  1. No wonder people think us cyclists are a bunch of rude, ungrateful jerks (used as a placeholder).. I don't know you Slowbee and have no axe to grind against you, but I find your posts so far on this matter so far, beyond belief.
  2. What an arrogant, intolerant response. Do you really believe that they have not done everything possible to make this as much of an experience as possible. This being our first CTCT, and coming from Jozi, we are hugely disappointed but having followed what has been happening with the fire, the commitment of the those fighting, the incredible spirit of Cape Tonians in supporting the firefighters, the decision is unfortunate but understandable. Maybe the safety of the riders and the ability of the firefighters to do their jobs to save the rest of the mountain actually trump your personal indignation.
  3. Just to add, you have to go to the USA for training to be a licenced RETUL fitter. So some skills can be inferred.
  4. The Bike Basement has a RETUL fitter I believe. Never used it but I understand RETUL is the most technologically advanced method. Personally, Kyalami race track is excellent for self bike setup. Repeatable laps allows you to find the right position. You have to understand what you are feeling back from your bike.
  5. I was going to say "The stuff legends are made of" but you are a Legend already.
  6. You wonderfully mad crazy person! Donation made. Ride safe.
  7. What circus clowns do on their day off? Madness. Awesomeness.
  8. Did it have the normal HR or premium HR strap? The pic shows the cheap strap but the Garmin site has the premium strap as part of the bundle.
  9. So if you choose UK when browsing, and put in an SA address for delivery, will they accept the order?
  10. I was doing some price comparisons on Garmin as I am keen on an Edge 500. Chain Reaction and Wiggle do not show any Garmin products if your delivery destination is RSA. They are all there if you choose UK delivery. Why would this be the case? Are the parent companies protecting the local distributors? Does this fall foul of anti competition laws? It really means that the local market can hold the customer to ransom on prices. I also was looking at some swimming paddles. GBP8.99 on CRC (not available to deliver to SA). R450 at Sportsmans Warehouse. VAT, Shipping and Import Duties (not clear on swimming equipment) should not multiply a foreign retail price by three to get to the SA retail price.
  11. If Std Bank IT do the timing, you might get a PB if the clock stops working for a bit in the middle.
  12. Bad news, Paul confirmed the bike route will remain the same as this year.
  13. Breaking news from the mouth of Paul Wolff. Assume to include both 70.3 and IMSA.
  14. Very good thing you have done Rich.
  15. Well done Garf. race info split time place Swim 01:16:04 1461 Trans 1 00:04:48 1702 Bike 06:09:24 1801 Trans 2 00:04:11 1190 Run 04:20:19 839 totals place (M/W) 1225 place (ag) 236 time total (brutto) 11:54:43
  16. Good luck Garf. Enjoy yourself.
  17. I am starting to find Tim Noakes theory credible based on a lot of anecdotal evidence and I can believe there is science to it. However, where I get stuck is on the cholesterol. How can you consume the things which are so high in cholesterol and have the level in your body drop? What is the science behind that? If there is an explanation, I would be keen to give this Banting a go.
  18. Mr Min works great. Don't do what I did with my deep sections. Then realised that had made the brake track so slippery! Fortunately before I went riding.
  19. New and old threads under the Multisport forum.
  20. I hope they get Germiston right after last years muck up with traffic on the roads. Was a really nice race other than having to keep stopping.
  21. Had a look at your website. You are clearly so much more than what I have seen offered elsewhere. I will be sending you a PM in the near future.
  22. There are more triathletes in Jozi. Perhaps you should move?
  23. I would like a coach : 1. Who will look at my ridiculous running and teach me how to run properly and ultimately quicker. 2. Who will analyse my cycling and help me get faster and more economical. 3. Who will watch me swim and help me become an efficient swimmer. 4. Who will make meaningful improvements to my nutrition 5. Who will make meaningful improvements to race day technique 6. Who will motivate and inspire my training and performance 7. Who lives in Johannesburg I do not want someone to give me a program that I can work out for myself or download off the internet. There is a free program in every Tri mag every month. Cut and Paste does not make you a coach. You cannot be a coach over the internet. Brett Sutton is a bit expensive and he lives in Mexico. Anyone else?
  24. Umm, that is a bit of oversell. Yes it is very efficiently organised but... Swim course sucks. Well it is a wade, not a swim. Cycle course is dangerous with vehicles on the course. Going down hills at 70kmh with mountain bikes wobbling up the hill with no separation is not fun. Run is quite nice. You sit around in the heat for hours waiting for your start. Your bottles are at coffee temperature by the time you get on your bike. The shirt and the medal are great. For a novice, it is a good race to start. But 'Ironman experience' is a stretch.
