  1. Working theory for those seeded in @ and &, that belong in $: Race office did a license lookup on the archaic CSA system and only received matches for those holding elite licenses. Those with Junior or Vets 30-39 licenses got a false negative and were assumed to be unlicensed and thus general seeded, hence being lumped with the 40-49 and seeded or the 50+ and seeded start groups. This theory holds for those also entered for TdPPA as the broken lookup seeding system would already have you in the highest group it thinks you are eligible for.
  2. Have kid. ✅ Have bod. ✅
  3. Excited to line up for my first one on Sunday. Route looks like the climbing is quite front loaded, but the profile may be deceptive...
  4. He was on the Elite start list yes.
  5. I'm fine with two cats combined, it's just another thing to manage but it's not too hectic. The four cats in one at WC Champs was too much though. Identifying riders was once again impossible with numbers all over the place, and at WC Champs we at least all mostly know each other. It was once again a case of asking around once the break is established to figure out what's going on. SA's 2021 in Swellendam we had clear number distinction (if I recall they were even colour coded) and it worked really well.
  6. Another older tyre, and a bit more expensive than the ones mentioned but also lasts many km is the Michelin Pro 4 Endurance v2. Best compromise I found for puncture protection vs rolling resistance for tubed tyres when balancing those were my goals with tyre selection.
  7. I do the same, but at my weight I only get just over 5000km out of the back wheel on GP5k. Very expensive.
  8. At 20W rolling resistance per tyre vs 9W for a racing tyre it would also feel like you're still on your MTB, so there's that... Not saying you should get racing tyres though, just saying gators are slow AF... Your question on width. Yes, get 28mm, or even wider if your bike has enough clearance.
  9. My race report from the vets group is a bit boring... The first half of the race was a tad too easy, which made the attacks in the second half really sting. Third lap the multi-pitch climb was hard from the bottom. The final 5min we were pushing over 400W single file through the feed zone going 37kph with okes trying to grab bottles while gaps are opening. I remember looking at my heart rate of 182 thinking this is good, I'm hurting but I can manage this and others are hurting too. Then the attack came and I had to drop 800W to follow, redlining 187bpm for the final 1min40s to get over the top. At this stage we're approaching mid 30's so the heat is playing a factor, there's still a break up the road and the team dynamics and having two cats in one race are disrupting our cohesion. I did some work and I threw some attacks just to keep things moving along. Felt like I was playing my cards right, but on the second pitch of the last lap I couldn't do the required over 400W anymore and was reduced to zone 3 Watts at zone 4 HR. Finished with one other guy 3 odd minutes behind the bunch. Somewhat disappointing, but sometimes that's just how racing goes...
  10. De Bod 32:12.990 ⭐ ⭐⭐ ⭐⭐ Mind blowing!
  11. Not really a surprise no, he is incredibly strong.
  12. Live results as they come in: https://mobiielite.com/results/
  13. From CSA website. Unsure if it's version *final* or *final_final*...
  14. I see some names in different cats on different days. I'll assume it's a mistake that'll be corrected soon...

  16. Men's race on Sun 12th, yes. It was a whole saga with CAC essentially giving us the cold shoulder. You can read the summary here: https://www.cyclingsa.com/cycling-sa-statement-following-african-road-and-time-trial-championships-date-confirmation/
  17. Not much wind currently being predicted... Let's hope the neutral vehicles hand out water on Saturday and that they don't kick in a hot weather protocol for the Elite Ladies and Masters Men that only start ~10h00...
  18. 170km with 1900m elevation I reckon is tough enough to make it into a race of attrition. A strong move could go on the climb on the second to last lap with 50km to go. It's deep enough into the race to have tired legs, but too far for guys to immediately panic and shut it down. Could see a group of 5-10 go to the line.
  19. Cool visualisation. I did not expect such a rapid drop-off. Looks like if you want to go sub-3 and you're not in A, you should at least be a rider that belongs in A, but just didn't do a proper seeding ride...
  20. Yeah, might have to do something about that... 😆
  21. earlyrider also has 14" bikes. If you scroll down each one has a photo of saddle height taken from the ground with the seatpost at max insertion. At 47.5cm I think the 16" is quite high, too high for a not yet 1m tall bloke. FYI the average 4yo is 103cm, and an almost 100cm 2y3m is 99th percentile! 😱
  22. I'm looking at this bike. Expensive, but it's ballpark what I spent in September on new tyres + drivetrain components on my own bike so... Any other bikes I should consider? https://earlyrider.co.za/product/belter-16/

  24. Yeah. Look at Aussie Nationals earlier this year and recently Colombian Nationals. Crowds 4 or 5 deep on the climbs... 😢
  25. What a stacked field. Here's the Elite men for the road race:
