  1. Nope the easy part is the 5km's on gravel the "fun bit" is the last 6kms on tar. I always says if a climb tarred or laid with concrete then you must know what is waiting for you.
  2. Alternatively stick to the current gearing so you can get the "full experience of going to the Gallows" 😈 I mean just look at Donovan & Dan's faces after crossing the line last year wouldn't you also want that experience?
  3. Dude you have no idea, 52T for sure, I thought the hints were obvious in the promo videos (⚰️ ☠️ ) on the gram. You are literally going to question your life choices up that final climb. No exaggeration.
  4. Another test is Tokai Mast which I see the okes are doing soon. That is not nearly as steep as Galgeberg but it will give you a good idea how much walking you will be doing.
  5. what gearing do you have for the last climb?
  6. Recovering from Cape Epic, Sick, Racing abroad, but constraints, etc.
  7. Thanks Bru. Reality is I'm not a podium contender at IM in my age cat i.e. 40-44. They are the most competitive bunch. My swim sucks so I knew it was always going to be just a finishers medal hence I threw the kitchen sink at 2 Oceans.
  8. Talking about 2 Oceans in the legs, I went from 4:13/km for Ultra to a 5:31/km for IM Run Leg, Ouch!!!! But I was expecting it.
  9. nah no pics I was chasing daylight and was on my road bike so couldn't even use the off-road trail next to the road. Which tells me there is more I didnt even see.
  10. Just got back from a ride over Constantia Nek, went searching for my legs. The amount of empty gel packet litter is unbelievable. if I say +100 it is no exaggeration.
  11. Well Done. Maurten was my nutrition on the day again. 160 Carb drink before bed the night before, 320 carb drink & bar for breakfast. Planned to Race on 8 Maurten Gels 4 normal & 4 caffeine. 1st one at 5kms then a gel every 6kms alternating between the 2, but I lost one normal gel in the dark while messing with my nutrition belt on the go. So the later feeds got spread out to every 7-8kms. Just grabbed a cup of water from the tables until the last 2-3 water points I started taking coke & powerade.
  12. Thanks Guys. I feel like I was more a 4:30 on the day runner, but I like a challenge so I jumped on the Sub 4 Bus. It was hard and I was probably breathing the loudest out of everyone in the bus. A surprisingly small group no bigger than 15-20 runners at any given time. We would regularly pick up & drop off guys along the way. All the splits we were ahead by a few seconds to a couple of minutes. I was surprised at how well I could hang with the group going up Chappies, I ran it for the first time 2 weeks before in training so knew it well, although I've cycled it a million times running hits differently. While ascending & descending I already noticed guys in dribs and drabs were pulling away from us at will but I stuck to the bus as I was in unknown territory in terms of distance, elevation & the pace up until that point. As we hit the stretch between bottom of Chappies & 1st Hout Bay Circle I checked the time & noticed we were not going to make the 42.2km split of 2:56, that's is when I also decided to get off the bus and went solo for the next 14-16kms. In hindsight my Garmin was ahead on distance so I panicked a bit too early but still happy with the choice I made as the Pace Setter himself missed the Sub 4 & came in at 4:01. If I had stuck with the bus I surely would've also missed the goal as I would've been running at a more comfortable pace for the last +-6kms. Longest Distance, 1st Ultra Marathon, Sub 4 & Silver Medal in the process.
  13. Unlucky man, that head wind was brutal followed by an oh so welcoming tailwind from Kalk Bay onwards.
  14. Please define “coaching empire” ?
  15. Maurten Gels for the win, purely because I tried them for the 1st time at CTM last year, picked it up the day before at the Registration Expo, no GI issues on the day.
  16. Eurosport if DSTV is not broadcasting any cycling.
  17. So a little birdie whispered that if the wind doesnt settle down then Ou Kaapse Weg route may become a reality. I sincerely hope not.
  18. you forgot the small little detail of full IM the very next weekend 🥴
  19. Will be my 1st Ultra, will also be the 1st time I run longer than last years Cape Town Marathon, so I'm heading into unchartered territory here. Managed to run Chapmans Peak Drive Up & down from both sides last week. I'll be happy with Sub 5, anything less will be a bonus.
  20. First wait for the damage report after the next couple of days rain & wind. I would imagine lots of trees were uprooted already from all the images & videos doing the rounds on Social media.
  21. Not this one but a different iptv provider, no issues for more than 12 months now. Some IPTV's are geo-blocked by some ISP's, so just do your homework properly first.
  22. I suck at swimming so I can’t smash IM, will rather take in the experience and atmosphere there. But no way I can maintain 4:00 to 4:10 on 2Oceans route with all that elevation it’s just insane. I’ll have to convert to purely just running.
  23. Hahaha not a chance. Thanks for the vote of confidence though but I need to keep something in the tank for IM the following weekend. I think 4:30 is a good goal, worst case scenario Sub 5 would also be respectable.
  24. Anyone familiar with the pace setters at 2 Oceans Ultra, what are the various speed options? at CTM I could only see up to 3:30 and slower busses.
