  1. Had the same issue. Went to a mtb race in Mpumalanga with 3 nice clean bikes on the rack....only to find the last 15km were gravel and lots of oncoming farmers sending their bakkies....had to wash bikes again...
  2. I got chased by a well known bike shop in the Midrand area and threatened with the Consumer Commission, as well as a few other shops for that 8k. That was some years ago.
  3. I used to work for one of the aforementioned suppliers wanting huge first orders. I also used to work in big business and understand that things we don't often consider also cost money: Loading you onto their B2B (costs suppliers time and their hosting service provider charges them per user), every invoice, credit note, courier slip and picked order costs money so I can get why they have min. 1st orders BUT, the guys I worked for were ridiculous in wanting I think up to 8k for a first order and I was told that one of the major groupset brands dictate the value of the first order, which is way higher than 8k plus the items you will buy...... To suppliers it makes sense to deal with as few customers as possible, while never allowing one customer to become so large they can dictate to the supplier. I was chatting to someone about this the other day and agree with an earlier post about rather opening a restaurant during COVID - Unless you have a unique location, stay well away. Even if you get exclusivity on a great brand, the cycling landscape in SA is so massively overtraded in respect of outlets/turnover or profit R its scary, Consider what cash you have to outlay on bikes to ensure you have what people want/need on top of all the components to satisfy the matrix of component standards.............PLUS, when you exclude CL, Trek & Spez, there are not too many brands left and in my opinion not enough to deliver the kind of ROI to make it worthwhile.
  4. I may be stirring a hornets nest here, so I am NOT telling anyone what to ride or what NOT to ride, just simply quoting my experience whereby I feel like hardtail is too much of a compromise. I don't mind pedalling the extra weight of a dualsuss, (I am not a small guy either) up a climb, and I love the compliance and ability to jump stuff over a meter even with only 120/100mm travel. I find I also get better traction on bump climbs and less fatigued on long rides. Some people love HT but I get close enough when I have to lock my fork/shock, something I don't do often. Cost wise, I would take a good 2nd hand dualsuss over a new HT, and I would rather ride an alu dualsuss than a carbon HT.
  5. I'd like to find which Checkers near me has stock, can anyone (please) post a link to the product? Cheers
  6. Looking forward to the final chapter ????
  7. My two Cents....(Having worked in the industry for a bit). If I had a few spare Mill to invest I think the last place I would invest is in a bike shop, importing bikes or components. I think the market divided by the number of brands and complexity therein is overtraded. Secondly, we stupidly overpay for new bikes - Looking at the latest Scott MTB's - I could get a KTM offroad (motor) bike for the same price. Yes its very difficult to compare, but look at the engineering and R&D and materials that go into a motocross/enduro bike compared to a bicycle and I think we are getting ripped off. Partially due to too many middlemen and parts suppliers and standards etc. I'm happy to shop in the used segment and have always managed to buy something that didn't disappoint. Yes, with COVID there was a brief upswing in the cycling market here in SA as people decided they needed to excercise, bought indoor trainers etc but when you stop for a moment to consider what is happening to our economy (my wife is in the retail Health & Beauty trade and her revenues have dropped by 50% in the last 2 years) - Companies have and will continue to downsize, the property companies are starting to feel it as office space and retail space becomes surplus. Money is just getting tighter and tighter out there..... To conclude, its my belief that there are so many brands of bike and component out there that for (another!) importer to scratch around to try to find a meaningful USP is going to be difficult.
  8. Bummer
  9. Hi I lost my multi tool in the Cradle yesterday vicinity of Boutique Pavillion Hotel. If picked up please drop me a DM? Cheers
  10. There is a collection bin at Valverde next to the coffee/takeaway stand
  11. Edited to delete....Oops please disregard....
  12. Thanks. Don't want to spend the Vitality money and then find out that I can't get it to work....Agree with you re Garmin. I'm very happy with my Bryton and it has amazing battery life. When my crappy Bryton HR strap failed I bought the Wahoo, very happy with that. I think I am better off taking it up with Discovery, although I came across a FB post back in 2018 where they replied with a "keep watching this space we are always etc etc..." They tend to be like Garmon, a 20 ton gorilla that doesn't much change too easily.
  13. Hi - The Discovery thread is way to big and under search I don't see anything recent in this regard...... Is it possible to use a Bryton (Rider 530) GPS for Discovery Vitality? I see it's not listed....

  15. Yip. Surprising how many people don't give a rats...
  16. Agreed. I've given a couple of short hoots when driving up behind cyclists 3 abreast on the Avianca road just to let them know I was there only to get the finger....
  17. Not when there is no space for ahead rider to move over and she was well aware of his presence. It was a case of "get out of my way". I'm not sure who taught you how to treat a lady but I will never ring my bell at a lady on the trail. In fact I only ring my bell at someone standing and blocking the trail. I'll always either say don't worry I'll pass when I get a gap or passing on your right etc...but that's a whole new thread..
  18. I know of one instance where said Andrew came up behind a family member of mine on the MTB trail and rather than wait till she could let him pass, had to rang his bell....not even in a race Nogal. It starts and ends with Cyclelab.
  19. The Cyclelab groups have been an entitled problem for years. They are in general, arrogant and behave like the cycling lane and at least half the vehicle lane are for their use exclusively- so that they can chat to the rider adjacent 3, 4 and 5 abreast. On the other hand I think it's Club 100.....they also seem to have the odd vehicle, tend to keep it real so do many of the other but smaller groups like Northclif Cycles and the tri guys. The Cyclelab brand - in my opinion anyway, has always been elitist and they don't give a ****!
  20. 200km...... to match my heart rate when I see said Lion....
  21. My ratchet ring came loose all on its own after LBS replaced wheel and freehub bearings and didn't instal properly which made for a long walk....although that's a Novatec hub. I'll forgive them as I've done something similar and they are Joburgs #1 LBS.
  22. ? A year for me is good. Don't get much better on my roadbike...
  23. Hate to bash a Co's products but I tried and thankfully was able to return the Rapide rotor I bought. Maybe it's just me but I didn't like the shredding sound they made due to the square cutouts...for me its either Sram OEM or Galfer who make offroad motorbike rotors too.
