  1. Any idea as to how many starters and finishers this year?
  2. Saw a guy whose rd clutch looked like it had left the building and lots of slack on lower chain, was that him?
  3. Saw a bike with downtube shifters and skinny as heck tyres come through our spectator point in Fourways. Well done if that was you you had decent pace. I used to ride one to school in the late 70s.....😄
  4. Simple, LBS must get it to work. Are they well known and good reputation? I'd replace the hanger as it's relatively cheap compared to what you've spent.
  5. Nice video. Looked like a chilled day out.
  6. Can someone share how many starters vs finishers? Well done to all who started and those who finished. If you noticed you heard me cheering in Alexander Rd Fourways, on the gentle climb before the left turn. Was a lekker day to support and I might make it in with an entry next year. 😄
  7. Hey all, ride safe and wish you your PB! I will be spectating in Alexander rd Fourways outside our complex at about the 60km mark. If your bike breaks nearby I have a sexy Supersix Evo Black with Zipp 404's for R10 Million.....and a swim in our pool for R25 Million.....
  8. You have a whole year to train and not be a newbie. I started riding mid Jan 1999 and had smoked for 19 years. I quit smoking two weeks before the Argus and still managed a 4:42 at the age of 37......there aren't any hills in the route that should make anyone struggle but they do....I see riders walk up Edinburgh drive in the Argus.....hours in the saddle is what's needed ...
  9. How were today's trails? Hope all enjoyed their race!
  10. A Coke at the Shell garage (flattened to remove gas,) would have been better. There's not much good in an Energade either...
  11. Glad it's sorted. I had a brand new Aksium race, wheelset bought at an LBS and the dish was out on the rear.
  12. Yeah, I'm leaning towards cassette but the price is making my eyes tear up..... I was told that GX RD springs weaken over time but I'm feeling that the shiftings worse with the Shimano RD I'm hoping to be able to fund a new RD next month.... The next plan will be to try new cassette and my GX RD. For 13500km my shifting has been pretty much flawless and I've gotten v good at setting B tension etc
  13. @droo thank you, are you saying an Eagle GX shifter and XX1 chain, with a Shimano Deore RD would be ok?
  14. My ageing EAGLE GX drivetrain has started skipping when shifting down the smallest 3 gears. Cyclelab said bent hanger and it seemed to work for 1 ride then started again. I've tried other hangers too. I have less than 0.5 XX1 chain but original derailleur and casete with about 14000km on. I got a new Deore 12sp derailleur at a giveaway price and was told mixing Sram and Shimano 12 speed is ok and the RD is less finicky. The issue persists and I'm going to replace the cassette maybe with another GX as it's served me really well. Will mixing components work or am I in for a new microspline driver and have to buy a Shimano cassette? Thanks
  15. Is the bike a 29er? If so XL for 1.8m is too big. I'm about 1.8 - 1.82 and ride a large and could ride an M....
  16. Are there not Freeway signs on the onramps from Avianto onto the N14? Arguing with any cop in SA is about as pointless as it gets. We used to ride that freeway section but as per previous posts, having vehicles pass me at such high speed with the possibility of a truck taking to the emergency land going up the climb and the hugely deteriorated STD of SA drivers means I do the 20km to my ride by car .... Be safe
  17. I came across this on IG - Is this happening? https://www.instagram.com/p/DBd5SgfoPEi/
  18. Mine looks/is very different? I have 2 mounting bolts, about 4mm diameter machine screws that attach the hanger and dropout to the frame ...
  19. Was hoping for local. Can be difficult making contact with him....
  20. Awesome, thank you 💪
  21. Haven't seen anything from his owner's group for a long time. Great guy and hoping he's ok.
  22. I've had the same issue ie reflecting lower heart rate plus it "freezes" for a few minutes and then jumps to the correct value. It's the electronic part as when I try my spare unit it works ok.
  23. Adrenalin. Open source mould sold under Adrenaline and Vincent in SA......
  24. Hi there Can anyone suggest a LBS in JHB or online seller that's going to stock a replacement hanger as per pics? Many thanks
  25. I've been since 1999 and had a couple of mtb crashes of mostly my own fault and been hit by a car once on my road bike and I wouldn't even consider doing that ride - way too risky, especially for an out of towner. I'd rather hunt down a trainer or watt bike and stay intact. But that's just my humble opinion....good luck and Godspeed
