  1. Thats what I did.
  2. I recently bought a helmet and had a budget of R1000. I tried on a few Bell's and Giro's and even the Fox one mentioned earlier. Then I was shown a black and grey Merida Locwell helmet and tried that on. Wow! It was so comfortable and has great vents. Best of all it only cost me R450. Below is a picture from the CWC Cycles webpage. http://www.cwcycles.co.za/images/Helmets/Merida/helmets.jpg
  3. The GT Zaskar is a legend. I have lusted after one ever since I got into cycling in the mid 90's. I finally got me a Zaskar Expert a few months ago and it is pure bliss. If the bike is only R2000 and is even in moderatly good condition I wouldn't hesitate (Assuming it is the right size). I think a new GT Zaskar Expert (Bottom of the Zaskar Range) is in the 12-15K price range.
  4. I have only recently started mountain biking again after taking a break for a few years and to me it seems like madness to put the same tire on front and back. Guess I need to get used to it though. I can remember in the 90's all the best tyres were front and back specific and you bought them in sets. I am thinking of: IRC Mythos WTB Velociraptor Panaracer Fire XC (Think that was the name. Could be wrong though)
  5. What about a white frame? Even better than orange.
  6. Haha. There is a white plastic garden chair in the background of one of the pics. Is that not good enough? As for pictures of the GF. You lot are not getting anything, I know what you are like.
  7. A book of sorts, I have no idea what it is. She reads them to quickly for me to keep track.
  8. It would have looked really sick with a orange frame!!! I give you 10 points for trying to be unique, even though I don't think the colors work, as long as you are happy with it. Thats what counts.
  9. I recently upgraded from my old 2000 model Trek 7000 and my girlfriend has been hinting that she would like my old Trek to come on the occasional ride with me. Seeing as the old Trek is a little to big for her and I had a "Nomad" (Bet you guys have never heard of that brand before) dirt jump frame that was unused I decided to build the parts over onto that so it could double as a play bike for me. What do you think? I love the way the cables are routed through the gussets. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/stuartfleming/Bike%202/P1.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/stuartfleming/Bike%202/P2.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/stuartfleming/Bike%202/P3.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/stuartfleming/Bike%202/P4.jpg
  10. Quick question. In the second picture, what is holding the bike up? The back wheel doesn't appear to be leaning against the wall.
  11. Very, very cool.
  12. I was in China in 2001 and found this shop. It's about the size of a double garage. I bought the yellow and red frame that you see on the right for R500. Its called a Nomad and makes a awesome play bike. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/stuartfleming/F1020014.jpg
  13. I think you are looking at this from the wrong angle. I would never buy a bike based on what groupset it has on. I buy a bike base on the following: Frame, Fork, Wheels, and then only look at groupset. BTW: I ride a 08 Zaskar Expert which only has LX but is a awesome ride thanks to its great great frame and RS Reba fork. I hardly notice I only have LX components and as they wearout I can easily upgrade.

Wheni t come to full suspension bikes I am funny. The bike has to look "right" for me to like it. For example, I hate the Giant bikes because I think they dont look "right" even though I know they ride fantastically. On the other hand I love Kona bikes even though I dont think their suspension designs are very efficient. To me this bike just doesn't look right. I wouldn't buy one.
  15. I am gonna take a guess here. I know nothing about jumping and am too old (read:scared) to attempt it. The way I see it you should be standing on the pedals the whole time while jumping. The only time your butt might touch the saddle would be when your body moves downwards absorbing the impact of a big landing. These are normally on a steep downwards slope like the back end of a table top. This would put the saddle in a more level position. I could be completely wrong though. Just a guess.
  16. Hi everyone I have a old Rock Shox Judy XC that came on my Trek 7000 (2000 year model) with 63mm travel. When I bought the bike Rock Shox had a fork called a Judy 100 which was basically the same fork but had 100mm of travel. There was also a kit that enabled you to extend the travel of the XC model to 80 or 100mm. Does anyone know if it is still possible to do this conversion or get this kit? Or failing that does any one have a old long travel Judy from that period that might have working internals that I could buy to do the mod. I have stripped the fork and the stanchions and bushes are definitely long enough to do the job. Internally it uses coil springs in each leg with "Hydracoil" Damping.
