  1. Yes does sound like it will be the 2016 route. Normally K'Dorp hill breaks up the bunches before hitting Sterkies descent. Hope previous posters were right about road surface there as rain over last couple of days can't have helped
  2. Wat's hierdie goeters?
  3. Let me start by saying I do always wear my helmet when riding in SA as I would not want to incur the wrath of the Hub. However, I hail from Holland and there bikes tend to be used for commuting rather than sport and basically no-one is wearing helmets (and neither do I when I go back). If you rent a bike, no helmet is supplied with it either. So you would think that Holland has a much higher occurrence of serious damage to heads due to bike crashes (as opposed to visiting coffee shops). However, some universities have done some research and this is not the case. One can debate whether this is because the cycling infrastructure is much better and thus there are fewer accidents or commuting is at a slower pace or some other reason. It is sort of an interesting fact that in a country hailed as a cycling mecca, the vast majority of cyclists do not wear a lid
  4. I hail from Holland (came to SA 20 years or so ago) so can probably answer most of your questions. Happy for you to PM me In terms of the questions posted n the thread - Suggest you look for clubs / groups once you have arrived n A'Dam - For a commuter, I reckon the local stele Jezus bkes are the best. Would not buy something to expensive as the local attitude is that if a bike is parked on the street it is not being used as designed for and hence will be taken by someone else to ride
  5. Another option here is Ride in Café on the road to Jonkershoek. I rented a few bikes there when my mates from overseas came over and was well impressed with the fact that we got the latest stumpies and Cambers @ R450 for the day per bike
  6. What's the dream bike?
  7. Jealous
  8. Came across one of these beasts whilst hiking in the Waterberg with the family two years ago. It reared up about 1.5m off the ground and stared at my dog. Luckily our dopey city slicker Boerboel had no clue what was going on and when we slowly backed off, the snaket went down and slithered away in the bush. Reckon it was ~2.5m. Was a tad more alert on hikes thereafter Last year on the same farm, I bunny hopped over what I thought was a branch on the trail. Whilst flying over it, it moved and that’s when I realised it was a puffy. As Dale said, Africa is not for sissies
  9. Had bike for a while, wheels are new
  10. Double loop there always sorts the men from the boys.
  11. Reserve is SBR? Def agree that is a lekker place to ride.
  12. Cradle is the JHB equivalent. Everytime I venture out to other areas ariund town I realise how lucky I am to just ride to cradle from home
  13. Use the same excuse but have to admit I am liking the dirty side of riding more and more
  14. Do not want to rain on anyone's parade but these are 35% more expensive than the funky Versus socks and 65% more than their basic line (which I use. Hear the part around doing your bit for the underprivileged but not convinced the numbers stack up?
  15. Ringelmann is def an oracle
  16. Of which a quarter is dealt with in the 4.4km called Vrekpoort
  17. Received SMS with start number and starting time of 6.35 but does not say which batch I am in. Does anyone know what the batch start times are?
  18. Can you post a Strava file showing this route?
  19. Rode a white One10 in A batch there but did not see many others
  20. Baaie f&kken lekker. Well done to organisers
  21. Had a look on Strava and reckon the route will be similar to Trailseeker last year ocer similar distance. If true, it's flat and fast
  22. Also in for 60km and will pick up number tomorrow am. Have banked on being there an hour before the start. If that does not work, I'll just ride without a number (Strava will do the timing for me)
