  1. Very interesting article!! I think I drink too much but it does not cause my nausea as I am drinking the same amount of water as before.
  2. I use HydraChoice. Tastes great and it has probiotics as well: https://dischem.co.za/product-view/3062/hydrachoice-sachet-creme-soda-5s
  3. Good luck Andrew, keep an eye on your heart rate, it will tell you if you are still sick.
  4. I drink a lot of water. Even when not running... about 2 to 3 liters, if not more. I always have a bottle of water with me, no matter where I go. This could be contributing to the problem, I will watch my water intake on Sunday. I always eat before a race - I used to eat mieliepap but the sports dietician said it is high GI and should rather eat oats. So I have switched to oats.
  5. Thanks, I will chat to my GP about this. It feels to me that I get more nauseous when I drink water on a run. I am drinking Lenamet at the moment, it is also used for ulcers and reflux. It seemed to help at Deloittes up to 17km. Will try it again on Sunday. Do you drink Coke at all at races? Does it help with nausea?
  6. Thanks, Fanie, will have a look at this. Do you only feel nauseous on long runs? Did the medication take away the problem completely? What tests did the doctor do to diagnose this?
  7. Out of interest sake, any feedback on this story?
  8. You are right Andrew, I don't think I will ever stop running. It is part of who I am and it has helped me thru difficult times. (This is difficult to explain to non-runners.) I am a neat freak ( I think a little bit of OCD...), I always pack away my shoes and clothes etc. Except for my running shoes, it is always next to my bed I agree we all go thru bad patches with running, I guess you have to work thru it and learn from it.
  9. Good luck Gringo. I agree with Lexx. Just enjoy it, don't worry about your time. Make sure you have your eating strategy in place, don't try anything new. Take it easy the first half, you are going to need it in the second half.
  10. Thank you, SwissVan. I have entered Om die dam, OMTOM and Comrades this year. I will make a decision after Two Oceans what my Comrades plan is. Comrades is not a race where you pitch up if you are not feeling 100% - physically and mentally. At this stage I am hoping to get this sorted out before Two Oceans.
  11. I haven't tried a complete diet change like a gluten free diet. I am very cautious about what I eat. I don't eat bread, sweets, coke etc. Generally, I am very health conscious.
  12. Thanks, Seabee, you are right. I am also convinced it is something physical. I have been for a sonar. No stomach ulcer, liver, kidney or gallbladder problems.
  13. I understand the boredom part. I have been doing this for four years now, and I must say it is getting to me now. I struggle to stay motivated year in and year out. I don't know how people run 10, 20, 30, 40 Comrades marathons. I miss my bike and not stressing about kilometers for the week, average pace and long runs. With my current nausea problem, a running friend of mine suggested that I should stop running completely. Just thinking about stopping makes me sad. Running has become part of my life.
  14. Wow Edgar, doing some serious kilometers at a serious pace!! Good luck for Vaal. Why did you stop with Comrades after 2010? (Just out of interest sake) Most people train for their B2B and then they are hooked.
  15. Thank you to everyone involved for organizing the ghost ride. I hope this will make all road users in the area aware of cyclists. Be safe out there everybody.
  16. I take my hat off to you, especially when winter comes.
  17. Jackes, why are you getting up so early? My new year's resolution was to start running in the mornings... well that didn't go as planned. I run in the evenings during the week, struggle to get up so early and then go to work. I see James and Jodie Cunnama train 35 to 40 hours a week for Ironman in the peak months. (Then again they are pros.)
  18. That is insane!! One of my club mates ran 3000km from Jan to May in 2015. I passed him at Inchanga that year.... he was walking and not feeling well. He finished in 11:45 or thereabouts. I don't think I do 3000km in a year, nevermind from Jan to May. Your body needs to rest.
  19. I also don't like gels... someone suggested I must give it a try to see if it helps with my nausea. I eat one racefood every hour, that is 30g of carbs every hour. I will give Hammer gels a try on Sunday. At Comrades, I would eat potatoes when I see a potato waterpoint. Seems to work well for me, rather than sweets.
  20. Hope you feel better soon Andrew!! Good luck for Sunday. I am also doing the marathon, stressing about it as if I have never done a marathon before. Welcome back Ferret!
  21. Thank you, guys! My only birthday wish is sunshine and no rain this weekend, oh and getting my running mojo back
  22. Well done Andrew, a sub 2 at Pirates is excellent. I ran my worst 21km but I wasn't planning for anything else. Not feeling great, but at least I felt better than Johnsons and my legs were fine to the end. Stressing about Om Die dam, 50km seems very far at the moment. I am running Deloittes 21km on Sunday. Another tough half marathon and then Vaal Marathon the 5th of March. I haven't done Vaal before but I have heard it is very flat. Are you guys riding Argus?
  23. That is awesome news!! I do believe that you should be thankful and grateful for every good run you have, no matter the distance or speed.
  24. Elevation 390m, worst parts are km 9 to 11 and then km 12 to 13.5. Lekker downhill from km 14 to finish.
  25. I will be there, tough race. I am using it as a training run, no time expectations.
