  1. Hi there I recently bought the Park tool grease gun and needed a place for it. I made this little hanger and thought someone else might find it useful.
  2. I had the same issue. When I removed the cassette the hub fell apart in my hands. Cleaned it all, re lube and tighten the hub correctly. That helped a lot. My cranks were not at the correct torque and were creaking on the axle. Remove clean and torque fixed that. Remove clean and re install all pivot bearings, re torque everything. Pull your derailed hanger and grease that interface as well. The chain contacts the frame protector when in the 10 tooth so may emit a sound. I have the SI carbon 2 with the SRAM 10/ 42. I bought both parktool torque wrenches that I need to work on the bike and I can only recommend the investment. Once correctly assembled the bike is quick and quite comfortable. Note the cannondale tech bulletin calls for the bearings to be installed with a retaining compound rather than grease.
  3. Good evening all Thanks for the replies, if I may clear up a few misconceptions. I am not racing 12 year olds, I am not racing at all. If I was racing, it would be in marathon events and against my age group. The races we ride in are open events and all categories are mixed in all batches, your individual time determines your position within your age group and distance event. We have done many events together, from when he was wobbling along and I could run the 10K course with him, right up to now when he is doing the 25k events at just over an hour. It has been such a privilege to watch the progression and to see ones experience and advice applied by a young rider. I am trying to make sport a way of life for my boys, we spend a lot of time talking about nutrition and event preparation, checking kit and the mental aspect of racing and training. When it comes to race day I have a lot of experience to pass on and its best done under race conditions. There is a lot I wish other adult cyclists had learnt such as when to pull over in single track and how to do it, thank someone who has pulled over for you, thank the marshals on the course, how to make sense of the route markers and to use your head when you have missed a turn. I am trying to teach him all of these things and more. I asked him what he thought about the chance that he may loose his next trophy should he qualify to get one and he was not very concerned about it, Id rather ride with you Dad was his reply. I will try to get a clarification from CSA tomorrow. Rules are rules and I will follow them to the letter. Thanks again Ryan
  4. Morning all. Please help with a situation that has arisen. I am a competitive cyclist but I have taken this season to race with my 12 year old on the local 25k courses. One has to learn to race and my lad is keen to have a good go. We ride in the Zululand area and in some remote places at times. At the last race we attended we started in A batch and had a good race. I don't touch him, push him up hills, in short I provide no physical assistance. If his chain breaks I will fix it for him though. When we finished, the race overseer informed me that I have to ride with a 5 minute gap between me, and my child competing in a race caregory. I told her I provide no assistance to him which the lady said it is in the rules and it's because I can add a mental advantage, I do agree on the mental advantage of being continually coached during a race, but watch any grand tour and all the riders have earpieces. What's the difference. My primary concern is that he goes off course and gets lost. This happens to adults at every event we attend. At my sons pace he is covering about 1.2 km in 5 mins. That's way to to dangerous as once he is off course he is lost. I have spoken to other parents involved and they agree with me that it's not safe to have the kids ride on their own. I have read the UCI rules on MTB and can see nothing referring to a 5 minute gap. I would appreciate any info anyone may have regarding this issue. I am trying to encourage a young rider, for him to win his race and then have his trophy taken away will do the opposite. Thanks Ryan.

