Probably on par with this year's Giro, which is the hilliest in a while. The Vuelta stages are shorter, and the Pro Tour teams are invariably tired and lots of top hitters are building to Worlds at that time, so the smaller teams can cope with the strain of three weeks better.

I'm well aware. I just meant my post to say that you can't win by just covering the back plate only. Now, me, I usually (as in at the moment I have no plate on the bike, it got separated when I loaded it to take in to my shop to replace the clutch the other day, and I haven't had a new one made yet) only have a plate on the back, and the license disk is down by the foot-peg, so no worries there...

From an outsider's point of view, I'd suggest it does not translate into faces other than white ones getting a look in at the National team. I don't recognise a lot of names in the list you posted (and I may be completely off track - I didn't even know Charl Langevelt was non-white) but it seems it is ten years ago exactly since a non-white player stepped up from U19 to the Nat squad. I'd say so called transformation is going backwards. Maybe that's why the new push to get different colours into the domestic leagues?
