  1. Blue Monster

    Argus 2014

I have a 22.04 index from my Rand Water Race For Victory last year. I an in F. Can't say that I am unhappy.
  2. Managed a 3:12 from a B start. Hillsnax was tough, and my first time up there. I seem to have managed to stay with the second B group, only to be dropped at the Lion Park. The short route riders and the regular riders made it interesting to say the least. The last 10kms were hell. Was caught by the lead C group riders just as I crossed over the N14. Had nothing left in the legs to even stay with them to the finish. This racing every weekend really hammers you
  3. Thanks for the advice. Looks like I will drop back to BL, and hope to stay at least in the middle of the group up to 9kms. Then either keep with them and possible pick up some dropped AL riders. Hope the finish is not like the D2D. After last weekends fun , I hope I will still be strong enough for a sub 3.
  4. How hard do the open seeded groups go up the first climb? Is it all out and suffer he rest of the ride, or let's make it to the end? AL start for me, but after last weekend, I think I would be better off in BL.
  5. I was in the crash and rode with you guys at the back of your group. Girl on Bianchi was amazing. All I could do was hang on, arm bleeding and body sore. Front wheel buckled. Brakes rubbed even with the wheel release activated. Still managed to finish with a 3.01. Seven stitches later, and I will be back next weekend. Wife not to thrilled, but what can we do.
  6. Thanks Does anyone know how many open seeded start groups there are?
  7. Anyone have a Garmin or Starva for this race?
  8. I am going to take it easy till Jan 2014. SBR 1st Saturday after holiday.
  9. I fully agree. I started riding a year ago, after not riding a kike for 30 years. Trained hard from January this year. Cadence classes twice a week, cradle rides twice a week and pilates & gym thrown in there. I have never been an athlete. My lack of co-ord made that possible I did five or six Suikerbosrand loops leading up to 94.7, and most of the guys I know at Cadence thought I would burn out before 94.7. I also managed to go from 84.7kg down to 74.5 kg for this race over the past 12 months. I also did as many races as possible to get a good seeding. I eventually got re-seeded in H. I also did the Kremetart stage race after only riding for just over 6 months. I was definitely not fit enough, but I finished and had a great time. WE booked accommodation on the way home for 2014. My sub 3 was somewhat of a personal triumph. I now realise that I do have some athletic ability. It is just up to me to make use of it. I am also lucky enough to have the support of my wife for all the time spent away from home. I also don't have any kids which makes it easier. I take my hat off to anyone who takes on the challenge to race, and the fact that they try, is a great start
  10. One of the fundamentals of road racing/riding is that it is a team sport. A sub 3 is a sub 3 is a sub 3, in a bunch or not. If you want to measure yourself against others evenly, do a TT. Otherwise enjoy the ride and chase for your PB. We all need to remember, that for some a sub 4 or 5 is equally as satisfying, if you have put in the training. Let the flaming begin
  11. What a great day. My first big race, and the music & cheering & support was great. Thanks to Joburg for coming out to support everyone. I came in in 2.53. Sat on my Edge 510 the whole way with a 2.59 profile, and kept checking the Virtual Racer. I can definitely say that the virtual racer got me to the finish in under 3 hours.
  12. Those of you riding there for the next few weeks, beware of cyclists going the wrong way round. Nearly had an incident while overtaking a MTB, when suddenly two bikes approach, riding abreast. For the just over two hours that I was there, I saw about 8 to 10 cyclists riding the wrong way round. Be aware and have fun.
  13. I got my official email from them yesterday, with my new H start, and no money due. Great news.
  14. I started in Feb 2013 with a power to weight of 2.25 W/kg and was tested last week with a power to weight of 3.22 W/kg, based on FTP. Ok, my maths was a little out, it was only a 43%. Has made me so much stronger on the bike. Have done a 3.31 race for victory and am aiming for a sub 3 94.7. All this from only starting to train in Jan 2013. I only got on a bike in September 2012 for the first time in 30 years. I cant wait to see what will happen with another full year of training.
  15. I have been with http://www.cadencecycling.co.za/ since March this year. Did FTP test last week, and power to weight up by 47%. Highly recommended. Has made my cycling/training very efficient.
  16. I went into the current Fourways store about a week back, looking for Assos chamois cream. None in stock. Salesman said he could order it, and it would arrive in 7 to 10 days. If that is your lead time, you should have ordered it sooner!
  17. OK I just phoned cyclechallenge, to query the email, and got good news. Error on email. New seeding in H. Now to push for that sub 3.
  18. I just received the response to my email from cyclechallenge. I now move from M to P I should have just kept my mouth shut.
  19. How many of you guys have been informed of your success(or not) of being re-seeded? I have received an email saying that it is under consideration, then one saying I will get a call later that day. Three days later, still no news.
  20. I stay in the fourways area. I can help you with directions if needed. I would look at going out at around 6am.
  21. I will be doing a 30km or so slow ride, from either the rhino park or sterkfontein caves. Not much climbing, just to warm the legs. You are welcome to join me for an early start.
  22. Has anyone had any feedback for a request for a re-seed? Anyone know how long it would take? Thanks
  23. I usually start walking at about 48 to 49 km, from the car park. Have been managed 2:40 & 2.:38 on the two visits. Wind on Saturday was also relentless. Possibly the best training ground available in Gauteng.
  24. I have been to SBR the last two weekends. 1st weekend had a Jackal run out in front of me on the last 10km return loop. Boy could he run. What an amazing place to train. If only the people that arrive early could give the guards a break, the gates only open at 7am. It is their job. They are helpful and friendly. Now if I could only make it up the last bad hill before the double lane, without walking, that would be an achievement
  25. According to entry confirmation form, re-seeding deadline is 16 October 2013. Don't wait till week before.
