I did this some time ago and also fitted the ice tech rotors because the Avid rotors burned blue with the Xt brakes. Enjoy the new stopping power, go for the Shimano rotors.
I started on a Merida Tfs 800 which is a 23inch bike. This was bigger than your normal 26er and it did fit me well. It was well speced and did everything my 29er is doing so maybe keep an eye out for a Merida they will be well priced to. There is another spanner for you.
I would go for a xl hardtail. I was at the Giant demo day the other day and after more than a year on my Xl Xtc I could not get use to a 27.5 dual they had there. There was not a 29er dual but what I can tell you is that what I loose on the down hill I make up when I climb. But that is me, for the money get into a higher spec hardtail and work your way from there. 29er or 26er, well at your size I can tell you that you WILL without a doubt enjoy the 29er way more.
A very big thank you to the three mountain bikers who helped me today at Contemanskloof entrance, I snapped my chain on my way from Hoogekraal to Contemanskloof and was walking back to my car at hoogekraal when they stopped and gave me a new link and installed it for me. Is the dry lube normal dry chain lube? I wipe the fork down after every ride, do not use a high pressure cleaner on the bike and lube the shafts but obviously need to up the maintenance. Cheers
I had the same issue going from Avid to Shimano, I used a Shimano spacer fornt and back because I did not like the Avid spacers and washers. From the pic you have attached it looks fine but I would still spend the R100 and buy a proper brake spacer that is braced between the two "legs" but that is just me.
How long is your Fox shock suppose to last and when must it be serviced, I just had mine done after the first year and had to have the dust covers and lower leg bushes replaced, all very pricy stuff, if this is to be done every year then I am considering road cycling!!!!! Is this normal?
I do this route a couple of times a year and its sad to see how many people dont buy permits. Its good to see when they get stopped by your security. Two weeks ago I stopped next to a guy at golf course who just rocketed off while we paid at the lodge only to find him on the big climb later without a day permit. Next time I will take their reg number. Track is in good shape and I love the new section but pity about the trees been cut off on the green route.
Meerendal will be closer to Graanendal than any other track, I assume you know how to get there, just take a shortcut through D'urbanville. Spesbona and from there to Hoogekraal is also a option for a nice combo ride.
I agree, maybe not swop Crossrides for XT wheels. I have rear hub problems with my Crossrides but lets see what Mavic does with the repair. CWC sells a set of flow rims on hope hubs for 5499 that might be a good upgrade one day. I thought the XT was a good buy at 3599 but from advise here and what I have read one should rather wait and spend a bit to get a lot more.

I see CWC is selling XT 785 wheels for 3599 are these any good and is it worth swopping my Crossrides for them. I know they are centre lock, what is the rider weight limit on the XTs?
I took my XT shadow+ out on its first ride today, much more quit and I like the way the bike shift now. It is weird to ride the bike when it is so quit.
I have the same bike and also did the XT brake upgrade you will love it. Bought normal Crossride wheels and I am heavier than you love them too and they are getting hammered by me every week but stay straight and in one piece.
