  1. Stolen: YT Industries YT Capra 2017 When: 28/11/2023Where: Mountainside, Cape Town, Western CapeStock standard. Has xt platform cleat pedals. front tyre is original maxxis and rear is a specialised ground control.Get further details about the incident in the Stolen Bikes section.
  2. My red and black YT Capra was stolen last night (28/11/2023) at around midnight. Bike was pretty much standard with original parts. In good condition with shimano xt cleat platform pedals. Both bikes were chained together.
  3. Very strange that no-one has mentioned Garmin's crash detection function. Its certainly a better option than waiting for someone to find you in the bushes and read your ICE info.
  4. There is. I've never made it past the pump track but just behind it is an xco style flat course. My advice would be to lock your suspension out and hit the pump track. Alternatively hire one of the jump bikes to hit the pump track and jump line on.
  5. Just had a similar issue with a novatec hub. Eventually found the ratchet ring that the pawls of the free body run in was cracked right through. It only clicked when free wheeling and about once per wheel rotation.
  6. Does anyone have any information on how to go about registering a charity for the 94.7 Cycle Challenge. How does the whole process work in terms of raising funds etc? I have a friend who runs a facility for orphaned kids and has a group of people who would be keen to support the cause through the 94.7.
  7. Fantastic event. Well marked and awesome trails.
  8. Brilliant event. Fantastic course. The weather couldn't have better, and a full moon to assist with the night ride. Thanks Wendell.
  9. Thanks for the advice. Just an update. I went with a stans/ ztr crest set. Saved about 300g per wheel (although 100g was on the 100ml less of stans). Looking forward to giving them a test run tomorrow morning. A rather expensive exercise once you cassette tires and disks to the mix.
  10. I'm looking for a set of 650B wheels to use as race wheels. Preferably under R10K. Any ideas or suggestions? Would like to get them before the weekend if possible.
  11. I broke both my collar bones in separate mx crashes with a leatte brace on. After the second time the bump on my "collar" prevented my from wearing one. The last break was either side of the brace. Coincidence? I think it's a little like the arguments aborting knee braces and femur breaks. I'm won't ride with a leatte again but won't ride a mx bike without knee braces. I suppose whatever gives you the best sense of security and confidence.
  12. This is not a unique problem. No need to reinvent the wheel. I think the Thaba trails work quite nicely. Maybe just copy that format and pricing for that matter. Although Thaba trails are priceless.
  13. I have a small plastic pipe about 2cm long that I cut off a breather hose for an off road bike petrol cap. If you are near a petrol station, it works like a bomb. Literally. Just slip the pipe over the valve and presto. You can now use the garage's compressor.
  14. My shock is about 4 months old. I have had the shock replaced by the Merida agents who were great about swapping it out after 2 months after it first leaked. Its just lost pressure again and had to have new seals fitted. This time it was done by Pro Bike who were fantastic and fitted them while I waited about 15 min and didn't charge a cent. Whilst I appreciate the great support behind the shock, I am also curious as to whether this is a common problem with the shock.
  15. I reckon the web site is pretty decent. Can't quite understand why you would have taken the trouble to post your comment. They are obviously not selling web sites. If they were, I would maybe understand your comments.
  16. The weight saving is about 400g's. I have a 36 on the front but its on a 650b. Not sure how that translates to a 29'r ratio. I started with a 32 but feel the 36 is better. Would love an extra gear on the casette. I think there's a good reason they designed it as a 1x11 and not 1x10.
  17. Many thanks to the full faced helmet gent that lent me his bomb nozzle. Can't believe how many people rode past without stopping. They obviously knew about the free beer.
  18. It's the first time I've ridden vg. Got lost with a bunch of guys near the beginning.first time was guilty of following blindly. Second time was on the downhill twin track. Missed the left. I'm even more pissed of now that there's talk of free Bavaria during and after. I turned off before the finish line in case my superior navigation skills robbed someone of a hard earned position. I ended on 46k's so think I got my money's worth as far as distance goes.
  19. I found the route marking sorely lacking. I got lost three times. Seems like i wasn't the only one. A couple of guys I chatted to enroute had the same problem.
  20. I'm not too familiar with the inner working of CSA but from what I have seen and read though, it sounds like CSA are very similiar to MSA (motorsportSA). If you do some research on the matter you can get the full story but just to summarise for those to busy. MSA took WOMZA (World of Motorsport ZA) to court because they alleged that WOMZA where not intitled to run any motorsport events unless the events were sanctioned by MSA. MSA alleged that they were given the right by the FIM (International Motor Federation). The south african courts are apparently not dictated to by the FIM. Cut a long saga short MSA lost the court case and all the associated legal fees. I get a serious sense of "de ja vu" every time I read comments like Gerald's. It will be interesting to see if the same thing happens in cycling.
  21. Not too phased by it. Not sure what could go wrong on it. Maybe I'll still find out. I did managed to go over the bars in one of the other rock gardens on a friend's hardtail 29r. Just hesitated a tad, that was enough. I do think confidence is going to be critical.
  22. Well done to the effort you guys have put in. My personal view on the XCO course is its perfect. I was down two weeks ago and didn't have the nut size to do the doubles properly. I went back this weekend to conquer the doubles and to be honest they are mentally intimidating but certainly not difficult. The first one is just as fast to manual as it is to jump. The Rock gardens are not too bad as long as you have a bit of momentum going. It is going to be interesting to tackle the course with another 50 or 60 riders at the same time. Does "track" apply to World cup events as well? I haven't seen the downhill course so can't comment. Really looking forward to race day.
  23. Does anyone know how many laps the races will be for the different age groups?
  24. A lot of substances are banned because of the masking effect on other stimulants or steroids. I don't really now too much about it, but if its on the banned list there must be a reason.
