  1. The best would be to contact RAC: randathletic@iafrica.com
  2. I will put money on it that Rowyn won't be available for comment.
  3. I agree. I would allow the cheaters to run. If they do finish (which I highly doubt), I won't give them a medal and name and shame them afterward.
  4. Very true, I like having toe nails
  5. Good luck to all running this weekend. Two Oceans is one of my favorite races, I miss being ultra fit.
  6. I saw some excellent times on Strava. Well done to all that ran yesterday. And in other news I see @Andrew Steer is back 👌
  7. I am borrowing the playbook from Steer as well... I started training for CT marathon (16 Oct) at the beginning of July... First and second week went well, third week exams got in the way, third week I sprained my ankle (fell while running with my puppy) and still nursing it this week. I hope to start again next week if all goes well. Good luck to all that will be on the starting line on the 28th of August. I have huge respect for all of you training through winter!
  8. Interesting article from The Runningmann: Comrades will cost you R13.76 per km... Bielie Mielie is the cheapest race around according to this article.
  9. Seems like this is the place to advertise: Accessories / Indoor Trainers and Accessories
  10. Thank you for the post, I thought it was just me that is struggling. Some of my friends are almost back to their normal pace and distance after COVID.
  11. I agree ScottC-M, I have learned so much about running on this thread. There are so many different "shapes and sizes" of runners (road and trail) with different views and levels of expertise on this thread. I do miss all the excitement and comments around races as well. I had Covid mid-June this year, took 3 months off after Covid (as told by my GP friend not to run) and since then I have been seriously struggling to get into my running routine. It still feels like an elephant is sitting on my chest when running. Not sure if I am just seriously unfit or if my recovery after Covid is just taking forever. I am taking it easy at the moment (running max 10km) but I do miss training for a specific event (I had serious FOMO about KH the past weekend). It sounds like Johnson Crane is happening end of Jan 22, I am aiming to get 21km fit. Let's hope and pray that 2022 will be a different running year for us all.
  12. I have a pair of On Clouds Cloudflow (bought them at the 94.7 expo in 2019 for R1700, retail now is around R3k). My 2c's: They are super light and comfortable (it feels like you are walking on clouds...????). I enjoy even wearing them as a casual shoe. I like their color range as well (Not sure if this is important to men ) My biggest complaint: They are much narrower than Asics (my Asics is a size 5 and On-Clouds a size 5.5....) They give me blisters (even on shorter runs). I guess you might have to go one size bigger with On Clouds than other brands. Also something that frustrates me terribly is that small stones get stuck in the cushioning quite easily.... My friend ran with her pair yesterday and we had to stop three times (on a 10k road run) for her to remove the stones I have no idea the mileage that you will get with them, I think I haven't done 300km yet.
  13. Awesome, thank you!! I didn't know it is open, and I seriously need some motivation to start training.
  14. It was awesome to watch, made me so emotional!! It is on my bucket list for next year.
  15. Thank you for clearing this up for me. I always wondered why trail races are so expensive as CGA/ASA and JMPD are not involved and the couple of trail races I have done had only water at the water points.
  16. A CGA license is R120 this year for seniors (not sure how much is going to ASA, so I will treat them as one affiliation). (I am excluding juniors from my very rough calculation) If we take Comrades runners, +- 20 000 runners, that is R2.4 mil a year that CGA/ASA is making. Add another 20 000 (complete guestimate) Non Comrades runners that belongs to clubs - another R2.4 mil a year. Temp Licenses at races cost R35 (2020 cost, let's ignore the R100 for a 42km). Let's say 40% of runners don't have licenses and there are +- 3000 runners per race (on average, including the 10km distance). There is a race almost every weekend of the year. For argument sake let's exclude 10 Sundays. For 42 races the cost is roughly R1.8 mil Each club must pay an affiliation fee per year. That is R450 per club and R1000 for corporate clubs. (CGA's k@k website keeps crashing so I couldn't find the list of registered clubs) Let's add another R100k. There are race levies per race to be paid to CGA. 10% of the entry fee per finisher... Let's work on 3000 runners and 80% of the field finished. On average a 10km race costs around R100, a 21km around R200 and 42km around R300. If we split a race 40% 10km, 40% 21km and 20% 42km that gives us R43200 per race for 42 races. Total of R1.8 mil (in 2020 Johnson Crane paid R350 000 as race levies.... so I think my sums are completely wrong) Then they get sponsorships they print on the numbers that they always moan about showing. In total CGA/ASA is making (a very very rough estimate) R 8.5 million a year for doing absolutely nothing. Please explain to me what they do with all this money? What are they doing for the upliftment of our sport? I love my running club and my running friends I made at the club. I am still in two minds if I will join again this year.
  17. I did my first Cango Marathon last year (end of Feb). I enjoyed it and it is absolutely beautiful. The people are friendly and it is nothing like Gauteng marathons with 5000+ runners. I can highly recommend it. In George there is the Outeniqua Harriers running club. I think they are probably the biggest running club in the George/ Oudshoorn area. I still have the Knysna Forest Marathon on my bucket list. I see they are advertising it for the 10th of Jul 2021...
  18. They are broadcasting from 8 am to 4 pm. The men's race starts at 10:15 BST, I think that is then 11:15 for us.
  19. Hi You Biscuit, is the watch still available?
  20. Hi guys, does anyone have an old running watch they are not using/ want to sell? (Preferably a watch that will last around 9 hours) One of our less fortunate runners in our running club doesn't have a running watch. I would love to help him out (he ran a 7:35 Comrades last year) Please send me a DM.
  21. just saw this on One Day Only: https://www.onedayonly.co.za/portable-folding-laptop-desk-stand-1-20200819.html
  22. I am interested, please DM me more details
  23. Condolences to you and your family, Frosty
  24. Thank you guys for all this info/comments about running to power. (Much more interesting than all the poo stories ) I started a 12 week Zwift cycling training program, based on power output and I can already see a huge improvement with my cycling. I never thought about trying it with my running. I downloaded the Garmin Power App, looking forward to giving this a try.
