  1. I only eat on the bike if I feel hungry.... Which happens on the longer rides.
  2. I was definitely warmer this morning. Might lose the Base layer tomorrow...
  3. I don't think it's a case of advantages... I believe it's more about preference. I prefer my 1x10 setup because I couldn't learn to be in the right gear on 2x10 and kept being caught out by sudden steep climbs. I also used to get a lot of chain suck. In 1x10, It's really easy for me to find the right gear really fast, and zero chain suck. I also find it really nice and quiet. Some prefer the ability to quickly dump or gain gears using the Front Derailleur... I just couldn't get the hang of it.
  4. Get them to Send his story to noakes.... He could use more case studies I'm sure...
  5. Yip. +1 here for faulty strap....
  6. Nice ride this morning. Thanks gents!
  7. I'm still very new to this, but Hang in there! It took me about 4 weeks of very strict eating. Last week Saturday I thought I was going to die. Yesterday I went for a 90km ride, and I've never felt better on the bike. It's so hard to describe the feeling of almost unlimited endurance. I was pretty fit already, but this was different. Take some emergency bananas and plenty of water. I found when I got into trouble, a banana would help after about 10 mins.
  8. I might join you too on Tuesday, and then head to work for my commute.
  9. Yip. Commuting. And that's why I think I should eat more.... It's a huge amount of physical activity. Perhaps an excuse for a carb or two.
  10. Great post this. I'm the same. I don't want to lose weight, but I'm looking for health and better energy management through this kind of eating. My problem is that I keep losing... I'm also hungry quite often, so I've realised I probably need to eat more. My meals are certainly higher percentage of fat compared to anything else, but I suppose I need to eat larger portions or higher percentage fat....
  11. Man, bread is like heroine! I ordered a cheese omelette for lunch, asked for now break. They deliver it with 2 slices of delicious buttermilk rye! It took everything I had not to eat them.
  12. Give SS a try on your MTB. Put it in one gear and ride all the way. No cheating. Then you'll know. And then enjoy your new built project.
  13. Stats from the launch event: 125 km 2100 m Day 2 94 km 1730 m Day 3 65 km 1950 m Day 4 70 km 1420 m
  14. Ok, including the fatshake? Or do you mean post fat shake I shouldn't need to eat any more on the ride? I'm trying to limit any further weight loss.... I've lost 20kg (now 90kg at 1.98m tall) already.
  15. Hi there, I thought I'd share my experience, and possibly mistake from Saturday morning. We planned for a 100km ride over breedts.... I was really excited. I'm about 2 weeks in to very strict low carb, and high fat. On Saturday morning, I had a fat shake from breakfast, and nothing else. I packed some emergency food (Droewors, salami sticks, bananas, macadamias, dried cranberries, even a bottle of 32GI). Oh boy. At 45km I had a wave of nausea and dizziness and the feeling of impending bad stomach. I had to stop and get off the bike. I hadn't felt different before then, and had been mainly drinking water, with a few sticks of Salami until then. I ate the banana which made me feel better, and then we continued cycling. Afterwards, I started to take sips of 32GI because I was feeling very flat. I'm pretty sure this was a little bit of bonk surfing.. Anyway, turns out I forgot to add salt to the fat shake. Could this have had a negative impact? I seemed to get a big second wind after about 70km, and finished strongly. Maybe too much fat for me in the morning so early on? Either way, I have persevered and am riding daily on water only. Not really feeling any reduction in power for now, and in fact beating many of my previous bests for training rides. I think I'll still keep taking carbs on the bike for big rides and races, but I suppose how much I actually eat is to be seen.
  16. Thursday also out for me. If we can arrange for Tuesdays, I can possibly get one more person to join us. Pinging durbanjacques....
  17. Thanks for this. Any route maps? Do they meet every day?
  18. Here is a route I do quite a lot. Mix of road and off road: http://www.strava.com/activities/150635440 It can also be made shorter or longer quite easily.
  19. I know a few mtb routes in the area. Can do Tuesdays... Thursdays are for hills in northcliff. ????

Anybody know where I can find ardent 29ers in 2.4? I would like to run full ardent. 2.25 back and 2.4 front.
  21. There comes a time when you have to admit you were wrong.... Shmoove over dusty breedts was terrible. Thank goodness I took some extra white lightning.
