  1. I am so frustrated not running!! At the same time I am dead tired, really struggling to get up in the mornings. So, you are not alone. Maybe a couple of day's rest will help. We don't always listen to our bodies...
  2. There are usually a lot of Substitutions available... [emoji4] Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
  3. 6 weeks is more than enough to recover. I am running Om Die Dam 50km and that is a month before Two Oceans. The race calendar confirmed that Loskop is the weekend after Two Oceans Loskop is going to be a long tough race next year,
  4. Here is the link to the road running race calendar for 2017. The ics file can be used to import the races into your Outlook Calendar. I have also included the excel file. Thank you so much to Bruce at RAC for providing me with the info. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/u4xnkwnvumtfhhf/AAAAh5teWPKeOWknK0g_mty0a?dl=0 Please let me know if you have any problems.
  5. I have contacted the organizer of Tough One. They sent me last year's booklet that they hand out electronically. I created an Outlook Calendar import file from it. RAC told me today they will send me the 2017 spreadsheet asap. I will send you a link to the spreadsheet and Outlook ics file as soon as I have it. The Calendar import really helps to do your race planning. Apparently, Loskop is the weekend after Two Oceans I hope this is not true... As I already booked my accommodation for Loskop. I will keep you posted. PS. The spreadsheet contains the races for the whole year for all provinces.
  6. Maybe it is your body telling you to rest.. I would go for a Neurobian shot just to boost the immune system.
  7. How much sleep do you get per night? (Just interested, as usually if I have to train I sacrifice some sleeping)
  8. That is amazing kms. I take my hat off to you, I assume you are training for Ironman? Where do you find the time? What work do you do? I wake up at 5 to be at work at 7 in the mornings and leave at 5. I run in the evenings only at 7.
  9. If you are training for Comrades your bike becomes a white elephant. I only touch my bike from July to November (after Comrades). I normally run during the week. Like you said 1 hour of running is better than 1 hour of cycling. I think a ride should not be less than 2 hours and I don't have the time during the week. (and I would rather go for a run than sit in a spinning class...) I cycle over weekends, but I do struggle to do a long run and cycle the same weekend.
  10. I think 2018 will be better (and it is a down run). Start building up the kilometers gradually. Concentrate on running a good time on a 10, then 21, 32 (there are not many 32km races around) and then the very daunting 42km. I have heard from my running club mates that some people take 2 years to prepare for their first Comrades. I didn't do this and if I can do it over, I will not jump into the deep end again.
  11. Glad to hear I am not the only one! Looking forward to the December holidays. Sleeping late and then go running ( I don't mind the heat training)
  12. I only had bad experiences at Argus... The first year I rode was in 2009, known as "the windy" year. I got blown off my MTB bike three times and I weighed 15kg more than what I weigh now... finished in 6 hours 48 minutes. I was walking down Chappies because of the wind. In 2012 I was well prepared, flew all the way down. I got really sick the day before the race and decided not to ride. That year there was no wind and it was perfect riding conditions... In 2013 I trained hard and wanted to redeem myself from the 2009 results. I took my bike for a service a week before Argus. (Won't mention the LBS's name...) Had a good ride up to Smitswinkel, when my gears stopped working. I stopped and my rear gear cable snapped. I freed to the mechanical tent where they couldn't really help me. I ended up with ONE gear, I still had to go up Chappies and Suikerbossie. (I have new respect for guys doing races on a single speed) I want to do Argus again, it is just too expensive to go down for Argus and OMTOM.
  13. I hate this time of year, you feel tired of working and have no real motivation to train as there are no "big" races around (Tough One used to be my last one for the year) I had a bad 94.7... Stupid me didn't realize my back brake was touching my wheel, and I only thought of stopping after 36km.... Couldn't figure out why I was struggling up every climb. Had a valoid half way and just survived for the rest of the way. Anyway, I have completed my 9th one consecutively. I will be taking it easy for the next two weeks while on meds. My obvious question to the doctor was can I train while being on antibiotics? He said yes, as long as I am not overdoing it. So I will definitely not be on the leaderboard for kms trained in the next two weeks...
  14. Sorry, I think I am on the wrong group then... Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
  15. The problem is that the group is registered as a cycling group. So the leaderboard only shows cycling related info. That is why I suggested a new The Hub running group. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
  16. Do the OMTOM Ultra You don't struggle to get an entry and it is much more scenic....
  17. Thank you, Stretch. Wishing all the runners on the Hub a safe and awesome 94.7 on Sunday. Hope your bums survive!
  18. Hahaha, well I shouted out loud in the office, my blood test is positive... I am sure my colleagues thought the same. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
  19. Thank you Scott. It is very difficult to explain to non runners why I am sad and upset when I can't run, something only a fellow runner will understand. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
  20. Some feedback on my nausea (in case it can help someone else) After a month of adjusting my diet, drinking no alcohol, drinking one cup of coffee a day, I still feel nauseous at random and even had a terrible Kaapse Hoop. It has almost been a year now that I felt this way and I am close to just start crying or drinking. After going to see my GP again, she referred me to a physician (who was very proud to show me his Comrades photos in his consultation room ). I think we chatted about running for half an hour and about my problem for 10 minutes. He said it is definitely not my diet and I must get tested for the Helicobacter Pylori infection. In short, it is bacteria that grows in your digestive tract that attacks your stomach lining. I got my results back today and it is POSITIVE!! I have need been so happy about a positive bloodtest . I have to start with two sets of very strong antibiotics for two weeks to kill the bacteria, which will hopefully sort out the problem. This also means I am going to miss Tough One this year. I guess not to run one important race this year is worth not feeling this way ever again.
  21. I was thinking of doing that - speed work on a treadmill. Is it the same as doing it on the road?
  22. I hate a treadmill. I will only get onto a treadmill if I am in desperate need to go running, and it is raining or very cold.
  23. It looks like a mission to set up and I will need a big room for my training buddies to run next to me
  24. What do you do with your Racetec chip on the second lap? I am thinking of doing two laps next year as I am doing my 10th 94.7 next year.
