  1. There was a shop near the old Lion Match factory that used to hire out cheap road bikes. I cant recall their name but remember that they were affiliated to Cyclesphere in Morningside. Perhaps try contacting them.
  2. I've got a 6 year old Golf 6 GTI. 140000km and no major issues. The car is only as reliable as the maintenance and care
  3. Seems I'm being robbed. I was told that it is no longer available for reward based on the price increase. Had to settle for a peanut butter blast or whatever it is. Sucked.
  4. You cannot get a peanut butter bomb using rewards any more Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
  5. It seems to range. Can be anywhere between 50-150 I would guess.
  6. Sadly I could not complete the ride. Lost a spoke and had to nurse a wobbly wheel home.
  7. The last kit I could find via Google was a 2007 one. Similar colouring but different sponsors. I dont mind if it is old kit, as long as it is comfy and will last a year at least.
  8. 1 of my kits is a Mr Price special. Surely a good knockoff must be better than that at least.
  9. A friend of mine selling the kit for R280. I am going by tonight to look at it and fit it. He is a more of a noob to cycling than me, I am not sure why it is so cheap for the kit (top and shorts). He says a friend bought it online for him and it is too big. Any input on this kit? Googling didnt help me much. It looks like the current kit, but doesnt have the same branding on the back (I only have a back pic). It has "Enjoy life, Enjoy Cycling" on the back pockets. I really don't know if this is a knockoff or what. But at R280 for a kit I think it is worth a look (I currently have 2 sets of proper riding gear)
  10. Durban vs Cape Town CBD is very different. That is what I loved about CT. Very much like a lot of other countries where the CBD is actually one of the better areas of the city. The area I moved to is close to the CBD, but a much better area. Also near Durban's equivalent of Long Street (Florida Road). I am also about 2km from the cycling circuit (a 5km loop that runs along the beach front and in front of the stadium) which is reserved for cyclists between 4 and 6:30 morning and night. You do get the idiots that dont know how to read road signs, but it is mostly ok to ride in. Great for base training.
  11. Dbn CBD is rough. Extremely dodgy. Probably one of the worst areas in Dbn crimewise.
  12. Walking the 3km in full formal gear would leave me wet. It is hot in Dbn
  13. Ummm no. I am not walking directly through Dbn CBD in a tie with a laptop bag. I drive. However, I do get up at 5am everyday and fit in 2 hours of a mix of running, weight training and riding before work. And another 1.5 hours after work a few times a week.
  14. I have just moved house and now live 3km from work. So commutting to work is simply not worth the effort of packing clothes and the like anymore. However, I now use my bike for all my other running around (shops, restuarants etc).
  15. Buying a phonw cash is a waste of money. My contract is R399 a month. Cash price of the phone is R9500. Works out cheaper over the 2 years on contract, without factoring in time value of money, and buying the phone cash still leaves you having to buy airtime.
  16. I hope I never have to replace the screen on my Z1. I went to the local china mall yesterday and the cost for the S2 screen is R1300. I dont think a 2 year old phone warrants such a costly repair. I may just buy myself a cheap R500 andriod phone to load strava.
  17. I used to keep my S2 either in my back shirt pocket, or in the top tube mounted bag, until last weekend when I fell on the side of the M4 and cracked the screen on my S2. I have not yet taken my Xperia Z1 for a ride. I think I am going to rather repair the S2 and use that phone for riding.
  18. Empty bottles.
  19. I asked this same question a few months ago. Apparently you just need the CSA licence to participate in races, unless you are chasing the podium.
  20. Supercars dont count. Even on that front all the other manufacturers blow toyota out the water. For example VW has Lambo, Porsche, Bugatti in the stable. Toyota has a single Lexus LFA. Every other toyota makes me fall asleep and drool on myself (except maybe the 86, but its still a donkey compared to competitors from other stables)
  21. And riding a more exciting bike than his cars too.
  22. My experience with collection was great. I did the Twitter Ride and after some free chow and beverages, I left my bike in my car (free parking outside Virgin Active) and went back into the Expo. Stood no longer than 5 minutes in the VV line. Took a walk through the Expo, and got a few things I needed (floor pump, energy bars) and perused a bit. Left after about 30minutes. Wasnt much traffic leaving the area. Given the large number of entrants and logistical nightmare it must be, I must commend the organisers of the event on a good job.
  23. Yoh! What a day I enjoyed the route of the race. Definitely a tougher route than Amashova, although the climbing is not as much. I managed a 4:31 (was hoping for sub 4), but i am happy considering I started at 10:09. Experienced quite a few delays in the race. Had 2 punctures around 30km in, and all riders were stopped en route for a few minutes while they landed a helicopter to airlift a rider. I also needed to stop at almost every water table in the 2nd half of the route as it was just so damn hot. I was told that temps peaked at 39 degrees. I think the event was pretty well managed, given the magnitude of the event. I wasnt too happy having to ride 5+km from my car to the start, but served as a warm up. My only issue is the Momentum watering stations. There was way too much congestion at every one of these, and I even had to stop and unclip at 2 of them, even though I wasnt stopping, because there was no way to ride right through. It wasnt neccessary to have the stage across from the watering tables, narrowing the road. I had some fun trying to locate my car afterwards, as I no nothing about Jhb. after asking a few locals I eventually found my car, 7km later. I would do this race again, if I have a decent start time. Cant ride in the baking sun again. I am looking like my black kit that i wore on the day.
  24. I fear I will have nightmares of the N14 both prior and after Sunday, from what I read. Are there any hills on the Amashova route that closely resemble that of the M14? Will just pace myself and not try ride beyond my ability and fitness.
  25. Well all I got from Shova was a Hollard waterbottle. Tour Durban was a T shirt, Engen race was nothing. So how bad can they be?
