  1. P.s. I have to mow the lawn before going to pick up the frame. I made liver & onions with scrambled eggs for the missus for breakfast this morning, probably only the second time I have made breakfast this year. Must get wifey credits or I am a dead man. Spend a good couple of hours over the past few days with steel wool and Brasso restoring the wheels. Boy is it hard getting the glue off the rims after years of being caked on. Neither thinners or aceytone worked, they just softened the gunk. Not withstanding EPS, carbon fibre, etc. I believe the greatest technology invented since the bicycle's development must be stainless steel spokes. I decided to sand the metal spokes to get the rust removed and boy what a job! It was toss up as to whether I rebuilt the wheels but that is such a job if you don't have a truing stand.
  2. Very nice bike. Would love to see the colours in more detail. I would be interested in the MO frame if you want to break up the bike? P.S. I pick up my DHC track frame with Zeus dropouts later today after respray. Promise to post some pics before I commence rebuild.
  3. Beautiful bike Morpheus! Is it yours? I hope to start restoring a Nago Super with Campy Croce d'Aune groupset. Still have to decide to respray or not. The seat and down tube decals are beginning to peal back to the silver foil in a couple of places. Ideally, looking to acquire a Master frame for the groupset which is 100% original and in VGC.
  4. Sorry mate, I am happily married. Just trying to help. The Spruit gets such a bad rap, being riding the Spruit without problems since the 80's.
  5. Hi Bra B A lot of people park at the Cambridge Shopping Centre and then ride East along Witkoppen until the trail starts. You pick up the trail after you cross over the low water bridge. The Henley Management College is on your left as you head along the river towards Jhbg. Proceed under the freeway, look out for vagrants. Cross through the river on to the right hand side of the river and you will follow the path for a few miles. You can't really get lost. PM me and I will give you some alternative parking arrangement, etc. I live close by and can assist depending upon the time you plan to go riding.
  6. Heyyou Agree! Nice colouring with the blue art work. The lug work is excellent plus it has lovely drop outs. I spotted a nice Cinelli ridden by one of the gardeners in the area. It has lots of chrome on the back and chain stays. The fork is well raked and the bike must have been a quality tourer in its day. Trying to convince the owner to sell the bike or swap for a new supermarket MTB but he is not bitting at the moment. Sent the DHC track bike to be sprayed and have another day or two to chose the colour. Changed my mind a couple of times thus far.
  7. If you pass by Linden Cycles, pay a visit to the corner cafe. The spicy chips (can't recall the Portuguese name) are great value for some R18.00 for a tub.
  8. I visited "megastore"on Friday afternoon. Quiet with few customers. Looking to spend R2.5k on Wahoo Fitness products. Ask a sales guy for help as the product locked behind glass case. Told he was busy with another customer and would ask another sales attendant to assist. No problem and I wait for a couple of minutes. Another salesman walks by and original salesman asks him to help me. Chap takes a look at me and walks off. The has-been owner sees this and follows salesman chatting about display. Guess what, walked out and will never enter "megastore" again.
  9. Nice bike Moojie! Keep working on it and keep us posted.
  10. Heyyou Quick note to let you know that I purchased this C40 for the missus. Negotiated a good price and the bike is in VGC. Missus is very happy and completed a few km's so far. Riding the 94.7 this weekend. Thanks for the post as I would not have picked this up!
  11. Make sure that the retailer is using the entire group set. They have a habit of cutting corners by only using part of the group set by using cheaper parts for the balance. It is common to use lesser quality hubs on the wheels and sometimes the headset, brakes/levers. Compare the wheels (rims) and handlebar & stems. Groupsets can last years if well maintained. Keep the chain drive clean and fix any squeaks. Doing this regularly will ensure you notice something going wrong at an early stage. Getting the Scott locally would also be an advantage, ask what an upgrade to Ultegra would cost as it is expensive to do it later. Good luck!
  12. According to LBS's in Jhbg they have not been able to source Shimano brake hood replacements from the Shimano suppliers for a few years. I suspect there is very little demand for older group set parts for the LBS's to bother. Anyway, you will need to import them, check out eBay's UK site. There are normally lots of hoods for sale varying in price and location.
  13. You are correct, they are a bit low. Thanks
  14. Heyyou, Delgado, Quintonb and the gang This sounds like a great idea and it would be something I would be interested in doing. So much better if we were able to ride some quiet country roads somewhere with a good B&B stopover(s).
  15. Looking closely at the picture it appears the Colnago has been stuck on to the Delta's. Was the branding not engraved similar to some I have seen on eBay? I will see if I can find an example for you. Still, nice brake set. Can't wait to begin my next project with the Special.
  16. Off eBay. I will have them sent to a friend and then brought into the country in Dec. Still hard at looking for a Master which I hope to find before Dec too. Thanks for the comments on the Vitus, I will keep a look out for you.
  17. Sorry, here are some photos!
  18. Hi Guys Last weekend I finished assembling a Vitus 979. Paint work is original and in VGC except for a small scratch above the bottle cage. Main groupset is Shimano 600 including wheel hubs laced to Mavic open 4CD's. Brakes are grey anodised SLR calipers and levers. Need to import some new lever hoods! NOS SLR cables used throughout. Selle San Marco seat stem and Selle Italia Super Turbo seat. Bars and stem RF St Etienne. What do you think?
  19. The Super looks great, love the colour scheme. Visited a couple of LBS looking for brake lever hoods for the Shimano 600 rebuild I am completing. Nothing, one chap did not even know what I was talking about. Looks like I need to put together an import package again. Took delivery of a friends Colnago Crystal which I will service and then sell on his behalf. Will post some photos tomorrow. Bike has not been ridden for awhile so it is dusty. Very good condition with hardly any scratches to the paint work.
  20. A, they are paying you too much money! Nice bike, hope you have many safe and happy miles. See you at the 94.7?
  21. I agree, tan or brown leather bar tape would go well with the bike. Also, change the yellow seat for a brown leather on such as a Brooks. The yellow saddle will go with your new OLMO. You will also need to change tyres. Gator skins or any of the Continental brown walled tyres would complete the look.
  22. Heaven forbid if Tonsil had been wearing baggies!
  23. Strava!
  24. One day I will have to do a clean out but always keep "the bits" for later. Just found old 600 pedals with toe clips still in very nice condition but can't remember what I did with the original straps?
  25. Hi guys! What can I expect to pay for a Colnago Master frame? I would like to restore one and keep as I have a bunch of old 70's and 80's Campag group set pieces lying about. My present ride is a Dream Lux. Finishing a Vitus SS project at the moment and then have another Vitus with old Simano 600 group set to restore and sell first. Ideally looking for a 52 cm c-t frame with chrome fork.
