  1. I feel the same about posting... some of the cyclists on theHub can be very intimidating. At least the runners understand each other
  2. I guess I have tough competition then on Strava.

    Thank you!

Is there a company that takes photos at IronMan? (Like Jetline at Comrades and 94.7) Can you order photos for previous years' events?
  5. Looks like the list is complete. Are there no other ladies on theHub that are running???
  6. Don't worry, I made the same mistake I realized there must be something wrong because the first guy on the leader board for the cycling group had more than 1000km for the week ... I cycled 1300km for the whole of last year (shocking I know)
  7. Are you on the BikeHUB Comrades Marathon 2016 group and not the cycling group ("Bike Hub")?
  8. Our club decided to have their long run (50km) the weekend before OMTOM I told them it is a stupid idea and club members won't support it. You cannot do 3 ultras (Club long run, OMTOM and Loskop) over three weekends... I wouldn't exceed 21km the weekend before OMTOM. (I would probably do it the Saturday to rest the Sunday)
  9. There is a setting under Settings/Privacy. If you scroll down there is a tick box for "Make my activities private by default". I guess this is probably ticked.
  10. We all have these races. Mine was on Wednesday night at the Berg & Dal 15km. My wheels came completely off and I felt like quitting after 2kms. Don't let it bring you down, learn from it and move on.
  11. I stay in the West Rand and I just want a flat route...
  12. I ran 1300km in 2015 from Jan to May before Comrades and 1000km in 2016 (mainly due to not feeling well in Jan and Feb). I didn't feel the 300km difference in 2016. I still felt strong to the end. I agree with quality over quantity ( I started reading "Run less, Run faster" by Bill Pierce. 2 days cross training, 3 days running and 2 days rest) Rest is so important. I used to have one rest day per week in the past, I am now changing to two rest days a week. (Strava is not helping... I feel guilty if everyone is running, and then I probably end up going for a run ) So my advice for ultra run novices: Join a club, there are runners with lots of experience. ( and they love to talk about running)Greet fellow runners and chat to other runners at races. You motivate each other while suffering together.Get a training buddy (I didn't have one for my first Comrades and I regret it ever training alone)Be thankful for the good runs, don't feel discouraged about the bad ones. We all have them.Sort your eating habits/ fueling strategy out on long runs. You need to get to know your body before a race. Don't try anything new on race day. Run without your watch now and again... Just run, no pressure about splits etc. Listen to your body - You might do more damage when you are ill, have an injury or are just plain tired.Happy running this weekend everybody!
  13. Excellent times! Even 9:30 and 9:20. Going for your green number?
  14. Thank you for the feedback, I will keep him in mind for next year.
  15. Very nonchalant... "just an 8 hour Comrades". I would be very very happy with a Bill Rowan. Lexx what were your previous Comrades finishing times?
  16. How does the training program work? Do you see the coach often or do you give feedback over email? I only recently decided that I want to get a coach for my 2018 Comrades.
  17. "If you've had a bit of a lazy December, be patient and build up slowly. The Comrades isn't won in January" - Lindsey Parry Saw this yesterday and felt better about my fitness levels. I heard the experienced runners used to run Ottosdal in the evening and then drive back to run Johnson's the next morning! Absolutely crazy, I know. Johnson's was my first ever marathon, so I feel some sort of obligation to run it. I have also only heard good things about Ottosdal (except that it can be very humid and hot). Well, Johnson's is not much better weather wise. It seems that race organizers take more entries but the number of parking areas stays the same.
  18. Good luck with Dischem Andrew. One of my favorite 21 races, but it is just too busy. Parking is a problem and the traffic a nightmare. Johnson Crane is also my first marathon for the year. I hope to improve my marathon time as well. Don't want to stress about it, it depends how you feel on the day. How is Ottosdal compared to Johnson Crane?
  19. Welcome back Ferret, can't believe it is 100 days already! You are a true inspiration to me to start with my proper training and to stop messing around. (I am not injured, just seriously lacking some motivation) Good luck with the London marathon, hope you heal up soon and you gain your fitness levels quickly. Maybe you should decide closer to London marathon if Comrades is on the cards? Substitutions start 1st of April. Don't chase time, run with us slower lot
  20. Om die Dam is tougher than OMTOM for me, even if it is shorter. I think it is because it is not very scenic and there are no supporters. I wouldn't add another 6 or 10km. It is a sufficient distance. Om die Dam is for me more the mental preparation than anything else.
  21. Try this: http://www.comrades.com/images/pdf/Bronze_May_2017.pdf
  22. I haven't run Akasia, and I can't seem to find any info on Strava about it. I have done Johnson 3 times. It is very flat and you work all the time. Total elevation from last year was 188m.
  23. You can substitute cycling with running but not the other way around. I also run during the week and cycle over weekends. I only concentrate on running up to Comrades and then I start cycling again. Be careful for not overtraining. It is tough to ride a day after a long run. Good luck with your first 21km and 42km.
  24. Happy New Year everyone! I hope your 2017 running year will be amazing, injury free and you reach all your goals. So my race calendar for the year: (leaving out 15km/21km races) January - Johnson Crane 42km (Didn't train as hard over Dec, so this is going to be a long day) February - Bronkhorstspruit 32km, Pretoria Deloitte's 42km (seriously stressing about this one... as it is very tough) March - Om die Dam 50km (I have a love-hate relationship with this race...) April - Two Oceans (was planning to do Loskop as well but it is a week after Two Oceans... too close to Two Oceans, so will be doing the Loskop Wild Challenge) May - Adrienne Hersch 21km and RESTING for the Big C My running goal for this year is to just enjoy running again and to feel normal while running (no nausea and no bailing at races). No time goals for 2017 at Comrades. My plan is to work towards a BR for 2018... (There, I said it out loud and in writing...)
