  2. If you are worried about doping in sport you will have to stop watching: Soccer Baseball American Football amongst others as well. Even in Rugby it rears its ugly head unfortuantly.
  3. Agree, started riding MTB in 97, 12 bikes later, last three Cannondales - cannot beat a Dale, Lefty is something else !!
  4. MTB From Pillgrims up Robbers is a cool and hard ride, some nice views. Watch out coming back down, serious downhill and tight corners and because there is not a great deal of traffic some of the locals in their bakkies like cutting the hairpin bends.
  5. Crispy - from which side will you be riding up Robbers Pass? On your MTB or a road bike? Not sure about the Hikers trail - through forestry areas and some don`t take kindly to MTB`s, some have seperate trails for bikes. What about trails from Castle Rock - Sabie?

I rode Shimano XT for years - no problem, it did not like very wet really bad muddy conditions though. Switched to Sram X9 for 4 years and now ride X0 and they are both brilliant - especially in *** conditions. Not sure if the two who posted negative comments on Sram are on some kind of pescription medication or something.

  20. Basso back in action after saddle sore Italian targets a place on the Vuelta podium Ivan Basso will race for the first time this weekend since the Tour de Romandie as he makes his comeback from a saddle sore problem that forced him to miss the Giro d'Italia. The Cannondale rider will be in action in the Italian national road race championships. He will not ride the Tour de France but has his sights on a podium spot in the Vuelta Espana and a place in the Italian Squadra for the world road race championships in Florence. Basso only has 22 days of racing in his legs and hasn't pinned on a number for 63 days. Due to his reported golf ball-sized saddle sore, he was unable to ride his bike for 35 days. "I've never had such a long break, even in the winter," he told Gazzetta dello Sport before Saturday's road race in the Val di Non, near Trento. "I was in great shape for the Giro but after starting again, the bike didn't even feel like it was mine. Now I've got 2,000km in my legs and I really want to keep working hard." "I won’t be riding for myself in the nationals but to help Moreno Moser and Damiano Caruso, who could go well if he's kept his form after the Giro. This is the start of my season with the Vuelta as my big goal. But I know I've got to take it step by step." The Vuelta and the worlds Basso is 36 in November and is aware that he faces an important moment in his career. But he is confident for the rest of the season. "There's no problem. I know what I did, how I train and what I can still do," he said. "I don’t know if I'll win the Vuelta but I'll go close. There are 13 uphill finishes, of which ten are real climbs… I think I'll be competitive. I think I can finish on the podium." Basso also intends to be part of the Italian national team in Florence to help former teammate and Giro d'Italia winner Vincenzo Nibali. "I'd love to ride and be part of the team," he said. "All you have to do to get an azzurro jersey is ride consistently well. Bettini knows what I can do and give to the team. There's no need to say much else. I'm confident I'll have a great second part of the season."
  21. Moreno Moser targets Italian title on home roads Moreno Moser is the favourite for the Elite men's Italian road race championship on Saturday which covers a tough 229km route on his home roads in the Val di Non, close to Trento. 22 year-old Moser, the nephew of seventies legend and hour record holder Francesco Moser, finished third in last year's title behind Franco Pellizotti and Danilo Di Luca and was second in the Trofeo Melinda, the race which hosts this year's title race. Despite struggling to repeat his success of the 2012 season, Moser won the Strade Bianche race in the spring and played a key role in much of Peter Sagan's success at the Cannondale team, including at the recent Tour de Suisse. Moser will team up with Sagan at the Tour de France for Cannondale and so has an excellent chance of riding his first Grand Boucle in the iconic Italian champion's tricolore jersey. The Cannondale team is expected to work to help Moser and has entered 12 riders for the road race. Ivan Basso is amongst them as he makes his return from the saddle sore that forced him to miss the Giro d'Italia.
