  1. Umm OP 's post was to get thru 947. Not even LA, DR. Ferrari & a power meter are gonna help. If you're undertrained you're undertrained. IMHO if you have to spin up higher than a 39:28 on any climb in the 947 you might as well be on a MTB or walking beside your bike.
  2. I weigh 105kg and have only ever cried for an easier gear when I rode the Jock in 2000 on a 9 speed and some time after up Hekpoort on the same bike. I've never believed in compact as it dulls the advantage of performance of a road bike by making you spin out too soon. I have 2 rear wheels with a 28 and a 27 and I never let myself use them. I stop at 2nd gear. Not sure of your full circumstances but unless you've got health issue or are are less than undertrained you should get by with what you've got.
  3. I've ridden in the Cradle since before it became a full loop and am saddened and pi$$ed that guys like your attacker spoil such a cool place. Have you been able to sit down with Garth (Bidon) to check his cameras? He's got excellent coverage and if you review within say 30 mins before attack its possible you can ID the group. Large group of riders - it's quite likely they rode from Bidon. Garth has a camera near the road and as I understand it he has or at one stage had numberplate recognition software.
  4. At 5 Bar the rim will probably fail. I've heard of rims cracking at 3 bar...
  5. If you're in Jhb try Wolf at Linden Cycles or Sheldon ar Dagleys (used to be Cycle United)
  6. I've never had to even think of using a lever to seat a tyre....
  7. Don't try to buy pivot bearings at BMG etc. As the pivots only rotate x degrees back and forth it's better to use a Max type (full complement) bearing. There are lower cost alternatives to Enduro that aren't cr@p.
  8. You shouldn't be seeing your GT. Make sure you start with the right width and that its stuck down on a clean rim.I agree in part with the post above...replace the GT with decent rim tape but use the Enduro Seal. I've used it for 2 years hassle free. I fit new tyres without spilling a drop. I get them to seat at the filling station then add sealant and re-pump at home. Ard you shaking your sealant before using?
  9. I doubt they are irradiating or adding anything. Could be that the strain you are growing isn't the same. Maybe GMO comes into it. If you've ever been to one of the Fresh Produce Markets you'll realize that there are different prices based on age. The cheaper it is the older it is. For eg a fresh pepper you could use as a mirror is close to what you see at Woolworths and maybe Checkers but the dull, limp peppers at Spar and Pnp are probably 3 weeks older.....same goes for all the other products. It's mind-blowing when you see a hall only for potatoes...
  10. I use an Allen key socket with a PowerBar (long wrench not the overpriced energy bar) 😀
  11. Have dropped you a message.
  12. That might require some open-heart-surgery but nothings impossible.
  13. 👍 that's the plan. I'll be starting on my own spare pair of Spez shoes shortly with a before:after.
  14. Thanks. The high price of decent shoes is what started me thinking. Its not great to replace shoes after a scuff or when the finish and the non-aging carbon sole is still good. I'm going to look at customization also. It's a special leather paint that can handle flexing which doesn't come cheap but I have time and while it's not entirely free I plan on keeping prices reasonable.
  15. Nice idea. One could maybe cut that u-shaped pad out of a heel that shoemaker fit to your shoes when they resole. Just cut with a small band or jig saw and grind to fit. Or buy hard material.
  16. Thanks. I'll PM you my no if you could then perhaps whatsapp me pics showing damage and other angles?
  17. Cool - Thank you I'll do that. I'll send you my number so you can send me some pics for us to assess what's required. 👍
  18. Hi Just testing the waters.... I have a bit of time on my hands and like working with my hands restoring and fixing....(sometimes fixing whats not yet broken)! Earlier this year I repaired my road carbon shoes which had one carbon sole toe section broken when the car that hit me parked across my toes..... (s'true). So, what I'm looking at doing is kind of similar in that while my repair was on the carbon sole, I'd like to offer a full cycling shoe restoration service doing the uppers and sole. It would be primarily to fix scuffs and damage or rejuvenate paintwork and even look at customization after I've learned to transition from walking (slowly with a stick) to running. There are sometimes limitation iro of how bad the shoes are and colours etc (I have a pair of Spez shoes with a massive scuff across some fake carbon that not possible to replace so there I'm planning on changing the carbon to a contrasting colour. I'll include the link to a young lady who does amazing work in the UK to show what is possible.....and i'll include my before and after on my road shoes (sole only) https://jarpz.com/#about My question is whether you guys think it's a viable business (it doesn't have to pay the rent and would be in part to fund my cycling habit). I would offer courier/Pudo and collection/delivery - based in JHB.
  19. Sorry to rain on the parade. Maybe it's just me but my road bike seldom needs more than a wipe down with a damp cloth while my MTB gets washed after every ride which isn't more than a light spray from garden hose with hose rinse of chain links and after it's drip dried I run the chain through a dry cloth squeezing in my hands with lube done night before a ride. I find washing my bike somewhat therapeutic plus I get to check any issues and I know I'm 100% not overwashing bearings or the chain. That's just me but I have a family member who could easily afford even daily bike washes who also prefers to wash his and the Missus bike.
  20. I saw somewhere that its considered an "adverse"result and gets treated differently....is that correct? Will they test a B sample?
  21. Don't bother with the Wahoo belt....probably worse. I've had 2 go bad.
  22. Is it me or is the pin that prevents the chain dropping behind the crank in the wrong place?
  23. My brother once opened a 9S Shimano shifter and it was waaaay complicated. Had to buy a new shifter... 😃
  24. Yip my 10S Ultegra was badly frayed in the same place....
  25. Yip that's what I tried but it didn't adhere. Its crazy to scrap a usesble tyre for just one cut.
