  1. I have to admit that I’m pretty sure I’d get bored on that route ????
  2. Will keep you posted. The Mrs. will surely be in a backup vehicle and I'm probably going to request some friends to do certain legs of the cycle and run alongside me. Aim of the game is to be as self-supportive as possible and as cheap as possible.
  3. This will definitely be far more epic. Not sure if I'll be able to do that route in a day. But I'll look at this as an option for the hell of it.
  4. Ja, I have to admit that the atmosphere will sorely be missed. That, and also an actual finish line with a timer will most probably be the two most difficult obstacles.
  5. Hi fellow hubbers, I've been playing with the idea of doing my own Ultra distance triathlon in 2019. Haven't done a full Ironman event and probably will not do one soon. Although I'm sure I'd love it, I can't get myself to put down that amount of money for one event. I'm pretty sure one gets value for money and that there is a reason why the prices are so high, but I'm still reluctant to pay such a big amount. To be a little different, I was thinking of rounding the numbers at: 4KM swim200KM cycle50KM runIt will most probably be a grueling day out and I'll have to work on logistics. Currently, the best venue close to me would be at Cradle moon in Gauteng. Looking at somewhere in April or May 2019. Anyone keen to join in such an event or maybe have some helpful tips? The video in the below link inspired me to do my own thing: https://www.triathlete.com/2018/10/lifestyle/can-triathlon-be-edgy_337157
  6. No, that was an Argon. Herewith the link: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/178105-cyclist-shot-at-cradle/page-5
  7. I’ve found that the beat way to get faster is by intervals and shorter distance time trials. A lot of 800m sprints, 2km and 4km TT’s and you should see an improvement quickly. I think a lot of people just go out and run x amount of k’s at a steady pace. Focus on running the short stuff instead of just jogging.
  8. He announced that he would miss Kona due to a stress fracture in his hip
  9. I've ridden a few hundred km's on conti cyclocross (mainly commuting) and they are pretty useless on anything other than grass. I can highly recommend Ritchey megabite 38C, which I rode with. I was super impressed with the tyre!
  10. I had a very enjoyable ride on my gravel bike (Cotic X) with 38C tyres. Had a slow puncher close to the end, but made it to Sun city without having to stop for a change. I expected to be much more banged up, especially in my hands, wrists, etc, but the body actually felt quite good. I only found the section along the railway to be really "gravel un-friendly", the sand and corrugated roads were all manageable at low speeds. I'll definitely be back on my gravel bike next year.
  11. I always check on steephill.tv and cyclingfans. Normally loads of links that work and some that don't. Just search on both pages for the various links. http://www.cyclingfans.com/ http://www.steephill.tv/
  12. A friend from the US is coming for the world champs and she’s looking to rent a TT bike. Anyone know a company that possibly does this kind of thing?
  13. I think the road bike industry has advanced significantly with offering more comfortable options. If you are a racing snake, there are ample options to choose from. If you are a weekend warrior that likes to be perched and comfy instead of low and slippery, there are ample options to choose from as well. There is literally something for every kind of rider these days.
  14. Yeah, so I agree with you both. Just want to point out that I wanted to drive to him immediately, but he was not available and hence we made an appointment for the next day. This was not my preference and that’s when I asked if it would be reserved for me, which he clearlt indicated rhat it will. I’ve actually found a forum om ethics, which is more where this belongs.
  15. Not sure if this is the correct forum I’m posting in, but could’t find one that I felt matched this specific event. Disappointed in Hubber Loreal123. He listed a bike which I was interested in. I contacted him and made an appointment to view the next day with the idea of purchasing. Phoned him the next morning to confirm the appointment and was bluntly told that I wasn’t first in line, after he specifially told me the previous day that he’s “giving me the first chance”. So much for honesty here. Anyway, please let me know if there is a thread that’s more applicable.
  16. Thanks so much! They had a sale on First ascent and Orca suits at Atterbury. Unfortunately I couldn't get the correct size. Managed to get a super nice and cheap TYR suit at Lynnwood Bridge.
  17. Hi fellow hubbers! Laste minute gear requirement. My wife needs a new Trisuit for Sunday. Can anyone recommend a store in the pretoria area? Thanks!
