  1. SORRY I meant to add that I replaced the valve core and verified by blowing that it "flows". Apologies, I should have mentioned that.... I'm thinking valve issue on pump. 😬
  2. Both my floor pumps started doing this at around the same time .. . At the bottom of the pump stroke I get a lot of back pressure and a hiss at the valve which is either escaping air or it going SLOWLY into the valve. It starts to become high pressure and reads off the scale ... My high capacity pump just pushes straight back. A while ago I replaced the head on my one pump as it was popping off the valve on my road bike at 7 bar so I use that for my MTB as it's high capacity and the other for my road bike I know I may have to buy a new one but money is tight and I hate throwing stuff out..... Thanks
  3. Yip, that had occured to me but on my bike I've battled to get the housing out the chain stay as the shift cable is a bit malleable. But certainly a plan B. Plan C will be taping the housings together ...
  4. Stunning idea, thanks I will do that.
  5. Different road. This is the bridge below Toadbury hotel, there's a gate to Wildwood Brasserie and just before ZZ Farms in the Cradle. However, wherever this happens it's scary. I also scan for wheels turning, doors opening or closing etc Be safe
  6. Hi Hubbers My son recently bought a Scott Spark 940, aluminium, circa around 2018 and I'd like to replace the shift cable housing - before I pull the old one out does anyone know if this bike is likely to have in-frame guide tubing? My Cannondale Supersix Evo doesn't and that caused me some sweat.... Cheers
  7. A few months ago down the Toadbury hill from Lanseria Circle one of those "churchgoers" cars at the river cut and turned across me ...I clock 70kmhr down there and always wonder when it's going to happen again....
  8. Please excuse if this has been shared, I DID do a quick scan of recent posts ...
  9. Thanks. Making very good progress. Hopes to ride in 2 to 3 weeks.
  10. Ok, took my son's bike for a ride and managed 59kmhr without any issues. I also tried hard and soft hands and head down and all good, so looks like headset solved the issue. For ride #2 we'll start at Neck and Deck and go Caves and Back to limit the speed. He checked his Garmin and found he fell off at 52kmhr. Lucky he got chucked onto the verge and not the tar.....he has a lot of tattoos..... We got lucky and once again, thank you to the kind souls who assisted. ❤️
  11. Strangely enough Ive temporarily fitted a previous XX1 chain which is at 0.5 but the new Powerlink seems quite stiff and reluctant to bend? Will it sort itself?
  12. Howdy For a Sram Eagle GX drivetrain: I've done 12000km on an XX1 gold chain and not yet at 0,5. A new chain (for my son's bike) is R2200. My question is: Is there an equivalent chain under KMC or is KMC a "value" brand that's cheaper but needs to be replaced every, say, 2000km like the GX chain? Thanks
  13. @DieselnDust I had but one interaction with him and we made our peace. As a cancer survivor I appreciate me surviving my experience. I know you lost a mate, serious condolences.
  14. Some feedback. I'm still fighting a chest infection but decided to do some digging which rules out a ride. When riding in our complex the front felt very "squelchy"almost like the tyre was way over inflated with a definite middle mannetjie but it's a Reckon Race and at 1.7 bar 20240725_122725.mp4 . I put the bike on the stand and found the steering quite notchy. Video attached without front wheel shows that the steerer didn't want to centre. New headset sorted that and I'll do a test ride at 70kmhr in the week but I'm pretty sure that was the issue. Please excuse messy garage, we recently moved.
  15. My son just bought a MTB and I noticed something rattling around in the read tyre.....turned out to be like a panel pin, yeah, go figure. My point is, I started by popping the bead and removing the pin, and then the **** started. Flippen tyre was behaving like Velcro and after 2 trips to the petrol station for air, I decided to do it properly - removed and washed tyre and rim, let tyre dry in the sun and started dry but with soap and it was a breeze (not the soap). Lesson - on an old tyre that's prone to velcroing rather just do it properly. On a new tyre I can do it without spilling a drop of sealant or shedding any tears yet today I was at my wits end. Took a lunch break and had a rethink.
  16. Was going to suggest you - we chatted a couple of years ago . ..😁
  17. Thanks Rob. Between hospital visiting hours and a chest cold I can't wait to have a look.
  18. Thanks. Nice interesting reading and video. We did do a quick loosen and re-torque of stem and bars but I plan on checking front to back carefully. Tyre had been coated with like a silicone spray that made the front - Ikon Race feel squelchy at home in that it didn't like keeping straight. Just got to shake this chest cold and I'm riding his bike. Crash test dummy #2
  19. Sorry to hear that you hit the tar. Wish you a speedy recovery. I got hit by a car in the Cradle about 8 years ago and broke a few ribs on the side. Ironically 2 weeks later I could ride carefully but laughter and sneezing were agony. Hugging your pillow will be your friend. 💪
  20. Yip. I've spun it but the disc binds ever so slightly stopping it from settling in one position. It could be that it balled and then had sealant added and it after a while collects behind the ball. Going to go through wheels, tyres, pivots, headset etc. I'll start by trying to replicate the onset - carefully of course. Have no desire being my son's room mate at Life 4W. 💪
  21. Thanks I'll give it a read. I'll report back tomorrow after a test ride. If indoubt I'll throw one of my older but proven tyres on.
  22. Thanks. I've had it on my MTB when I tried to ride no hands just lightly gripping with thumb and finger. I'm also going to check for play in rear triangle. Checked wheel play yesterday and they are ok. Earlier comment suggested bike shop but without sounding disrespectful to the poster, I don't trust LBS with that and I'd rather assess myself on road and in my garage. I've looked after most of my bikes for the last 24 years.
  23. Thanks. I did the "hold front brake and push-pull" and turn lock to lock tests and seems ok but it's worth opening. Appreciate the suggestion. Going to open front tyre after a careful high speed ride by yours truly today.
  24. Thank God we've already discussed next ride. Plan was a short Caves and back road ride but he's keen for a part of Northern Farms. We'll just stick to the roads and no single track. Still got 6 - 12 weeks to decide according to surgeon....☺️
