  1. I am in with anything that will benefit the riders and help them move closer to operating in a system that will give them the support to get closer to achieving Olympic and Worlds medals. Will assist anytime with that... Austin2007-10-04 02:46:24
  2. It is sad that two of the most likeable and geniune ladies in cycling are targeted and abused essentially by a bunch of ego driven men. When the ladies work hard and perform, us men are quick to claim part and 'ownership' to this, but when the sh*t hits the fan we the ones stoning the girls. Cut the act, we no better than some of those countries with no right to woman. We just do not write it on paper...
  3. It is a pity you all have been caught as pawns( Sorry Cherry THEY have used you too now..) in a bigger game and am ashamed to be member of The Hub that can slate Erica like that. You have managed to get rid of one ofvthe only persons on any CSA commision that did her unpaid job and tried to better things for ladies cycling. Just some points: 1. Erica had written up an extensive plan to build the Ladies up for 2008 Olympics( not actually the real plan, but seeing that short sightedness is on the order of the day, that was included) and finally with 2012 as a Goal. 2. She was given choices to make based on budget available so to decide order of importance( Worlds 07- where no girl was in with a real medal shot or putting that money forward for a international racing campaign that would actually benefit much more towards the Olympics. One Worlds is not going to lift a TT time with 3 minutes, but ten International race exposures may just well do that) Even if these "rules" were not applied in the end, it was party to descisions leading up to the final selection. 3. One of the men piling on the pressure on Erica at that meeting( also a selector for another category and party to the bigger game) was the one responsable for leaving Hunter and maybe our best prospect, Darren Lill out of the Elite squad and only after huge effort they were included again. But he is not paying for this and shifted the focus very well.... There was a great REAL plan for ladies cycling that excluded the short sightedness of Worlds 07( maybe not communicated well so all understand) that would build up to Olympics without a commercial exploitation advantage to one or other party. This is now gone. I really hope the ones slating and hiding behind aliases will now step up to the plate and come up with something similar.... At least that great girl from the Cape went and stood in front of the crowd to be thrown with stones, even though not much of it is actually her doing....Robbie you are right: It is going to be another ten years from now again before anyone does what you did: Because of the way we as South Africans act...
  4. mmm, 705 with ANT and CinQo.... What a jol!!!!
  5. Look at the gap Nolan pulled from when he left his leadout man's(Jaco's) wheel. This was the bunch sprint! Brilliant youngster! Austin2007-08-27 15:07:49
  6. Let's view the recent change from SACF to CSA as that of Dictatorship to Democracy. If you view history with these happenings you will find a couple of things 1. Some confusion as this sudden freedom brings out much debate and little immediate answers. 2. The oppurtunist Capitalists that will step in and use the new insecure system to gain as much advantage as possible( eg East Block Tycoons) 3. Some old gaurd aspect that hold on to the "old regime" and way of things and somehow get thmeselves dug in to some place of descision making( not sure, but maybe this is the aspect faced in this topic of discussion) Some new democracies become farces and fall into new dictatorships with control from both the Old regime types dug into various backround roles as well as the Capitalists who have ridden the wave of oppertunity and make their buck. What to do? Any actions do not pay off as action must equal cause. Mass action in cycling equals= Rec riders. Dedicated action and involvement= Lic top level riders. Discussion on the Hub okay, but only after YOU have got involved, participated and ask the questions at the relevant places and then aiming to gather feeling or additional info from other sources( forum on The Hub). It is a shlep, I know, but the best way. a while back Andrew went to great trouble to mobilise a riders association which would have had a designated spot on all descision making meetings, etc. Not enough teams, managers and riders came to the party. So we let it slip and gave a way out for the Old regime types or any possible new Capitalists. CSA( Carinus, David and Lawrence) invited and gave us the chance, but we did nothing with it. And if you say you did not know about it, you answer your own question on level of your involvement.... I have been to many meetings and not many talking here are involved or tried to be involved in the Elite side of the sport, but many are vocal when the sh*t hits the fan. Are we all going to be part of the solution and help, Cherise, Yolandi, David,Bradley, etc before this happens, or run away and proctect our own little thing and then come out when we hate the next descision made and post ten pages full when it could be to late..... Successful Democracy = Participation in it ( and we South Africans hate that.....)
  7. Hanlie and James Perry will look after him over there. Corti also very fond of him, so I am sure he is in good hands..
  8. Operation went off well and they say there shouldnt be any complications. Speedy recovery, boytjie!
  9. There is also a rate of climb function on motionbased. You can use this to quite accurately determine your progress and fitness, even if on different courses. A higher rate of climb per race with a lower HR = fitter person. You can just deivde Avg HR of ride by Avg rate of climb. The higher this figure, the fitter you are getting on average.
  10. TT in Tour of Portugal. Misjudged a turn in bad conditions and went down.
  11. Guys, please think of JL as he is in hospital in Portugal with a broken hip....
  12. Power and HR are equally important as one measures the science and other teaches the rider to know his workings of his body better. Understanding when your body (HR) is not responding to its normal performance(Power) and how to adjust what you have to do according to this, is one of best things an athlete can master. We in cycling work with people and science- and people do not always respond to science. It is the understanding of the relationship between the two that counts the most..
  13. Hy gaan marathon toe verseker, maar weet nog nie oor xc nie. Jy, Jakob en die Swiss mannetjie se koppe bietjie mal() vir hierdie ex-ex mtb turned roadie/marathon man. Ons almal hou duim vas!

  16. Neotel: Most of the Exel team from the first part of the year. Next year adding more firepower and maybe some European riders. Will race in Europe for extended period as well.
  17. Conclusion: Due to thermal expansion, Italy (the whole boot, heel and toe) has risen by 1500m above sea level in the past couple of years, explaining the higher red blood count...

I also have to add my thanks to Carel. He came to the rescue plenty times while I was with Jaco in the front. Muchos Gracias! PS- You will have to lift the suspension on that Mini to see the race, hey! Or maybe that a secret plan to look under all the other cars...
  19. Will do. Have to go though some setup steps first. Will thn get into contact once we are going and see how we can work on this
  20. I am working on a possible solution and upgrade in conjuction with Garmin and Virtual Spectator. Hope to have it up and running by end of year. Also working so it can determine you Poweroutput while climbing, but a lot of work still to do there.
  21. Go onto Mationbased.com Their is heaps of info. You can actually see how your rate of climb per hour increases. This one of the closest indicators to power you can get!
  22. We got a couple of them and I use it with some of the training plans. Very simple thing for example: For a recovery test I have my riders do a rolling 1hr course at 65% heartrate. They then redo this course with the course fixture of the Edge and race against their previous best, staying at 65% HR. Whenever the loose against their old self, it means they not recovered and not ready for a new hard exercise. they can quickly see the old ride arrow either fall behind or move ahead of their current form. We also plotted a nearly exact replica of the SA's circuit in Bloem where we trained and got 1st, 2nd, 4rth and 6th in the U23 category.
