  1. Also had a terrible training week. I think it is this time of year where work takes precedence, as pressure is on to get as much done before the December Holidays. Doing Sattelite Classic tomorrow and on Sunday, the annual family Avon Walkathon (someone help me please - 30 000 + walkers!!) Hopefully I will get a run in late Sunday afternoon.
  2. I guess another club for the BikeHub Runners that occasionally cycles...
  3. Maybe we should start TheHub Running Club on Strava?
  4. At 70km I always tell myself... less than half a marathon to go, somehow it doesn't help. Comrades starts at 70km, that is when you start running with your head and not your legs.
  5. I agree, the average age at Comrades is 42 or thereabouts. You still have plenty of time to do your Comrades.
  6. Kudos to you Tubehunter for making the decision. I know lots and lots of runners with all sorts of knee/ other problems still holding on to finishing Comrades, no matter what the cost. There is nothing wrong with running the shorter distances. I enjoy the 21km. You don't feel like you got run over by a train after a 21km. Be thankful that you can still run 5/10/21 km. The important thing is to listen to your body and not to lie to yourself. You don't want to damage your body in such a way that you cannot run at all anymore.
  7. The "easy" ride will happen between km 70 and 80.
  8. 1081m of climbing. k@kPoort at its steepest, grade of 8%.
  9. I hope I can still run a sub 4 marathon at 85...
  10. So sorry, misread your post. 11 hours is cutting it fine... I would go for the 230 then if the HRM is not an issue for you.
  11. I see he is reporting 16 hours battery life. I have the Forerunner 620. Unfortunately the battery life is only 10 hours, DC Rainmaker's review is accurate.
  12. Have you read DC Rainmaker's review? http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/11/garmin-fr230-fr235-review.html
  13. Can't seem to print the digi mag. I have emailed them. Will let you know if they give it to me in PDF format.
  14. Thanks Raab, I will give it a try. I want to sort out my problem before the serious kilometers start in January. How long has she been using Perpetuem? How often does she take it on the road?
  15. Thanks Seabee, I think I will switch to gels instead of the racefood. I went to the sports dietician at TUKS HPC. She said I am not eating enough while training. Half a racefood every hour is 15g of carbs and I need 30g per hour. I will follow her eating plan in the next month and see how it goes. I am looking forward to a run not feeling nauseous.
  16. Thanks Rudi-H, I will try the tubes/ bottles. Nothing worse than a sachet sticking to your clothes.
  17. I don't drink coke at all, except for the last 10kms of Comrades. On long runs I will drink water and energade/powerade if available. At the moment I eat every hour, half a racefood. My doctor said this is not enough and I need to change the intervals to every half an hour. She also suggested using gels instead of the racefood. What do you do with the open gel, if you only use a little bit at a time?
  18. Also had a *** run on Saturday, was supposed to run the club 25km, I ended up stopping at 20km. I am struggling with nausea while running for 10 months now. Been for a gastroscopy, scans, 4 doctors and they can't find anything wrong with me. Two doctors said it is my blood sugar and it is very difficult to test unless I go for a blood test directly after a run or while running. It happens at random times while running, sometimes I start off being nauseous, sometimes only at the end. I decided to go to a sports nutritionist this week. Has anyone else struggled with nausea? I am feeling desperate at the moment as I don't want to run Kaapse Hoop feeling like this.
  19. So sorry to hear about your accident Ferret. This is terrible, hope you have a speedy recovery and you will be back on the road soon. 12 weeks means the end of January. That means you have 10 weeks to Two Oceans and 17 weeks to Comrades. Hopefully, you are one of those natural athletes that can run a 21km after weeks of no exercise I am off sick this week, haven't trained since Sunday and I feel like crying. We are truly special creatures. I am so addicted to training. Irritated as hell at work, my colleagues bought me a "koekroller"
  20. Girls still chafe everywhere else with a bra, Vasoline works for me.
  21. I agree, I have only used Asics and I can feel a difference from my first pair in 2014 to now. Not sure what exactly has changed. I am considering trying a different brand. Asics costs R1800 after your 25% Vitality discount.
  22. I did Johnsons, Om die Dam and Two Oceans before my first Comrades. I used google docs (spreadsheet) to log my kilometers and more importantly how I felt with each run. My total kilometers was 1000km from Jan to the end of April. In May I took it easy and only did one 21km.. rested for two weeks before Comrades. I didn't know what to expect on the day and I wasn't even thinking about time... I just wanted to finish before the 12 hours cutoff. Just enjoy your first one. Comrades is tough, most people I know who has completed Ironman and Comrades say that Comrades is tougher. It takes a lot of commitment, not just from you but your family as well. You don't have much of a social life / late nights on weekends. On the other hand, I met awesome people and made good friends with fellow runners. There is no better feeling in the world when you cross that finish line, it makes all the sacrifices and hard work worth it.
  23. Jonhson Crane is a good qualifier. One of the easier marathons as it is quite flat. Cons are on flats you still work and end of January is HOT. I normally use Johnson Crane as my qualifier, and it has a special place in my hard as it was my first marathon I ran.
  24. I run with Asics Nimbus - I buy shoes 2/3 times a year I get max 1000km on a pair.
