  1. Some of us did Tour du Cap Stage 4 this morning... 🌧️ 🌧️ 🌧️
  2. If only my GC lead was bigger (and I owned a gravel bike)...
  3. Shot guys. After losing time yesterday to the bloke I was nervous for today. Barney looked to be approaching things much more cautiously and conservatively, and I was getting myself ready for a real fight up Du Toit's. Saw him briefly at the base while we were getting ourselves positioned amongst the elites, then never again until 1min42 after I finished. 😁 Glad @Jbrwon the fight for 2nd on the stage. Pity about not making up the time to climb onto the final podium...
  4. Glad to hear. Sorry that you are missing out. Heal up soon and we'll see you at the next one!
  5. Kent Main and Brandon Downes going sub 20min today is mind blowing!
  6. My first one in 2003 was Ou Kaaps. Not sure about 2004, but I almost want to say I did that route twice...
  7. He is now listed as DNF. Haven't seen any info.
  8. * Filters by "Today" * Sees the leader board is unchanged... * Sigh of relief to see I managed sub-9 I did however loose a minute here to the eventual stage winner. 😓
  9. I was looking on at his multiple attempts thinking he's either very strong or very dumb... Nice bloke. Chatted on the way down Bain's.
  10. Somewhere past Hermon. About 30km in.
  11. No worse sound than that grinding of rubber as folks go broadside followed by carbon smashing into tar... I was dodging to the right before folks started going down on the right also. Someone smashed into my back wheel with such force it displaced my wheel and the bike bucked a bit to correct. Straight back onto the power as we were still in a crosswind and racing was still on. Not easy racing with youngsters that are still gaining experience, and ambition that sometimes exceeds abilities...
  12. Golden Cheetah controls the trainer with some variation within z2 while I watch YouTube or Netflix. Anything else on the IDT is death for me.
  13. Lange and Hatherly lining up at Umag Trophy 1.2 tomorrow...
  14. Rumour in the A-group was the anti-doping trokkie was there on a tip-off since it's so expensive to test... So... Anyone see who got sent to the porta-loo with a cup...?
  15. "Wheel suckers" are folks who join the break then don't contribute. The riders you are describing are called "the bunch" and in this situation the only "suckers" are those that aimlessly work at the front of the bunch without a plan... 😉
  16. Silly that the mass start stages start before sunrise! 😠
  17. Du Toit's is a longer effort yes, and looks like we are starting a few km up Bain's for the TT.
  18. So you doing Bains TT in 20min? 😝
  19. Looks like we might actually for a change get to do the full Du Toit's on Saturday! 😃
  20. Race directory has us with Elite + Jnr (and also now has me listed 😀)
  21. Off the front or off the back is my motto... 😉
  22. Yoh. Gutter fest to get to the base of Smits!
  23. > Or are people over fueling themselves? Not possible, you burn calories way too fast! What is possible is to cause GI distress by consuming more than you can digest or consuming things that you are not used to or in ratio's or quantities that you are not used to. In yesterday's Tour de PPA I burned 2260 Calories in 2.5h. 800 - 900 Cal/h is about normal for racing for me. That is 200 - 225g of carbs per hour, which no one can digest. I am gut trained to handle 100g per hour, but the rest has to come from glycogen reserves and some minor fat oxidation that is at least somewhat possible at race pace. Even at lower intensities that burns less calories and allows more fat oxidation to occur you will be going into your glycogen reserves from the start line. If you are not consuming carbs at your maximum possible rate you are limiting how hard you can go or how long you can go hard for.
  24. Not the one who asked, but this makes it look like you started cycling this year: > 1.5 to 2 hours into it a banana. I have alot of water. 2l in back pack and my bottle. And seems I need more. A banana has enough carbs for 15 minutes of fuel. Maybe you've been cycling for a while, but never hard enough or long enough to have bonked, and since you haven't done multi day events you haven't noticed how seriously you are under-fueling.
  25. Had this exact conversation with a colleague! "Are you ready for the Argus?" "I guess. I'm actually focused on this 4-day stage race at the moment." "Okay, so will you still get a sub-3 at the Argus?" "Maybe. We'll see..." 😆