    Sani Pass

Looking forward to this one. Booked to ride it mid August.
  6. You don't need a blow torch. I have used a heat gun before. Gently warm up the crank, assuming it's Al and ensure you are removing the axle in the correct direction to undo it. Prior to heating it I would have soaked the part in penetrating oil. I would use a breaker bar with the correct socket rather than an Allan key with a pipe on it. The reason is that with the warmed crank in a padded vice, as you put pressure on the breaker bar you can firmly tap the head of the breaker bar so as to shock the threads. When you put your new pedals in please use copper slip, it is an anti sieze compound that will prevent just this issue
  7. Discovery med aid. No issues. Momentum life cover. Recently joined Multiply and frustrated. Went for the health assessment at Dischem, every reading in the green but the nurse did a typo and entered me as a smoker. I have never smoked in my life. I cannot get it changed and now my heart score is amber which bugs me. I have contacted the nurse. She has sent me a corrected submission, I have mailed Multiply. My broker has been on to them. Still no correction after two weeks. I have also found that my active days calendar is not giving me every active day I generate. My garmin account shows my training and multiply is showing about 30% less active days than I should have. I am thinking of telling them to stick it.
  8. Here we go. I used an old sash clamp from woodworking, a Pipe clamp will work as well. to make the part that clamps the seat post I used 38 mm steel tubing, just section it lengthways. Line it with heavy duty dirtbike inner tube as pictured above.
  9. My Queue this morning. Bent hanger on the little flash. Its a 26er small, my sons bike. The SI has a creaking BB. Anyhow the work stand has been a revelation to me, buy one, make one either way it will make working on your bikes a pleasure.
  10. Ping driver and woods Taylormade irons Titelest vokey wedges Ping putter Srixon gloves FJ shoes Nike balls. Ha ha. Happy Friday lads
  11. Have a look at how thick the rubber is on a dirt bike heavy duty tube. This is what I used on my diy stand.
  12. Go to a dirt bike shop and ask them for a blown heavy duty inner tube from a dirt bike. Cut strips and line your vise with that. Will post an image later on.
  13. My new bike has a rear axle so perhaps I should upgrade to a trainer!
  14. I am surprised that I am the only chap that's posted rollers on this thread, I spend hours on them over summer here in KZN and ride outdoors on the winter! Does any one else use rollers out there.

    MTB on a IDT

Rollers for the MTB is a good option. I spend many hours on mine during summer
  16. Planning on this one in 2018. Please keep the entry reasonable.
  17. I am over 40 so trial and error over the years and then tweaked by your literature, thanks for your confirmation I understood it correctly. It works well for me. Thanks again Ryan.
  18. I too am a fan of the Cadence Carbo fuel. If I am going near three hours or over on the MTB I will mix the first bottle with the cadence drink that contains protein. I will also eat my USN energy oats bar within the first two hours. The second and third bottles will be carbofuel. As an answer to the OP: I decided some time back never to use anything but water in my pack as the bladder is a mission to clean well. I have not used a pack in over three years now and get by with two bottles on the bike. I doubt I will ever use the pack again.
  19. I train alone. I am completely comfortable alone and have no issues motivating myself. I despise riding with groups that start late, need to stop every 10k to make a call and eat something. I am the quiet guy at the braai with my 1,5litre of water and two skinless chicken breasts.
  20. Had the carbon 3 on order but cannot fit the 36. Changed order to carbon 2 so as to get the SRAM cassette which will give me the top end I want with a 34T. No stock until the new year. I see the prices have dropped as well, let's hope the new shipment has the same selling price.
  21. Thanks for the perspective Dale. It's a new Cannondale, it's going to be great.
  22. Thanks guys. I have decided to run a 34t oval with the shimano 11/46. I hope I warm to this bike as I am expecting not to like it. Strange I know, but I wanted a hardtail to replace my flash, Dificult to get so I reluctantly agreed to go the dual sus route, now I expect not to like the gearing as I wanted a 36 to run the shimano, but have to settle for the 34. I am going to run the shimano and if I don't like it I will have to convert to SRAM and run a 10/42 with a 34 oval. Sorry for the moan, just frustrating having to compromise.
  23. Guys I need some input please. My carbon 3 is standing at my LBS. I want a 36 chainring for it with the 11/46 that's on the bike. Apparently the oval chainring will not work on the bike due to frame clearance issues as the ring is to wide. Next is to source a 36 round with the cannondale direct mount, any ideas as we are coming up blank. Wolf tooth make a camo system but I have to order in from the states. My last option is to change to SRAM 10/42 and run a 34 chainring. Any ideas please?
  24. I love that climb. Start at cascades, up Montgomery dr through Hilton until the Bridge over the N2. Bit further and you drop into the grace college trails. Love that ride.
