fellow cyclists who force their way through this mess at 7 on a weekday morning. And – I must admit, in many occasions they do so with an attitude - and in way that will hardly further positive driver – cyclist relations (on more than one occasion have I witnessed cyclists harassing drivers who did not make way for them – heaven knows where to – when passing). Every morning I just grind my teeth for the safety of the cyclists and hope for patience in the car drivers. Argie’s incident occurred on a Saturday and I admit that the traffic situation is better over weekends. I also think that the actions of the driver was idiotic, to say the least. However, we must consider why other road users who have to sit through this mess every day and then observe the actions of cyclists, feel the way they feel. We as cyclists are also responsible for the ever-present bad vibes between drivers and riders and a little bit of common sense when deciding when, and where to ride will not hurt. Just my 2c…
  18. Hey, that's only natural because that is more or less the time when you should be taking your mid-morning snack. By that time, even the energy in low GI-products have been absorbed and your body needs more...
  19. Does that mean that you will definitely be back next year? Yeah!!!!
  20. Thanks Octaivian!
