  1. Why wait till you get a puncture to know if it works. I made my own sealant and the first thing I did after filling my tires was stick a large needle into the tyre to check if it worked and it did. No problems.
  2. My thoughts exactly.
  3. Whoa, those tyres are big. Looks like fun.
  4. I know that feeling. When I was a teenager in the mid 90's I had 2 bike highjacked off me on my way to school.
  5. Update: KCNC Jockey Wheels: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/stuartfleming/P6-1.jpg Aerozine BB: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/stuartfleming/P7-1.jpg
  6. I am not a fan of the KCNC skewers. I dont like the look of the little round bar shaped levers. Gonna be ordering a set of skewers soon as well as a seat collar. would also like to get some Gold Hope Pro 2 hubs some time in the future. The bike is no where near finished. Gonna look at the Aerozine website now to check the cranks. Any idea how much? The bar end caps I bought secondhand from XTC OKE. Not sure what brand they are.
  7. I have seen that one. There is a I-Drive one as well. Its beautiful but would hate to know what it would cost if you could buy one. So far my bike has cost me less than 8k.
  8. Haha, I remember how you ride Bos. I am actually building up quite a basket of things from CRC so I will probably get them there. Every bit helps get to the magic mark of free transport. Let me know if you wanna make a group order. So far my basket is about R2000. Never ordered from them before but heard a lot of good things on this forum so I wanna give it a try. 9. I really don't wanna spend double if the clipping in and out is gonna feel the same. If the only difference is the bearings then I will definitely go for the 520's. I dont ride in the wet a lot and am not afraid to open them up to clean out the bearings and grease em every now and again if that is the only difference.
  10. I need to replace my 12 year old shimano SPD pedals and wanna stay with Shimano. I have looked at CRC and they have the following: M520 for R350 M540 for R600 M770 for R690 As far as I can see all these pedals look exacly the same except for the bearing assemblies and as a result the weight, and that doesnt vary by that much. Only 30g between the M520 and the other two. Is there any reason why one should choose the more expensive ones over the M520?
  11. People rode v-brakes and cantilever brakes for years and never had problems with rims heating up to the point that the tire explodes. What can happen is that the braking surface on the rim wears thinner with use and eventually gets too thin/weak to hold the tire pressure and the tire "explodes" off, ripping the braking surface on the rim apart. This doesnt happen often though, you really need to ride hard in muddy conditions alot for this to happen and even then you can easily tell when the rim needs replacing long befor it gets this bad.
  12. I am one of the very few Olympus fans and use a Oly E510. Their cameras use what they call the 4/3rds system which has a lot of advantages over the the APC sensor based cameras. -The bodies are generally smaller, -Lenses are smaller (for the same 35mm equiv focal length) -Oly has probably the best sensor cleaning system -Pictures taken in portrait are generally more pleasing due to the aspect ratio. APC cameras generally give very narrow portrait pics. The only major problem with Oly cameras is noise at high ISO settings and the second hand market for lenses is quite small. If I were buying a new camera now I would look at a Oly E30, not sure what one costs though.
  13. Hi Guys. Sorry if this has been asked before. I did a search and came up with nothing. My chain and cassette are shot and need replacing. What I want to know is whats the difference between a LX, XT and XTR chain, besides price? Is it worth spending the extra money on a XTR one? Will it last longer? Same goes for the cassette? I can see how the more expensive ones will be lighter as they have a aluminium frame and less steel but is there any performance benefit? What about the SRAM stuff? Currently I have all Shimano LX parts on my bike. Is it worth looking at SRAM chains and cassettes?
  14. Yup, I am in PE.
  15. Hi Guys A few pics of my ride. I call it the Gangster Zaskar because of the colour scheme I have chosen. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/stuartfleming/P1-2.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/stuartfleming/P5-1.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/stuartfleming/P2-2.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/stuartfleming/P3-2.jpg
  16. I have a nokia N79 (without the HRM strap) and use sportstracker. It is awesome. It gives you so much information back. I am definitely gonna look at getting the HRM strap for it.
  17. When I am going uphill I always yield to guys coming down. Sure it is a little harder to get going again but the uphill is unpleasant as it is so having to stop once or twice isnt going to ruin my day. Gives me a chance to rest anyway. On the flip side, having to stop on the downhills really does spoil the fun. You did all the hard work getting up only to have to keep stopping for other riders. Obviously in areas where the track is really narrow and there is little space, both riders need to slow down to make allowances to get around each other. Fortunately the trails in PE are not very congested and this isnt really a problem. Often you don't see another rider while out.
  18. Did 60km in the Baviaanskloof. Was pretty hectic. The middle section of the ride consisted of a 10km uphill. Once at the top we turned around and rode back down. You would have loved it. You should have seen the faces of the people in their 4x4's as we flew past. Mt Brother has changed his number since december. I will pm his new one to you.
  19. *drools* Man thats nice. Think I would give one of the boys for that.
  20. I dont think it is a bad bike but for that price I would consider looking second hand. You may need to be patient but something will come up. A few months back I bought a 6 month old GT Zaskar Expert which has a awesome lightweight frame, full LX groupset and Rock Shox Reba fork for only R6800. This bike will kill a brand new Giant Yukon in terms of ride quality.
  21. I love my Zaskar but sometimes I do wish I was riding a DS.
  22. Here we go: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/stuartfleming/stageracenew.jpg
  23. I honestly don't think it makes that much of a difference. We are talking about 0.15 inches here which equates to just under 4mm. Some brands differ by this much for the same size tyre. I have seen 1.95 tyres that are wider than 2.1 tyres from a different brand. The overall width will also vary depending on the width of the rim it is mounted on.
  24. Email the pic to me and I will upload it to my photobucket account. fleming.stuart(at)gmail(.)com
  25. What is that red monster in the background? Can we please have a pic of it?
