  1. Yeah I have a good very expensive lawyer. He’s confident but I’m still nervous. I’m already trying to save money and talk less about some of the details. The first time we spoke I spent a few hundred rand hearing about how much he loved his new E bike.
  2. Thanks ICM I’m not sure what she is entitled to but she is asking to take a a lot of items from the house which is mostly fine by me even though she hasn’t contributed much towards them. She wants the car registered in my name which she drives that is financed for more than it’s worth and a lump sum which I don’t have. So it’s very hard to see how I’ll ever get an agreement. Meanwhile she’s living rent free in my house while I rent a flat so I cannot wait forever. So it’s really worrying how long these things can drag out yet hard to see how we will ever agree on an anything.
  3. Hope all you divorced Hubbers are enjoying better times. I'm also currently going through the process. I'm married out of community of property with no accruals. Thankfully there are no kids involved. After funding my wives business I'm about as close to bankruptcy as I think a guy can get and this has been compounded by all the recent interest rate increases. I have nothing but a little asset value left i my house. Does anyone know what happens when the settlement agreement goes absolutely nowhere? I simply cant afford to come close to meeting her requirements. I'm already relying on family handouts just to rent an apartment for myself which is a bit depressing to say the least.
  4. I use a music stand I paid very little for from takealot. But as a solution its no where near as practical as the kickr desk or the Cyclops equivalent. A work colleague and I are thinking of building one using our current suppliers but it has become a long term project.
  5. I've been a set of 60/80 DH wheels with the ceramic hubs for nearly three years and I'm extremely happy with them. The service at the time of purchase was excellent. A friend of mine also bought a set and damaged his rim which was replaced no questions asked.
  6. I went and bought a new coffee machine as an incentive to stay awake for the whole race.

    Formula 1...

If a driver illegally cuts a corner after a mistake and impedes another driver on re entry, why shouldn't he receive a penalty. In other sports intention or fault will not excuse punishment like it does in F1. It made for a disappointing end to the race, but surely the rules are evolving for safety. As has been pointed out a similar thing happened last year with Verstappen and Raikkonen.

A proper fitting TT bike will also save your legs for the run. You might be one of the lucky few who can achieve a reasonable fit with a road bike, but according to a bike fitter I used they are never as good as TT geometry. It matters less for a 70.3 but for full IM every little bit of additional pace will be appreciated.

It’s a shame this is the same weekend as provisional date for the Race to Stanford. Any guesses as to where in Cape Town this event might be taking place?

Is anyone doing the Xterra in Grabouw this year? I am planning to train on the bike course every weekend so if anyone of any ability wants to join me please let me know.
  11. I'm doing quite nicely out of the new system and its certainly better than two or three smoothies per week but... Last week I got my fourth diamond and told the wife that although we could go and get the sound system we want from Incredible Connection, if I get one more diamond it pays for the flights to Dubai as part of next years planned holiday. This morning I get my 5th diamond only to find out the Dubai flights are gone as are the R2000 vouchers at Incredible Connection. The other flight and holiday packages kind of suck as they all involve spending more money to reap the rewards. But hey its not all bad for such a short period. 870 points and five diamonds. I think I have done OK.
  12. I can't see how this is helping those who need it most. I would hazard a guess that the people who take advantage of this share deal already have some money / income to bank with and are off the bottom of the scale. The cynic in me thinks this is more about marketing than uplifting the disadvantaged. Someone has more than likely undertook a study and realized the gains from securing new customers outweigh the lost customers from the white minority who move policies. Then again the more optimistic side of me realizes that this sort of thing goes on all the time. Maybe someone could educate me on the ins and outs of BEE policy, are there BEE benefits to be gained from having this type of quota based shareholding? If a company can gain the BEE status by offering shares to their clients while running a more merit based personnel structure then I guess I prefer that business model.
  13. I'm not 100% sure how I feel about this but I've been half in with Discovery and half in with Momentum for the last two years. This might be enough to say enough with Discovery and go all in with Momentum.

Race 2 Stanford was brutal. Swim was rougher than I expected. The ride lived up to its reputation but was made worse by the wind. As well as the relentless climbing there were also some quite frightening descents. The run was hot and had a mix of terrain that made it hard to get a rhythm going. All in all I had a tough day it was a real challenge and by far the hardest 70.3 distance I have ever done. I’ll probably be back but with a bit more respect for the challenge. Well done to everyone taking part.

There are shuttles that I think cost about R60. From what I have heard there is a really good atmosphere in Stanford after the race. So maybe if you stick around you may be able to thumb a lift. I'll be getting a lift back to Hermanus. PM me closer to the time if you are stuck.

I'm doing the race but I haven't really checked out the routes yet. I'm confident in the swim so I don't normally do much of a reccy before arriving at the venue but isn't it mostly in the old harbour? The swell on wind guru is only 1.6, so about as small as could be expected. I just hope the wind doesn't pick up to early for the headwinds riding into Stanford.
  17. After reading a lot of the Vegan posts I'm trying to up my game a bit and go from mostly plant based to almost Vegan. I'm also not going to throw any more banana skins into the bushes and I'm going to give up my supertuck aero position.
  18. Great advice, I’ve got plenty of miles in the legs and while I’m still running quite well at some point I want to crank up the running a bit more and tick it off the list. I’m just not sure it fits with other challenges but I may just get an entry and see what pans out. Thanks
  19. I'm hoping this is the thread to ask about Comrades? I would like to know how quickly the entries sell out as I'm hoping to do it next year but I want to wait a while before I take the plunge? Thanks in advance.

I think a lot depends on the conditioning of the individual athlete. To be anecdotal I used to have to pace myself pretty carefully for an Olympic distance race when I was training for that distance. After two years of training for longer distances I can now take on an Olympic distance race at what feels like a flat out pace all the way. Maybe I could get faster times if I did pace myself but my point is that I don't blow up completely like I used to. If I trained for shorter distances I presume I'd have faster times but maybe I'd still be risking a blow out if I over cooked it. (maybe this could be explained from a bunch of three letter abbreviation type statistics gleaned from training peaks but I don't use it). I listened to some interviews before the 70.3 worlds and I think it was Lucy Charles who said that when she first started out at 70.3 distances she was pacing herself but with her focus going towards full Ironman and the field improving so much that she feels all the women go at pretty much 100% all the way in a 70.3 race, therefore for her the tactics are almost non existent. I assume she would take on an Olympic distance event going all out.

Some great advice so far. I would add that you may want to try one of those snorkels that extend up the middle of your face allowing you to swim without turning to breathe. I haven't tried it but I've heard nothing but good things especially for less experienced swimmers. Plenty of more experienced swimmers use them too as I believe they help with stroke correction.
  22. I phoned and when I didn't get much success asked my broker for some assistance.
  23. When I first started out with Discovery Insure I pointed out all the areas where I thought I was getting unfairly penalised, one was a stretch of road that was clearly not a 60 kph zone. They corrected their system and now it is set at 80 kph as it should be. I also queried one or two niggles and it wasn't instant but it all got rectified. Now I get my 100km event free driving every week and I get a decent chunk of cash back every month. So for me the complaining was worth while.
  24. Well done ICM.
