  1. Holy smokes that's nice.
  2. Found this. I'm sure many have seen it, but I thought I'd post it anyway: http://surlybikes.com/info_hole/spew/spew_single-speed_drivetrains They have some views on chains, cogs, ratios, etc.
  3. I know I've posted this before, but now it's complete with Dropper. I'm in love.
  4. You're right. What was I thinking blaming the bike. I struggle to keep up. What gearing do you run to keep up with the roadies? My 34 - 19 makes it impossible.
  5. Oh! Hectic. Sorry, I didn't realise. Hmm. That's a tough one.
  6. To your question. Bicycles are like children. You should treat them equally! My way of loving my bikes is to ride my single speed as often as possible, and let the dually rest and save on maintenance. Then every now and then, thrash it on the trails / race / stage race. I also ride it with the roadies sometimes because the SS just can't keep up.
  7. That's purdy.
  8. This is cute. Designed specially for commuting: http://reductivist.com/product/ringtool/ http://red55.reductivist.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/ScreenHunter_38-Jan.-14-15.10.jpg Features: -Bottle-cap opener -3mm Hexhead -4mm Hexhead -5mm Hexhead -6mm Hexhead -8mm Hexhead -Flathead Driver -Phillips Driver -Torxhead T25 Driver -Spoke wrench for 130” (3.30mm) nipples -Spoke wrench for .136” (3.45mm) nipples (nipples vary greatly between manufacturers so may not fit your setup perfectly)
  9. 2 little tricks that will seat ANY tyre with a floor pump. 1. Rub the beading on both sides with a bit of dishwashing soap on your fingers. Not too much! 2. Take the valve core out and seat the tyre, then replace. This step is usually not required for MOST tyres, but does help for those very difficult ones.
  10. Nice to meet you today. PM me if you want to join up tomorrow morning. I'll be riding in again.
  11. Yip. That's me. Love that bike. What you riding?
  12. I see a few guy commuting that way already... None my way unfortunately..
  13. Oh hectic.
  14. Which direction do you commute in? If you go Sandton to Midrand in the morning, then you're welcome to join me.
  15. Can't see in the picture. What's in the tyre?
  16. Yip. My commute bag includes a pair of mini needle nose pliers. Great little tool.
  17. It's going to be so awesome!
  18. Unless you really are a beast, I'd say 20 at the back. Edit: I'm assuming you're going to ride some of the knysna forests etc too in the area. Not much flat there....
  19. Any particular reason why 32 up front and not 34? Marginal clearance improvement. I had no particular reason for going with 34, so just curious.
  20. I set mine up 34x19. Very close. It's a nice ratio.
  21. Haha. Well spotted. It was the bike shop, but I was there for as much of the build as possible. Once you've experienced how much love Frikkie, Andre and the rest of the Tool-up team has for their work, it's very hard not to have them do it for you.
  22. Just put the cage on, and it's 100%. I had a little panic attack.
  23. Thanks Mnr. Haven't put the cage on yet... I'll let you know.
  24. Finally. Still some tweaking (stem, dropper post, 2.4 ardents stuck in the post office) but she's rideable! I'm so excited. The idea here was single speed trail bike. I'm over the moon with the result. Once the dropper and fatter tyres are on, she'll be exactly as I wanted!
  25. Finally. Still some tweaking (stem, dropper post, 2.4 ardents stuck in the post office) but she's rideable! I'm so excited!
