  1. I am really interested in the 50 miler. But not having done one before the logistics confuse me. Not a lot of info on the 50 miler. How tough is it etc. Would love to do it, but a bit cautious.
  2. Not all of us. I want my rear suspension as hard as possible when climbing, my brain on my Epic is set to hardest. I hate pedal bob. Different strokes hey.
  3. If I may ask, why do you decide to host your event the same time as Wacky wine? Do you hope to attract people going to the festival, or is there another reason. A lot of us hubbers make a weekend of the further races, Greyton, Grabouw, etc etc. Unfortunately during the festival accommadation is nowhere to be found. I am in no way trying to criticize the event. I am just wondering. My weekend freed up, so I will be attending this year.
  4. Unfortunately its only insured against theft, or if its damaged while being transported to the venue. Otherwise my premiums are waaay to high. I own 3 bikes. Baked beans and toast for me.
  5. My repair bill is a few cents short of R4000. Lots of broken parts. Ad the entry fee for the race, and other expenses, eish. June is going to be a long month, no more wet races for me. To be fair I am going from XT to XO rear derailer, quite a bit more expensive.
  6. Did not say it was the most boring race ever, I did not enjoy it. Glad you guys enjoyed it.
  7. This was the most boring race in a long long time. Besides the Mercs running away with it, nothing exciting. F1 has lost the plot.
  8. I would like to earn them thanks. Its a personal thing, dont be a dick about it.
  9. Plenty of them, all of them in fact.
  10. Different strokes. Some of us collect them.
  11. I agree with you 100 percent. I am not doing the event this year. I had 2 incidents last year with drunk drivers, I vowed to not place myself and loved ones at risk this year.
  12. I wish I knew, really. Strangest thing is it happened just after I peaked the big climb. Was not even pedalling, just going downhill. Somehow the rear derailer went into the rear wheel. Serious damage was caused. I had a lot of mud on my tyres and frame. Somehow I was unlucky.
  13. Yes please. That would be fricken awsome.
  14. I also have a clutch derailer on my bike. Turns out my derailer is broke, my cassette is damaged, 2 spokes on the rim are bent, and my frame is damaged. Fun day out.
  15. Unfortunately not much left of it, bent and absolutely destroyed. Went into the rear wheel. Besides the financial loss, I was quite sad not to finish the race, especially since it happened after all the climbs were done, and mostly downhills were left. But thanks for the advice.
  16. Luckily for me it never gives problems. Maybe I am unlucky, but 2 derailers in 3 months seems wrong to me. New one has done maybe 200km. Last one 500 if that.
  17. I rode my practice bike today. Believe it or not, Specialized spec it with many different parts. The only part on the bike that was shitmano, was the rear derailer. And it broke. My favourite bike has full XO groupset, never ever any issues. This is the second time my derailer broke on my Stumpjumper. Guess what I am replacing it with. Xo for sure.
  18. Aaah, I stood next to you at the start. You were on a Scott, riding with a guy on a Giant. We rode together most of the way, till my mechanical.
  19. Awsome dude. You were so helpfull, and really wanted to help me. Thanks for that. I could barely push my bike, cause the chain and derailer was in the back wheel. I was quite pissed off that the oke in the bakkie, doing nothing, told me to walk further.
  20. Did you have the silver bike? Riding with your girlfriend.
  21. I was having such a strong race, I dont know how my rear derailer ended up in my rear wheel. Oh well. You should have seen the recovery vehicle, it was full of broken bikes, it had to do multiple trips.
  22. It was by far the muddiest race I have ever done. The singletrack was absolutely unrideable, was just mud and clay everywhere. I did about 18 km and then my rear derailer broke off from all the mud. Had to push my bike 5km to the nearest waterpoint. Some negatives from my side, registration was a mess, queing for 15 minutes in the rain to collect a number board. And like I said, the race should have seeding, starting everyone at once was an absolute disaster. I should have stayed in bed. The worst thing was, after walking for about 3km, I encounter a marshall with a bakkie, he doesnt give me a lift or anything, he tells me to walk another 3km to the waterpoint, in the rain and mud, with a rear derailer hanging on the ground. Very bad.
  23. Not raining at the moment. But we had massive amounts of rain overnight and this morning. The area where I work is pretty wet and standing water everywhere. Doesnt matter, we are all gonna ride anyway, and we will get wet and dirty. Love it.
  24. Also doing the 35km. Pretty wet here in Paarl and Wellington guys. Leaving my new bike at home for this race and taking my cheapie. Also not keen on a huge repair bill come Monday.
  25. They sent out emails today with all the info. 65km starts 8h00. Leliefontein farm, Wellington. Not the same venue as last year.
