  1. Clicked on your link to help you, but those free items are usually just "share with more friends to collect more coins to get the free stuff" which gets progressively harder as was the case when I clicked that link. The only "free lunch" I got was a special 95% off on a torque wrench set when I first signed up (paid r75 which was a good deal). Have tried many of the games/promos with no success. But maybe others will "win".
  2. Ain't this the truth. If you make a low offer, and someone calls you a cheapskate, same thing applies, grow a thicker skin, don't go crying about it. If you keep making low offers and people are peeved off with you and block you, so what - they can't offer the deals you want, so you are both saving your time when they block you. However, continue to voice your opinions about how ridiculous so & so is and how stupid/amazing or whatever the lowballers are, I'm new to engaging more with this forum, but it's clear that the bikehub community thrives on the drama of strong opinions.
  3. I agree - no disrespect to low-ballers from me. I know I should expect more from bikehubbers, but when I get a lowball, I'm just glad it's not a "is this available" message. Also, whenever I see "I know what I got" or "no rush to sell" or "putting out feelers" (especially when the price tag is way above market) I immediately have the urge to low-ball with no intention of making a purchase. I don't do it, but I want to.
  4. When it comes to support local/lbs, why aren't more bike shops going to alibaba (business to busines version of temu, aliexpress etc with real wholesale prices)? I would obviously buy local if I could get the same products at competitive prices (and yes. If it's on the lbs shelf, I'll happily pay 30-40% more than the clicknpay options).
  5. An update, all my stuff arrived. See photos attached. Also bought a couple workshop related things. But the bike stuff is the interesting stuff. Tax was about 10-15% of the order. Shipping free. Cranks (170mm, including bb, protectors, bolts and narrow wide chainring): r788 Headsets (34-34 and 44-44): 187 & 203 Rotors: r87 each Seat shim: 73 Presta caps, crank protectors: r18 each Rotors bolts x12: r54 Oil slick disc brake Rotors: r818 Handlebar grips: r25 per pair Brake and shift cable housing: r125 per each 3meter length. Cassette thread to 6bolt Rotor adaptor: r34 Managed to get some coupons on all of the above by playing the right temu "games" and spinning the wheels etc. Saving about 15-30% on the prices above.
  6. Received these in the mail today. Hybrid cable/hydraulic calipers, "best of both worlds". And it came in the oil slick colour. Got a bunch of other stuff on the order too (all from temu), but I'll post some detail in the temu thread. Yet to be tested to see what the quality is actually like, but the fit and finish is better than I was expecting already.
  7. I've ordered quite a bit of stuff from them, mostly tools etc, but recently ordered some cranks and hybrid mech/hydraulic disc brakes, and other bicycle goodies. Good experience so far and will share some picks if I remember and see this thread again. Bicycles orders on the way (most of the stuff was under R80, except the crankset and brakes): -brake & gear cable (gold braided) -grips -discs -hydraulic/mech brakes -cranks + narrow wide chainring -headset (34-34 and 44-44) -seat tube shim -green disc rotor bolts & valve caps (because I'm a sucker) -free hub thread -> disc rotor converter
  8. I've ridden bikes with similar large dents on the top tube for years. Not recommended, but you'll be fine. Welding al wrecks the heat treating (which is expensive to re-do). If it is cracked, that's a more worrying structural issue, but doesn't look it. Sand off the paint, buy some body filler, fill the dent, sand it smooth, re-paint or touch up the spot. And tell the owner. A decent paint job and it'll look good as new.
  9. I'll take Jewbacca's comment one further and agree - prowheelbuilder is my favourite (probably because he introduced it to me)
  10. Nice - I've done it single speed last two years and it was fun - just be ready to walk up Suikerbossie should you need to (i needed to, but it really depends on your ratio I guess). You'll get a lot of comments on the way which is always fun.
  11. thanks! I can only recommend it, it's good fun. I've also got plenty extra tubing as everything was bought in minimum 6meter lengths (useful for future bikes, but I have enough to share if you're in CPT). 😀
  12. hahaha, the 3 seatpost bolts are a little overkill, but they definitely fit the look I guess. toe overlap is fine so far, I think if the front-centre was any shorter than it would definitely become a problem, I probably need to ride it more before I can say for sure that there's enough clearance though.
  13. very nice! the natural progression 😂 perhaps, but there don't seem to be many framebuilders out there at the moment. Yeah, have some photos from as I was building, will take a look later and see what I can find.
  14. pretty sure we all still suck pretty badly at bike polo. but I'm keen to try again (Donde might also know where all the clubs/sticks are?) I'm fairly confident it won't break, but maybe he'll find a way 😂
  15. hahaha, yeah, quite a few hours, especially with all the "adjustments" and error-correction. Had about a week of holiday when I started, and then 2 weeks of after work shenanigans figuring the last bits out. Getting all the "bits" sorted out was way more effort that I expected - definitely could've saved a fair amount of time on some fronts, but all good fun figuring it out of course.
