  1. Am busy sorting out the stuff to take today, pack car tomorrow and off to Bots on Thurs. Anyone else in Hubland riding the event this year?
  2. As far as I know the shorter route does not include the monster itself?
  3. An this was just sommer standing there on its own in a park???? Clearly not SA
  4. Exkuus tog but I reckon the combination of rocky and loose does qualify as technical. I for one find that much harder to ride than drops etc on smooth surface. Do agree the 70km monster is a proper challenge. Biggest mindwarp to me are the energy sucking sandy and grassy patches after you have done the monster. Don't for a minute think you're done when you made it to the top
  5. Had the same issue at same spot with my 110. Pyga replaced the frame without a problem but still a bit miffed it cracked. Would love to tell stories about the 3m drops I do but fact is that my riding should be well within what the bike can withstand. Am making a habit of checking the frame after every ride now
  6. Nice, like a good response. Roadies are know for their love for longer socks but I actually find them useful on the trails as I find they protect area above the ankle from thorns and shrubs
  7. SHORT SOCK ALEEEERT!!!!!
  8. Results are up
  9. Walked that "road" a few years ago. TV does not do justice to how rough it is. Gaps between cobbles are 10cm+
  10. Waar is hierdie heuwel?
  11. Polka dot jersey on dirt?????
  12. Has Audi got something to do with this???
  13. Agree with that. Do understand from some organisers that they are expensive though?
  14. In fairness, sms's were sent out with the correct distance for both routes. Do think it was peculiar that road markings still said 102 given ASG clearly knew that was wrong. Judging by their seeding system, numerical stuff is not one of ASG' s stronger points
  15. Can see finishing times on Racetec app so would seem they were working fine
  16. Yes does sound like it will be the 2016 route. Normally K'Dorp hill breaks up the bunches before hitting Sterkies descent. Hope previous posters were right about road surface there as rain over last couple of days can't have helped
  17. Wat's hierdie goeters?
  18. Let me start by saying I do always wear my helmet when riding in SA as I would not want to incur the wrath of the Hub. However, I hail from Holland and there bikes tend to be used for commuting rather than sport and basically no-one is wearing helmets (and neither do I when I go back). If you rent a bike, no helmet is supplied with it either. So you would think that Holland has a much higher occurrence of serious damage to heads due to bike crashes (as opposed to visiting coffee shops). However, some universities have done some research and this is not the case. One can debate whether this is because the cycling infrastructure is much better and thus there are fewer accidents or commuting is at a slower pace or some other reason. It is sort of an interesting fact that in a country hailed as a cycling mecca, the vast majority of cyclists do not wear a lid
  19. I hail from Holland (came to SA 20 years or so ago) so can probably answer most of your questions. Happy for you to PM me In terms of the questions posted n the thread - Suggest you look for clubs / groups once you have arrived n A'Dam - For a commuter, I reckon the local stele Jezus bkes are the best. Would not buy something to expensive as the local attitude is that if a bike is parked on the street it is not being used as designed for and hence will be taken by someone else to ride
  20. Another option here is Ride in Café on the road to Jonkershoek. I rented a few bikes there when my mates from overseas came over and was well impressed with the fact that we got the latest stumpies and Cambers @ R450 for the day per bike
  21. What's the dream bike?
  22. Jealous
  23. Came across one of these beasts whilst hiking in the Waterberg with the family two years ago. It reared up about 1.5m off the ground and stared at my dog. Luckily our dopey city slicker Boerboel had no clue what was going on and when we slowly backed off, the snaket went down and slithered away in the bush. Reckon it was ~2.5m. Was a tad more alert on hikes thereafter Last year on the same farm, I bunny hopped over what I thought was a branch on the trail. Whilst flying over it, it moved and that’s when I realised it was a puffy. As Dale said, Africa is not for sissies
